Jesse reacted to BigBlue in The Most Important Game: Wpg @ Regina
Given we have not won the Grey Cup since 1990, going to Regina for the Labor Day Classic  has become the most important game of the Bomber season. The Banjo bowl supplements it but there can be no sweeter victory than beating the Roughies on their home turf in front of their "Laboring" crowd. For me it is everything, regardless of whatever else we do in a season.
I think Regina is a better club than the Alouettes so I am expecting a huge battle. I thought Lapo turtled with the offense after halftime. Downfield passing all but disappeared. So we won on turnovers 2016 style. But this is no way to beat the Rougies, Regina will turn the table on us if we try that ultra conservative play calling again. At least we won't have to deal with Montreal's blitz crazy defense. Kevin Glenn will have something to prove.

It's a tradition. There's no advantage to it. Especially since we have the Banjo Bowl on the Saturday now.
Leave it the way it is.

The fact that Ekakatie isn't ready yet is just fine by me. The days of needing first year players to step in right away are gone. Let him cook on the PR for awhile along with Couture and Spooner, and be ready in a couple years...

I'm glad 1290 is putting more into the Bombers and the CFL in general. I get frustrated when they spend crazy time on hockey when the CFL season is in full swing and the hockey boys are still in the gym, and golfing.

I doubt the Bombers have to cut anyone to find $100k.  They don't spend their entire cap budget on the opening day roster.  No team does.
All teams budget some slush into the roster for injuries and mid-season signings.  If it were me, it would be at $250 - 300,000, at minimum.  The idea that the Bombers have already fully committed over $5.05 of the $5.15 million in cap space they have for this season with more than half the season remaining is preposterous.  Walters is not that dumb.

With all respect to your intent, we'll just have to settle for studying film. Mr. Ploen has earned his retirement well, and paid for his efforts dearly. I'd like him to enjoy entering gate two at IGF as a valued alumni and feeling honoured.

Players don't always rush out of town when they're released.  They might be one injury away from having a job again.  As long as they have a couch to crash on and access to the team buffet and workout room, going back home and going thru the classifieds isn't always the first choice.  Besides, Winnipeg is almost mosquito-free this year.  How often will that happen*?

*with the rise in global temperatures one of the long term effects in our region will be increased droughts, so a byproduct of this may be a decrease in mosquito numbers.  So, possibly much more often.

It worked last year. It didnt this year. 1960s is a long time ago. D's have improved lots since then.

We need to study some 1960's film:
Kenny Ploen  laterals left (an apparent sweep) to Leo Lewis who then throws it the opposite direction, right, to a wide open abandoned Kenny Ploen .... and how many times did we see the same type of play in its many  variations such as Ploen to Lewis to Ploen to Lewis
Time to get Kenny out of his rocker and down to a closed practice

Like I said earlier, gonna have to agree to disagree.. Nichol's did have position on the DB, DB was behind him at the goal line.  If adam's throws the pass, its possibly caught or gets a PI.  I'm more then willing to accept it didn't work as planned and it was a failure but I still don't see it as a bad call.

There's a pretty clear difference to me and it's not just a matter of saying "oh, a trick play see he's not conservative!"
I'm a big Lapo fan and I don't give him as much of a hard time as some others may want to, but that play call was horrendous for so many reasons.
We marched the ball down the field at will in front of the biggest crowd of the year, coming away with a touchdown on our first possession of the game would've put an exclamation mark on things for a crowd that was dying for an excuse to go nuts. Our yardage on each play of that drive (not counting the short yardage play) was 9, 8, 12, 9, 16, 6, 5 - we were first and goal on the 6 yard line. 7 plays consecutively with positive yardage, not a single incompletion and we land ourselves in striking distance. We were KILLING them and we just gave it all back in one stupid decision.
Here's my issue with the call: even if you want to call it, call it on second down. Calling it on first down basically killing two downs at once because now we're in goal 14 yards out and Edmonton essentially just had to play the line of scrimmage. Call the smart play on first down and if THAT fails, get creative. Don't piss away an entire drive to give yourself a chubby because you made a fancy play call. It took the energy out of the building entirely and it was just unnecessary. There's a difference between being conservative and being smart and I'm sure even LaPolice would look back on that and know he made a bad call. It happens, every OC does it. That doesn't mean it WASN'T a bad call.

On the Watson play, I was more mad at the lack of good tackling by the Bombers than the 'holdin' from Edmonton. Could have gone either way. Not worth a challenge.
As to the DBs being run over, your "letter of the law"  quote is accurate. A CFL source has confirmed that very wording.
And yes, as to the way the call is made on DBs, that has to change, when they are obviously run into. That very fact was brought up by none other than Chris Jones. He believes that Calgary runs plays exactly for that reason..that is, to draw contact penalties. Especially before the challenge rule was changed. I believe there is some truth to that belief.
To me, if a defender is merely 'standing his ground', I don't see why an illegal contact penalty should be called. This call invites receivers to initiate  contact for that very reason.

Depends on where we're at when he's ready to come back, but if he comes back willing and able to play the last 6 games of the season + playoffs, I'd throw a prorated 200k at him, which would be 66k-ish - and I'd give him whatever we need to upfront.
Can you imagine a group of receivers made up of Walker-Adams-Dressler-Thorpe-JFG?

So I take it Chris Jones recently bought a used copy of Madden 25. Guess his copy of Madden 08 got scratched or something.

No one in the history of the CFL has ever done 1000/1000 rush/rec. If Harris can do that he is the MOP. Since he is on pace for it right now that makes him my choice for MOP up to now with Nichols nipping at his heels.

Statistically, all of the QBs are so similar. MOP/ All Star nods will probably come down to team success.
