Canadian Politics

I didn't think we had a thread for this.

Is Trudeau this out of touch or does he just not care?

Canada’s most decorated Indigenous war veteran, Sgt. Tommy Prince, deserves to be the face of the new $5 bill, say Manitoba’s Conservative MPs.

Prince’s life exemplifies both incredible sacrifice and bravery and the persistent racism faced by Indigenous people in Canada, said Sen. Donald Plett and eight MPs, including Conservative House leader Candice Bergen and National Defence critic James Bezan, in a letter sent to the Minister of Finance last week.

Prince earned 11 medals in the Second World War and the Korean War, and was one of three Canadians to receive both the American Silver Star and the Military Medal, presented by King George VI at Buckingham Palace in 1945.

However, when Prince returned to his home province of Manitoba, he endured discrimination, poverty and illness and died while living in a Winnipeg shelter at the age of 62.

Gov. Gen. Julie Payette has created a toxic environment at Rideau Hall by verbally harassing employees to the point where some have been reduced to tears or have left the office altogether, sources tell CBC News.

Four members of Payette's communications team have departed during the pandemic period alone. A fifth person is leaving this week and another two have taken leaves of absence. It's just the latest wave of staff to quietly transfer out of the small office in response to mistreatment during Payette's mandate, multiple sources said.

"This has gone from being one of the most collegial and enjoyable work environments for many of the staff to being a house of horrors," said one government source. "It's bullying and harassment at its worst."

Good article on Trudeau

Especially this part

"While it may be too early to pen Trudeau's political obituary — the opposition Conservative Party is in the midst of a leadership race and none of the candidates exude star power "

He's going to survive this as the Cons still don't have the leader they need to oust him.

The Cons have a larger problem- their unwillingness to expel members who openly voice racist comments. McKay is the only leadership candidate who has any credibility and he is as dynamic as a glass of warm milk.

Yikes what does this say about the liberals then? Or does someone just need to apologize and everything is all ok?

Voters may see Trudeau as the lesser of two evils.

Lol yes peter McKay is so evil! He’s the equivalent to trump! But let’s ignore the racist actions from Trudeau, the ethics codes that he broke, The WE corruption scandal.

If they were 2nd in the polls they'd probably boot him out but they're not 2nd in the polls.

Marneau is out as a possibility. Chrystia Freeland probably walk away with it.

Not fishy at all that he forgot to pay this back for three years and then paid it back the day he speaks to the ethics committee. I guess when you forget that you own a villa in France its easy to forget $41,000.

Sadly, this is what happens all too often when a ruling party sees that there is no real opposition. Mark Twain said that governments, like babies, ought to changed often, and for the same reasons.

The Governor-General is the Queen's representative and would have to be fired by the Queen, not the PM.

Freeland to be the new Finance Minister. Probably the best cabinet minister available. She should be good. She's been good in her files.

But, with JT leading, nothing will change. I would happily take Freeland as PM.

There better not be an election this fall.

I just find the difference between the US and Canada amusing. In Canada we have a leader who apologies to the country and down south we see a guy who’d prefer to call his fellow citizens anarchists and low lives etc. and has complete disdain for those ’beneath’ him.

Oh Canada

Hey a Trudeau's facade of caring about the average Canadian taxpayer is better than no facade at all... right?

A Liberal PM from the West (MB, SK, AB)? Underground indeed. Goodale probably had the best chance of anyone in the past twenty years. Axworthy before that (but that was pretty slim).

Maybe someone from BC?

I have not heard an update on Carr's health? How has he been doing?
