US Politics

Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Do respect this one though:

Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna take the salary, the president’s salary?

Donald Trump: Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. But it’s a -- I don’t even know what it is.

Donald Trump: Do you know what the salary is?

Lesley Stahl: $400,000 you’re giving up.

Donald Trump: No, I’m not gonna take the salary. I’m not taking it.

There probably won't be a an outright  war, but could be an increasing number of shootings and bombings by White terrorists. If Trump loses the next election, probably be a lot of people who think that the result was rigged. Trump/Republicans stoke people to a state of rage.

The whole thing really is frightening.

Yes, I know some people will pooh-pooh all this and say its just anti-Trump people going insane.  But I think there is a real fear.  I mean, you have a mad bomber indoctrinated into the Trump cult who tries to assassinate his political enemies, people he stated were enemies by name.  Trump has never tried to douse the flames, he fans them.

Its not like there will be a civil war because the majority of these racist right wing nuts seem very cowardly.  But many have stockpiles of weapons and they're going to do bad things fighting an imaginary war for their "dear leader".

I think we've learned that one person can do a lot of damage in a one-off scenario.

The good news is that the Spokane County sheriff forwarded the holy war manifesto to the FBI.  Who knows how seriously they're taking this stuff, though, with that terrifying column of refugees marching through southern Mexico...

Googling back on the Spokane sherrif, a guy named Sheriff Ozzy, the dude is well acquainted with crazy fundies and militias -- in 2011, a white supremacist tried to bomb the MLK Jr. parade in Spokane with a serious-ass fragmentation bomb, one seeded with rat poison to prevent wound coagulation.

To bring it home for Winnipeggers, Matt Nichols' college, Eastern Washington, is in Spokane County just south of Shea's legislative district.

(of course, not saying that Nichols is part of any of this bullshit, just laying out some geography)

Also, not far from the Malheur Wildlife reserve taken over by various milita types, and Ruby Ridge.

There's a very good documentary, used to be on netflix, about the people of a small town in N Dakota who worked very hard, and drove out a Nazi. Really frightening, but also encouraging. welcome to leith.

The man who shot dead two women at a yoga studio in Tallahassee, Florida, on Friday before killing himself was a far-right extremist and self-proclaimed misogynist who railed against women, black people, and immigrants in a series of online videos and songs.

Scott Beierle, 40, was named by Tallahassee Police as the gunman who opened fire inside the Hot Yoga Tallahassee studio, killing two and injuring four other women and a man.

Trump is destroying a lot of lives.

It’s crazy to think that the public has to pin its hopes on the military  ignoring an order from the President.  But it’s not without precedent

its believed Nixon’s Sec. of defense told the Joint Chiefs to ignore any military order from Nixon that didn’t also include the Sec. signature.   This was near the end as Nixon because desperate, paranoid and railed against his enemies.

Sound familiar?

They call it patriotic treason.

US military has done some crazy stuff.

Operation Northwoods was a proposed false flag operation against the Cuban government that originated within the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) of the United States government in 1962. The proposals called for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) or other U.S. government operatives to commit acts of terrorism against American civilians and military targets, blaming it on the Cuban government, and using it to justify a war against Cuba.

not a conspiracy theory, the signed documents are public. Kennedy said no thanks.

In a way, all the lies and coverups and plots  and bullshit, they've pulled off, explains why American people are so willing to belief crazy things.

like when Bush senior's group lied to congress about iraqi troops bayonetting babies in incubators. complete fabrication to get the war on.

American people have  been lied to so often, it sets the table for believing anything.

Committing acts of terrorism on Americans at home blaming the Cubans??? That is chilling. No wonder there are 9/11 conspiracy theories.

Any President who approves a plan like that is a psychopathic monster who deserves the death penalty. Kennedy who was a womanizer wasn't short of morality even though he used bad judgement at times with women like Marilyn Monroe would never have gone for a plan like that.

Those Generals should have been arrested. No way they should have got off scott free after coming up with a plan like that.

Impossible to predict the results today.  Republicans could retain power due to employment numbers going up. Democrats still learning on Obama - seem to be struggling for fresh ideas.

GOP good at messaging even if it’s a racist fake message. Trump is most unpopular president ever at mid terms but still has 40% support (scary commentary on America isn’t it?).

Large turn out favours Dems. Common sense does too. But mobilizing voters works both ways.

Losing House & Senate to Dems is game over for Trump. Won’t happen. Losing House empowers Dems but could eventually be a drag on voters.

Rumors of mueller having some big news this week.

Those two things can’t co-exist. As always, there’s the vocal minority and the silent majority.

So are we expecting a smooth mid terms or will the results drive Trump to rage tweet.
