US Politics

Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Do respect this one though:

Quote

Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna take the salary, the president’s salary?

Donald Trump: Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. But it’s a -- I don’t even know what it is.

Donald Trump: Do you know what the salary is?

Lesley Stahl: $400,000 you’re giving up.

Donald Trump: No, I’m not gonna take the salary. I’m not taking it.

Might be more important for the Democrats to capture the Senate, if they don't beat Trump, it's the only way they will be able to keep him and his hitmen in check

Some figures....

There are 35 seats up for re-election in 2020. Currently, they are split 12 for Democrats and 23 for Republicans. To gain control of the Senate, the Democrats will need to win 17 of the 35 up, taking 5 from the Republicans. This would give them a 51-49 majority. In case of a tie in a vote, the VP casts the deciding vote.

There are currently four seats that are considered a toss-up in this election, in Maine, North Carolina, Arizona and Colorado. 1 is a Democrat seat and 3 are Republican.

There are an additional 4 Republican seats that are leaning Republican but are not safe and 1 Democrat seat that's leaning Democrat but isn't safe.

It won't be easy to flip the Senate but now's the time.

If Dems can hold all of their seats, then they only need to flip 5 of the 23 Republican seats. Surprising that Kentucky is not considered a toss-up, given that McConnell has a 29% approval rating in his state right now. Would like to think that there are more unsafe Republican seats in the senate after the impeachment cover-up, but of course voters have short memories. It would be glorious to control 2/3 of the Senate and then go after Trump in impeachment again if he is re-elected.

Yes, he's unpopular but it's Kentucky. They'll hold their nose and vote GOP, like many did with Trump.

They don't like him but he's no Democrat!

It would be better if they could control all three levels of Government. I would like to believe that they would be able to reverse a lot of the horrible things Trump has done for the economy (tax cuts that do nothing but put money in the uber-rich's pockets), cuts to health care, the attacks on the public education system, and the cuts to entitlements. Of course, they'll just fight among themselves and get little done.

The economy is already slowing down and the gains that happened during the Obama administration will be reversed very soon. They'll be digging themselves out of the Trump hole for decades. Of course, he's fleeced them good. Saved his companies, for sure.

This is an administration that separated kids from ther parents and threw them into cages...  this is no surprise.

Well, that works....

Given that Trump visited Trump properties, on 117 days in 2019.

That is some solid leadership right there. Good on her... Not based on this alone, but from her whole campaing and her lifetime record, I feel she would make a great POTUS.

Warren said in an interview what caused it wasn't anything she did but was a symptom of institutional racism that pervades everything everywhere.

Nothing attracts voters like a politician who lied about her ethnicity to advance her career... " I'm not racist. But you probably are".

No wonder she's tanking.

Good thing that's not what she's running on.

Can you link me to the interview where she says that...

Also, just curious who you support as you have only shat upon everyone and never said anything positive about any of these politicos.

MSNBC

Warren peaked in the summer. Only thing keeping campaign alive was media hoping she was Hillary 2. But even they have moved on to CIA Pete. Stick a fork in her campaign.

He supports this fraud.

Secret Service has paid rates as high as $650 a night for rooms at Trump’s properties

Feb. 7, 2020 at 7:00 a.m. CST

President Trump’s company charges the Secret Service for the rooms agents use while protecting him at his luxury properties — billing U.S. taxpayers at rates as high as $650 per night, according to federal records and people who have seen receipts.

Those charges, compiled here for the first time, show that Trump has an unprecedented — and largely hidden — business relationship with his own government. When Trump visits his clubs in Palm Beach, Fla., and Bedminster, N.J., the service needs space to post guards and store equipment.

Trump’s company says it charges only minimal fees. But Secret Service records do not show that.

At Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club, the Secret Service was charged the $650 rate dozens of times in 2017, and a different rate, $396.15, dozens more times in 2018, according to documents from Trump’s visits.

And at the Trump National Golf Club Bedminster, the Secret Service was charged $17,000 a month to use a three-bedroom cottage on the property, an unusually high rent for homes in that area, according to receipts from 2017. Trump’s company billed the government even for days when Trump wasn’t there.

These payments appear to contradict the Trump Organization’s own statements about what it charges members of his government entourage. “If my father travels, they stay at our properties for free — meaning, like, cost for housekeeping,” Trump’s son Eric said in a Yahoo Finance interview last year.

The full extent of the Secret Service’s payments to Trump’s company is not known. The Secret Service has not listed them in public databases of federal spending, as is usually required for payments over $10,000.

Man, whats next ? The President renting out the Lincoln Bedroom for campaign funds?

I think Zontar has me blocked so it might be worth someone's trouble to ask them if they've got an update on all that voter fraud.

Trump lied, and so does anyone citing this imaginary voter fraud.

If you support a liar, you are a liar.

What fraud ? in the Iowa caucus ? Still havnt got to the bottom of it.

Way back in 2019, you asserted that Republicans needed to counter the "districts that have been purposely flooded with illegal immigrants and allowing them to vote despite lack of citizenship?"

This claim is entirely unsupported by evidence, including the evidence gathered by the Trump administration itself.

So, do you still believe that there's an army of illegal voters in the USA that is swinging elections?

If so, where's the evidence for that?

If not, what changed your mind?

Thing is this is peak Bernie. Those that are behind Mayor Pete and Biden won't go to him. He'll get lots of delegates but everyone will coalesce under the "other" candidate.

If they're stupid enough not to they will probably lose. People are tired of the same old politicians like Biden. They want someone to shake up the establishment. It's why trump won. You can do the same with Bernie. He's good at engaging people and getting people on his side, and the biggest plus to him is that his no nonsense style is the perfect counterpoint to trump's bullshitting.

But he's anti establishment democrat and they will likely kill themselves before fully supporting him.
