Nichols struggled early on and this was definitely his worst of the three starts. I think people are underestimating his effect on this offense and team though.
I definitely think other moves have played a big role in this streak (the biggest likely being Neufeld getting hurt and moving us to another American) but Nichols has really, really helped this team.
To me, this argument is put to rest until Nichols plays poorly for a prolonged stretch. I don't see why Nichols should get a shorter leash than Willy, especially when the results have been so different.

Not sure why this thread is still going.
But... Nichols looked awful to start and then picked it up.
Not one of Nichols better games tho.
Major props to the D. When you get 6 turnovers a game the last 2 games pretty much... you had better win.

You keep Willy as an insurance policy for the rest of the year. We're still in the playoff hunt. Do you think they want to trust an unproven Davis?
By the time you get around to potential NFL cuts like Muamba etc, you're likely looking at paying those guys for 6-7 games. Cost drops a lot.

I really like what Medlock has brought to our team. "okay boys I'm kicking it to the right corner" and he does it.....every time. Same with kick-offs they have a plan and he kicks it to the spot he's supposed to. Coupled with the hang time results in great coverage.
The first guy missed Fogg every time last night, it was pretty obvious they had designed returns as well. Really liked our ST play last night.

MOS might go with Willy if Nichols can't play but that would be a mistake. His team-mates checked out on him several games ago.

McDuffie has been just fine back there. I would be cautious with using a full time DB as a returner on both punts and kickoffs. McDuffie also gives us an option on offense if we run into injuries there (unlikely I know)

Depth certainly doesn't appear to be our problem. Some of the new guys are better than the guys they replaced and it will become a good problem for management when the injured get healthy. Their sure were a lot of complaints about our scouting in the off season, which seem to be completely wrong.

At this point, our secondary when entirely healthy has got to be ... Randle/Fogg/Loffler/Johnson/Adams with Frederick as the 6th (but I think they usually shove a Canadian in that spot, so maybe not)
But basically NFW does Macho get his spot back. Fogg is suddenly a stud now too.

As an addendum, how nice was it to see Denmark back making plays for us out there. He was always such a class act here, I'm glad that there were no hard feelings from the offseason and he was able to come back. Our team is better with him in than without.

I said all along we were a pretty good football team, we just needed a quarterback.
Oddly enough, looks like for the time being, we've got one.

So as much as we railed on Walters and co. for their poor US scouting and apparent lack of depth on the team during our poor start, based on the last few weeks we maybe have to revisit that idea. Here is the game 1 starting lineup and now the depth behind the starters (in some cases former starters):
    QB: Willy/Nichols
    HB: Harris
    WR: Davis
    WR: Dressler/K. Adams
    SB: Smith/Denmark
    SB: Davis
    SB: D. Adams/Mayo
    WR: Kohlert
    LT: Bryant
    LG: Hardrick/Bond
    C: Goossen
    RG: Chungh
    RT: Neufeld/Hardrick
    DE: Green/Cole
    DE: Westerman/Corney
    DT: Shologan
    DT: Cummings
    WIL: Bass/Wild
    MLB: Wild/Bass/Knox
    SAM: Leggett/Burnett
    CB: J. Adams/Frederick
    CB: Randle/Roberts
    HB: Posey/Fogg
    HB: B. Johnson
    S: M. Harris/Loffler
I included guys like Knox and Burnett due to their work on teams, you could also add guys like Waggoner and D. Jones as well as they were Walters guys as well. Obviously it's only 2 games but based on the supposed issues we had with depth when we were 1-4 I think we need to acknowledge the fact that these depth guys have been integral to our success over the last 2 weeks.

Don't look now, but if we can manage to beat Toronto we'll be looking at 4-4 heading into the bye. This is a HUGE game for the Bombers. Who would of thought at 1-4 we had a chance

Bond is a big, big man and is great in the interior but he just doesn't have the speed to get out in front and block on those tosses/stretch runs. Mayo was a pedestrian on one play too where Lee came in and made the tackle on Harris, just gave him the ol' matador and let him through.
We saw last week when he wasn't being contacted behind the LOS he had success, this week was more of a struggle. He didn't really have any holes and had to try to make them himself.
The one thing I will say for Andrew Harris is the dude never gives up and his attitude from a fan's perspective is awesome to see. He is on the sidelines firing guys up and you can see his intensity on every play. For me, the play where Laurent had him dead to rights in the backfield and Harris just threw him off and ended up getting 8-9 yards was just an all out effort play. We haven't seen that much around these parts lately.

what's the saying about stats being for losers... something like that... I'll gladly give up 300+ yards a game if we're only allowing 11 points...
but I do agree about the offense in the second half... would have been nice to see a kill shot and put the game away in the 3rd quarter... was kinda hoping to see Dom Davis in this game too...

The defence and ST's both played a full 60 minute game. But yes the offence struggled in the 2nd half.
However, in sports this is a common scenario where a team explodes in the 1st half and then comes out flat in the 2nd half.  I think the plan for the offence was to protect the ball and ride out the game.   So the lack of offensive output was predictable but it still would have been nice to put up a few more points in the 2nd half.

at the game I said to my son and my dad, while I was overly pumped by the 1st half dominance, it would be more telling in the 2nd half as hamilton would make adjustments , something they couldnt seem to do in the first 2 quarters.  Seemed to me with a 34 point cushion, the bombers were in No turn overs, run out the clock mode.  While I agree with Dunigan to an extent, we were in unfamiliar territory as of late where we had the game firmly in hand early. The 2nd half wasnt as exciting as the first but we only gave up 11 points,  which is pretty good for 2 quarters playing bend but dont break style ball.  great game

What a delightful game ... amazing defense and lights out offense in the first quarter (again with a similar offensive output to last week's Q1).
    So we got it done.
Now maybe defenses "adjust" and eventually take away our initial game plan.
My question, however, is whether Ds really do shut us down later, OR. OR, OR ... do we quit adjusting and go with what is "prudent" (read that as conservative/safe) instead of shifting to take advantage of how the adjusting D is cheating up, leaving us different types of opportunities. In other words do we voluntarily shut ourselves down?
    I really don't know, but ...
When we lost our starting tackle, why do we start trying to establish a running game, especially when that had not been working  earlier in the game? That's not "adjusting" to what the D gives. That, as it turns out, is "two and out" territory.
Matt Dunigan was pleading with the Blue to go for the throat, to put the game away. Instead we turtled and had little O in the 2nd half. As good as our D was, we ended up giving up another 300+ yards passing.  Match our play calling to our strengths and the defense's cheats... that's what I want to see.
Now back to celebrating and doing cartwheels....

So who else stuck it out last night?... my friends and I decided we were already there so we might as well stick around for a bit... due to my complete lack of confidence in this team... I wasn't completely comfortable til the final 3 minute warning.... but I'm glad I stayed... got to bed around 1:30-1:45 am... needless to say my 5:45 am alarm came quite quickly this morning!

Bond was also added back so I think he's been helping a lot. Him and Hardrick are monsters. But Nichols is definitely making a difference.
