I'd bring him in only after TC. If they end up having zero confidence in any of the guys they bring to camp, then sure...go and get him. But otherwise, I think it would be a waste

Counterpoint, the SMS has gone up 750k since 2024 so Collaros' share is noticeablely smaller. (10.9% vs 8.8%).

Honestly. It’s probably where he should be. QBs get paid and his resume is solid. 3rd highest after 5 straight cup appearances and 1 early playoff exit makes sense to me.

No matter what the cap is, or exemptions there is no way a cfl team can compete with the nfl financially. It would just drive up payrolls

The thing is that you can only keep so many guys on the roster and futures can definitely be helpful sometimes when roster spots are limited. Is a 3rd rounder likely to come in and beat out any of your incumbents? That's the question you ask, if not then a futures pick can be the smart pick at that position. Lots goes into the equation, whats our roster makeup currently, what is our projection for our 2nd and 3rd year NATs? How deep is the draft? One shouldn't think that Elgersma is a flyer either. He is a guy chasing a dream that is going to end up here. A NAT QB with a high ceiling and a high probability of being in the CFL sooner rather than later is NOT a flyer. So, in short I agree with your assessment that rounds 3-4 you go realistic fliers, and then hail marys after that IF the draft is not deep or you don't want to draft someone just to have to release someone of equal talent already on your roster.

It's funny to be the NFL got so upset at the NFLPA for their member body grading the teams, but the NFL doesn't have any issue trotting out independent people grading players performance on a play by play basis (PFF) and having their broadcast partners blast it all over their coverage.
I don't think its reasonable to expect anyone to be able to parlay a career in the CFL to 7 or 8 million dollars... once he is off his ELC he'd be 27... so it would take 10 years @ 700K AAV to get him to 7 million... and that is if one of a million different things that could go wrong to derail a career doesn't go wrong. To project someone who spent 4 years in CIS ball and had one half decent NFL preseason game to end up the highest paid CFL player ever post US-Expansion seems... pie in the sky at best.

Yes, but the podcast (Blue Bombers Podcast) is posted pretty quickly after it's conclusion. Its the better option as there are no commercials.

Gotta say, I listened to the Collaros presser and I think Hodge took a partial quote and turned it into way more than it was.
Collaros was asked if he ever thinks about retirement and he said he does. He was asked "so you think there's a chance this might be your last season?" And he said "sure there's a chance" but he also said that he feels great and that as long as he feels he can perform and help the team win, he's going to keep playing. He also said he likes the 1 year deals and just playing it by ear.
So I wouldn't get too hung up on any potential ZC8 retirement announcements...

For me i don’t mind the hype whether it’s warranted or not because at this stage he’s a prospect of ours and we always hold hope a prospect works out for us until it does or it doesn’t. Keep it simple and manage our expectations appropriately.
Also, this just in, Riders continue to suck royally, report at 10.

Yea...and I am of the opinion that unless a game is completely out of reach you play your starter. It's why he's paid the big bucks. In the CFL we have watched teams come back from double digit deficits in the last 2 mins of a game on many occasions. This isn't the NFL where that would be insurmountable. I don't want my coach to ever throw in the towel on a game for the sake of getting QB2 or QB3 some reps. Just my opinion.

100% disagree. It's one thing if you have someone like prime Streveler who can be really effective in giving you that kind of look that can put a D off-balance. But for the most part you're not getting that level of production from backup QB's. They have so much information and pictures available now instantly that this tropey **** about "seeing some snaps from the sideline" and putting the backup in just to provide that has no purpose. If you have a weapon like prime Streveler (he was not that guy in his return from the NFL in 24-25), yeah use him. But that's pretty rare.
I don't think you'll see someone play consistently bad and not get pulled if there's a belief on the team that the next guy up would perform better overall.

that would be a big surprise to see. Dude lets players play through their struggles and doesn't even like to take out Collaros when the Bombers are on the good side of a blowout.
Not pulling struggling Zach doesn't bother me so much -- Zach's upside is far far far greater than that of a Terry Wilson or even a Streveler. Multiple times over his career he's gone from zero in one quarter to hero in another. If it was someone like Taylor Powell or MBT or Brown on the bench behind Zach, someone who's proven he belongs in the CFL, I might feel different.
So unless MOS abruptly changes his ways, only a ZC8 injury will result in significant backup reps.
Zach has been actually been pretty durable the past few years -- started all 18 games in 2022-2024 and started 13 last year, and one of his missed games was the BS piss test one.

It's the degree of certainty with which people in this board speak, in regards to things that may or may not have happened... That amazes me day in and day out.

There’s also the reality that I see a lot of people on social media (not here) missing, which is that a lot of our veterans aren’t getting raises.
I guarantee you Willie, Kyrie, Bryant, Neufeld, Eli, Castillo as a whole make less than they did last year.

We also let go of some big ticket low impact players … Ceresna over Vaughters was less than $100k increase. Tim White over Dillon Mitchell was maybe a $50k cap increase. Jonathan Jones and Peyton Logan are gone and their cap hits were decent. Even Jake Thomas had a decent cap hit that is now off the books.
We paid big money to Pokey, Holm, Lawson, Kramdi, Brady and some others but a lot of that went on the 2025 cap and a lot of it came from offsets elsewhere and that’s probably exactly why we were able to come out swinging on a guy like Broxton. It may not result in a return to the glory days (also, it may) but I can’t help but be impressed with what Walters has done with the cap so far.

Really going to miss Schoen on the Bombers, it was a treat getting to watch him play when he was fully healthy.   Always going to be a big what if.   If he could have stayed healthy I think he could have turned into one of the greats. Dumb decisions to play him injured, and man the guy took a pounding after the catch on some less than stellar passes.

Give him a role like Brandon Alexander within the organization.  He doesnt take up a roster spot and is still able to be around the fans.
