I always cheer when a homebrew gets a shot at a premier position usually filled by an American. I was hoping that Hurl could blossom into a solid MLB, but he has not. Alex Singleton for the Stamps looks real good and Loffler and Jones looked promising for the Bombers. That same thinking led me to hope that O'Shea could become another Wally Buono, but (sigh), it was not to be.

As has been said here repeatedly, Nichols, Davis and Bennett may or may not be the answer, but the evidence is now overwhelming that Willy is not, if he ever was. Willy may be able to resurrect his career, as Kevin Glenn did, but he is done here. It would take a large miracle for us to make the playoffs this year, so lets use the rest of the season constructively to sort out the sheep from the goats.

Both teams played as if they believed they could win, and I haven't seen much of that from our side this year or much of last. Whether or not anyone wants to say it our loud, this edition of the Bombers has lost that confidence and needs a major shakeup. -
For those who are still advocating "continuity" in the Bomber coaching and GM positions, last night's game ought to be the final proof that they are beating a dead horse. Up to then, I was 50-50 about Walters staying on as GM with a new head coach, but unless one of our backup QB's is way better than we think, the play of the three backups was a revelation. They were not perfect, but they were decisive and all made some very good passes and handoffs- way better than we have seen from Willy in two years. Time to clean house. Higgins for head coach and Murphy for GM.

Does a blow out against the Eskimos cost MOS his job?

Not likely to happen, but I share your sentiments. -
See your dentist for free plaque.

It may be my failing memory, but I cannot recall any NFL cut coming mid-season and making a big splash here in recent years.

Does a blow out at home Thursday get MOS fired?

For the love of God, no LaPolice, but I need to qualify that. We don't know how much freedom LaPo has in setting the personnel on the field, but we do know that O'Shea has been determining that Willy is the starter. If O'Shea has been calling the offensive shots, then LaPolice may be a decent interim head coach. -

I suggest that it will not take yet another blowout to end O'Shea's career here- another loss will do it. There's only so much losing a team can take before the players give up and I think if we're not there yet, we soon will be. -
From the body language of the players before half-time, they did not expect to win, and I think the whole team has given up. There was a brief flurry of hope when Nichols came in, but by that time, the game was pretty much decided. Three points at the half? Willy has lost the confidence of his team mates and I believe O'Shea is in the same boat.

While Walters is not blameless, we have too many instances of poor players being kept and played too long, or players who were not good enough here but have done well elsewhere. That has to fall on O'Shea. Moreover, if O'Shea chose his assistants, he has not done well there, either. If a very good GM candidate is available, then Walters should be gone as well, but right now, as has been pointed out elsewhere in this forum, O'Shea has failed both the players and the fans.
-
The GM is not going to publicly throw his coach under the bus, just as the coach will not trash a given player in public unless all else has failed and that player is pretty much out the door anyways.

Murphy for GM and Higgins for head coach.

The vultures are gathering as the smell of impending death grows stronger... -
I suggest that Willy ought to hit the long ones if/when available but he needs to establish the run and short routes while offsetting the inevitable Calgary blitzes.
-
I think ti would be a lot worse for both Willy and the team if he started trying to force the ball to prove that he can pitch it that far. Willy absolutely cannot give up an early INT.
-
For Calgary to win: get to Willy early and blitz him a lot, victimize Robert, Macho Harris and Posey. For the Bombers to win: get Andrew Harris involved often and early, keep Willy upright, blitz Mitchell at random and smother . Above all, keep Calgary to under 20 points offensively, and for God's sake, don't let Willy start pitching long bombs into tight coverage just to prove he can.

Reports out of Montreal that both Duron Carter and Nic Lewis have been fined for making public statements about the current state of affairs in the Alouettes. Lewis can be excused because he is a veteran but Carter took to social media to air his grievances. -

And the Argos have brought Adrian McPherson back. I love the smell of desperation. -
Re: Dressler's comments- I believe he was walking while whistling and a graveyard was nearby when he spoke.

But that might be cathartic for the coaches.

Well, lets see what Wally can pull out of his bag.

The problem in firing a coach mid-season lies not in the firing for cause, but in replacing him with another poor choice. There are no easy choices, and the GM has to decide which is the lesser of two evils- keeping a poor coach on with the attending message that repeated failure is acceptable and without consequence or a roll of the dice. -

It concerns me that apparently the O-line was back to practicing blocking drills- something they ought to have picked up in training camp. Obviously they need the practice but why do they not know something so basic yet?
