US Politics

Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Do respect this one though:

Quote

Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna take the salary, the president’s salary?

Donald Trump: Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. But it’s a -- I don’t even know what it is.

Donald Trump: Do you know what the salary is?

Lesley Stahl: $400,000 you’re giving up.

Donald Trump: No, I’m not gonna take the salary. I’m not taking it.

Funny thing is.,... that I have leaned towards conservatives politically, most of my life.....but on Breitbart, I was considered as simply another snowflake libtard.

That said, watching this current edition of the Republican Party, is making me more liberal, by the day.

This is why trump is so happy to say he’s like the report released. Because he has scum bags like this guy to hide behind.

If you're a republican, you can wear a diaper, screw a hooker down in Brazil,  while supposedly happily married, and you're still  good. Just need to say a few prayers.

The only thing that they can't tolerate, is being gay.

that'll get you kicked right out. Like the "wide stance in the washroom cubicle guy" ..... he's gone.

Which creates the scenario that if you're a respected senator and you're gay and everyone knows but the public and you deny it and your personal emails are hacked, you suddenly become Russia's best friend and official water-carrier of Trump.  Or something...

Totally compromised.  No other explanation.  But apparently his support levels are pretty bad in his home riding so he's likely grasping at whatever he can.

Isnt the Senate suppose to work for the people and not the President?

No no no, you see the senate works for the rich donors. Silly poster thinking the United States government gave 2 shits about the people.

Its one of the reasons that I, as a good and true conservative, hopes the Dems wins complete and utter control of both sides of Congress.  Not because I believe in all the liberal ideas but because they have to get back to doing whats best for the people.  There is room within that context for conservative ideas.  the GOP party is so lost.

I am the same. I identify as a conservative, but we really desperately need to check the power of large corporations and the rich. If not then all us lowly plebs are truly ******.

I agree that the GOP is lost, agree that they have to get back to doing what is best for the people, not sure the Dems are significantly better (see Green New Deal).

I look at the Green Deal this way.  If either party suggested a 5 on a 1-10 scale, the other party would say "well...thats crazy, totally undoable, absurd.  Fine, we'll compromise and maybe...maybe we can do a 7 or 8".   If they start with a 2 the compromise ends up being a 5 or 6.  Things change when proposals start becoming reality.

The US has some serious serious issues and they have to deal with them.  Universal health care is no longer a crazy idea.  I remember it being Hilary's pet project during Bill's first term.  Thats a long time ago.  Even Bernie, when he was squaking about this, he was seen as the crazy socialist and it was not politically expedient for other Dems to embrace that idea.  Now they do.  its long over-due.

And when people say "how do you pay for it", look the US spends absurd money on all manner of things.  Its not that hard to find the money.  And the fact is, the super rich should be taxed more.  The idea they will all leave...come on...they wont.  Because they're still going to be super wealthy.  They have to close that gap between the richest and poorest.  A lot of the GOP mis-represent AOC's plan because they are afraid of her and it...because it makes sense to average Americans.

Is there a real concern it could chase the wealthy away?  Okay, if so, you deal with it.  You discuss.  You compromise. You make changes to make it work.  But the idea that its either tax the rich to death or not at all is idiotic.  Once both sides accept that certain things have to happen, its just a matter of working together to make them work.  That really goes for anything.

It seems you have two sides, where one side has plans for progressive social programs and the other flat out lies about reality to scare voters or discredit the Dems.  That doesnt mean the Dems' plans are perfect.  It means only one side is talking.  GOP has to come to the table and remember their duty to the average American.

And then there's this mouth-breather...

"iT's FaKe NeWs!"

Shocker he's from the rectangle province.

And we'd be truly ****** without them too. The system may not be perfect but it's the best one we've got.

The budget will balance itself, after we tax the **** out of the middle class like they always do. It's always the middle class that has to pay for it, never the rich elites who just come up with the schemes to sucker people in, it's why they are rich.

As long as any system is not totally autocratic.....it is the people administering it that makes the difference, good or bad.

By the time the Mueller report is released to the public it will be edited and redacted so much that there wont be much to it, I wouldn't  be surprised if it isn't leaked before Barr releases it in weeks to come.

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos on Tuesday defended deep cuts to programs meant to help students and others, including eliminating $18 million to support Special Olympics, while urging Congress to spend millions more on charter schools

It wont pass the house but even proposing this... Just shows how heartless the RepubliCONS truly are. Just a bunch of rich assholes looking out for themselves. I put a laugh emoji cuz all i can do is laugh at the ignorance and stupidity.

Why isn't this a big deal?

What weapons do they have?

Trump goes silent.

Two Russian air force planes landed at Venezuela's main airport on Saturday carrying a Russian defense official and nearly 100 troops, according to media reports, amid strengthening ties between Caracas and Moscow.

A flight-tracking website showed that two planes left from a Russian military airport bound for Caracas on Friday, and another flight-tracking site showed that one plane left Caracas on Sunday.

Reporter Javier Mayorca wrote on Twitter on Saturday that the first plane carried Vasily Tonkoshkurov, chief of staff of the ground forces, adding the second was a cargo plane carrying 35 tonnes of material.

In December, two Russian strategic bomber aircraft capable of carrying nuclear weapons landed in Venezuela in a show of support for Maduro's socialist government that infuriated Washington.

Deutsche Bank has begun to cooperate with the House Financial Services Committee’s investigation into President Trump and has turned over records related to its dealings with him, according to Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., the committee chair.

Waters, who is leading a wide-ranging investigation into Trump’s business dealings, told reporters Tuesday that the bank -- which loaned Trump billionswhen nearly every major bank refused to do business with him after a string of bankruptcies -- is handing over documents related to its relationship with Trump, according to The Hill.

Waters added that she is satisfied with the level of the company’s cooperation and said her committee will look into “everything” in the bank’s records on Trump. The bank previously rejected similar document requests from Waters in 2017 and 2018 when she was in the minority on the panel but has apparently had a change of heart now that Democrats control the House.

That Mueller report must be brutal towards the entire Republican party. Just crazy. The fact they won't release it says so much.

Then let the private sector and other rich arseholes continue to fund it. Make them pay if they want their name to be attached to it for corporate image and write offs.

It's a charity not a government program. Special Olympics will be just fine.

Surprise, surprise.....well not really.  Anyone thinking  Trump would face major repercussions  from the Mueller report hasn't been paying enough attention to past  U.S. history,  anything and everything will be minimized to the point of appeasement in order to save face.  I have no doubt Mueller produced a truthful document but there was no way in hell they were ever going to expose the raw truth contained to the outside world without first running it through a strong filter.  The rot of corruption is throughout their government institution,  as with the Brett Kavanaugh hearing,  upon close inspection even their examination process  is ruled by blatant partisanship and infected with rot.   Democrats or Republicans doesn't matter, it's the system  of checks and balances that is broken and in need of repair.
