Covid-19

I'm starting this thread as a side discussion of all things Corona Virus related. I understand that this is going to be discussed in almost all other topic threads but we could collect news and other items here.

At work, many conferences have been cancelled.

NBA - Suspended.

NHL - About to be suspended.

NCAA March Madness - Playing - no crowd.

Political Rallies have been cancelled.

Travel bans.

Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks tested positive. They're in Australia where testing is available. If they were in the US, they wouldn't have been tested.

My source (who is a teacher) has not heard of this yet.   All of the teachers are heavily in favour of doing so though.

I'm not talking about teachers. Teaches don't make decisions.

I'm hearing schools in Winnipeg will be moving to remote this week. I guess this would mean remote schooling on Monday.

This will be the recommendation and we'll see what the province does with it.

Crap. Hope that doesn’t happen. Schools are not the problem.

Nope, but it gets the most attention. Winnipeg only, for what that's worth.

I guess it’s the best away to ‘make it look like’ something is being done.

Sadly I can see this government doing that. Most divisions in Winnipeg are scrambling to get to Orange Level with spacing etc and then you're going to announce this? Totally fits these asshats.

I'm not a Kinew fan by any stretch of the imagination; in fact, I can't stand him.

However, it's good to see him call out Friesen for the donkey that he is.

Well, the good news is my son's result came back early, and negative. Only took about 36 hours. I wonder if the backlog is clearing up.

The bad news is my lie about it being "just like a Q-Tip" has been exposed, so getting him tested again if he ever needs it will be a struggle.

Public health officials advise two additional deaths due to COVID-19 have been reported today, including:

  • a female in her 80s from the Winnipeg health region and linked to the outbreak at Maples personal care home; and
  • A female in her 90s from the Winnipeg health region and linked to the outbreak at St. Boniface hospital.

The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 8.5 per cent and 374 new cases of the virus have been identified as of 9:30 a.m. and brings the total lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba to 6,751.

The test positivity rate in Winnipeg is 9 per cent. Officials advise this number does not reflect the situation in other parts of the province, as cases continue to be identified outside Winnipeg.

Today’s data shows:

  • 12 cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region;
  • 14 cases in the Northern health region;
  • five cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region;
  • 67cases in the Southern Health-Santé Sud health region; and
  • 276 cases in the Winnipeg health region.

The data also shows:

  • 3,772 active cases and 2,892 individuals who have recovered from COVID-19;
  • there are 140 people in hospital and 21 people in intensive care; and
  • the number of deaths due to COVID-19 is 87.

Laboratory testing numbers show 3,163 tests were completed yesterday, bringing the total number of lab tests completed since early February to 268,504. Case investigations continue and if a public health risk is identified, the public will be notified.

Finnish fur auctioneer Magnus Ljung, CEO of Saga Furs, was watching the Danish announcement. “It’s a shock. They will kill all mink in Denmark. They are talking about the risk of Covid-19 mutating in the mink, and going from mink to humans, and potentially affecting a future human vaccine.”

A friend's mom was in the Maples nursing home and family was told this afternoon that she has been taken ill with COVID and is not expected to survive.  Soon, there will be many families touched by this plague. Pallister started off well in handling this, but the scope of the crisis has overwhelemed his and Freisen's abilities to cope. Their response so far is to attack concerned physicians- a bad move.

Anyone wondering when the border will open, Canada as a whole is setting record numbers for cases but the States is hitting 100k plus cases a day now with not plan atm and no will to get a handle on the problem.
