US Politics

Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Do respect this one though:

Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna take the salary, the president’s salary?

Donald Trump: Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. But it’s a -- I don’t even know what it is.

Donald Trump: Do you know what the salary is?

Lesley Stahl: $400,000 you’re giving up.

Donald Trump: No, I’m not gonna take the salary. I’m not taking it.

Arson, Burglary, Death Threats: Abortion Clinics See Uptick In Violence Post-Roe

Many categories of violence and threats more than doubled since last summer, particularly in states where abortion rights remain protected.

Violence against abortion providers and clinics skyrocketed following the Supreme Court’s decision to repeal Roe v. Wade last year, according to a new study.

The National Abortion Federation released its annual report on violence and disruption against abortion providers on Thursday morning, and the numbers are striking. NAF found that all forms of violence ― including arson, burglary, death threats, stalking, invasions and bomb threats ― has increased significantly since 2021.

From 2021 to 2022, around the country, burglary increased by 231%, stalking of clinic staff and patients increased by 229%, arson increased by 100%, and invasions of clinics increased by 25%.

Several states enacted near-total abortion bans immediately after the Supreme Court’s decision, which forced many abortion clinics to shut down in red states. Anti-abortion extremists then shifted their attention to states that continue to protect abortion care, leading to a disproportionate increase in violence and threats of violence in areas.

“The threat of violence against abortion providers unfortunately remains on the rise despite dozens of clinic closures across the nation,” Michelle Davidson, security director at NAF, said during a Wednesday press call. “The 2022 violence and disruption statistics indicate that anti-abortion extremists were emboldened by the SCOTUS decision and state level wins.”

In states where abortion is protected, stalking increased by 913% (from eight cases in 2021 to 81 in 2022), bomb threats increased by 133% (from three in 2021 to seven in 2022) and burglaries increased by 100% (five in 2021 to 10 in 2022). The National Abortion Federation defined these states using Guttmacher Institute’s analysis of abortion care in the U.S., including states that fall into the categories of “most protective,” “very protective,” “protective” and “some restrictions/protections.

The irony of this fake 'life is precious' they spew. Threatening to kill human beings.

These same knuckle draggers who advocate for forced birth but after that you're on your own are the same ones who talk about individual rights and freedoms. Mind boggling, exhausting, frustrating.

For sure Carl Sagan, the dumbing down of human beings is in full view right now. We are as good as our lowest common denominator.

How about a state governor bragging that he 2 year old grandchild already has two firearms?

Interesting take here on the trump town hall on cnn...

I had no idea that CNN was bought last year and now have a right-wing bend.

Aside from views, this seems to be another reason.

Trump wasn't the rating winner CNN hoped he would be, and Anderson Cooper saying you have to hear both sides was incredibly weak and towing the party line. You put a disgraced loser on prime time with a bunch of idiots hooting a hollering for one reason alone because CNN has been buried in the ratings for so long you are grasping for anything even the guy who called you fake news over and over and over. Sad

What I would have preferred is Trump being interviewed by one journalist in an isolated setting.  Mehdi Hassan would not have let Trump get away with his BS.  That “town hall” environment played perfectly into Trumps hands.  However, I don’t think he attracted any new voters.  He was just appealing to his base.

And generating gobs and gobs of money for CNN while he was at it.

It was just a business transaction.

Apparently not the ratings boon CNN was hoping for.  Probably still got lots of ad revenue, though.

DeSantis’ new law: Doctors can’t deny treatment for unvaccinated patients but can refuse LGBTQ ones

In Republican Governor Ron DeSantis‘ “Free State of Florida,” as of July 1 it will be illegal for physicians and other medical professionals to refuse to treat unvaccinated patients. It will be illegal to mandate vaccines. It will be illegal to mandate the wearing of masks. It will be illegal to require a “vaccine passport.”

But, also in Ron DeSantis’ “Free State of Florida,” it will be legal for a physician or other medical professional to refuse to treat a patient who is LGBTQ for a “specific health care service” if it violates their “conscience.” And legal for insurance companies to refuse to cover patients who are LGBTQ for a “specific health care service” again, if it violates their “conscience.”

James Comer mocked after claiming informant his “entire charade was built on” is “missing”

House Oversight Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., claimed on Sunday that the panel cannot track down a key informant in the Republicans' probe into the Biden family's business dealings.  Republicans have repeatedly pushed corruption allegations against the Bidens that have frustrated even Fox News hosts. "You don't have any facts," host Steve Doocy told Comer last week.

Fox News host Maria Bartiromo pressed Comer on the evidence on Sunday.

"You also spoke with an informant who gave you all of this information," she said. "Where is that informant today? Where are these whistleblowers?"

"Well, unfortunately, we can't track down the informant," Comer replied. "We're hopeful that the informant is still there. The whistleblower knows the informant. The whistleblower is very credible."

"You don't have any facts": Fox News host calls out James Comer's flailing Biden probe
Comer added that "no president has ever been accused of the things that the Biden family's been accused of."

"Hold on a second, Congressman. Did you just say that the whistleblower or the informant is now missing?" Bartiromo interjected.

"Well, we're hopeful that we can find the informant," Comer said. "Remember, these informants are kind of in the spy business, so they don't make a habit of being seen a lot or being high profile or anything like that."

Comer added that nine of the 10 informants "that we've identified that have very good knowledge with respect to the Bidens, they're one of three things. They're either currently in court, they're currently in jail, or they're currently missing."

Back in the day when sanity prevailed making false allegations was met with immediate consequences.

Not so much nowadays. It's a free for all that results in legitimate claims getting mixed in and blurred with ones like the above.

Embarrassing.

So all women should be afforded the choice of accidentally receiving an abortion as well.

Giuliani said he was 'selling pardons for $2 million, which he and Trump would split': ex-associate complaint

Noelle Dunphy, a former associate of Rudy Giuliani, is suing the onetime Donald Trump attorney over a litany of misconduct, including sexual assault, harassment and wage theft, ABC News reports. Dunphy joined Giuliani’s team in 2019 as his director of business development.

In a 70-page complaint filed with the New York Supreme Court, Dunphy recalls “alcohol-drenched rants that included sexist, racist, and antisemitic remarks, which made the work environment unbearable,” and noted many of the former New York City mayor’s diatribes were recorded.

The complaint alleges that in Feburary 2019, “Giuliani forced Ms. Dunphy to have sexual intercourse with him for the first time” after she “had refused and avoided having sex with Giuliani.”

The former associate also claims Giuliani asked her “if she knew anyone in need of a pardon,” because he and Trump were “selling pardons for $2 million.”

Per page 25 of the complaint:

He also asked Ms. Dunphy if she knew anyone in need of a pardon, telling her that he was selling pardons for $2 million, which he and President Trump would split. He told Ms. Dunphy that she could refer individuals seeking pardons to him, so long as they did not go through “the normal channels” of the Office of the Pardon Attorney, because correspondence going to that office would be subject to disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act.

According to Dunphy’s lawsuit, Giuliani declined to register his communications with Ukrainian government officials under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). When pressed by Dunphy on the matter, “Giuliani told her that he was able to break the laws because, he said: ‘I have immunity,’” the complaint claims.

The lawsuit seeks $10 million in damages.

Marjorie Taylor Greene: House Republicans 'plan to punish' FBI and DOJ

United States Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) told right-wing Real America's Voice host Steve Bannon on Monday that Republicans in Congress plan to "punish" the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Justice for supposedly covering up corruption committed by President Joe Biden and his son Hunter.

Burchett "confirmed GOP officials still could not 'track down' the key witness as of Monday morning, telling FOX Business' Maria Bartiromo that the federal agencies such as the FBI and DOJ have 'turned a blind eye' to both the missing informant and the Biden family's alleged corruption," Fox News reported on Monday.
"The telling thing about this is that our Federal Bureau of Investigation and our Justice Department have basically just turned a blind eye to all of this and now it's come down to the point where speaker McCarthy has to have a one-on-one meeting with Director Wray over the way that they've handled this and bungled this thing from the start," Burchett said on Mornings with Maria. "They went after George Santos and, as I said, he's relatively small potatoes, yet, when you have over ten million reasons to look at this White House and is going on – corruption and influence peddling – they even have a report that they issued apparently, but they are not very forthcoming with it as well."
