I don't post much, but I read pretty much every comment made on MBB.
I just have to say that I'm still coming to grips with the fact that we are Grey Cup Champs!
After the last game against Hamilton, I was really down, sitting in the stands and questioning how such a promising season could have gone so wrong, how a team could be so cursed. My wife said that all teams have losses like this and to stay positive.
Trading for Collaros provided some hope. Didn't quite know what to expect though. 4 games later, and he will go down as a Blue Bomber legend! The way Lapo used him and Streveler was brilliant!
Andrew Harris played the game of a lifetime in the Grey Cup (or for Harris, a game he has 5 times a season)! Couldn't have asked for a better performance! And screw all of the haters!
The D was amazing in the playoff run! Props to Richie Hall for coming through big time when it counted! Jefferson and Jeffcoat were absolute BEASTS in the GC! Giving up 3 tds in 3 games? Crazy!
Medlock was money all playoffs. Thought he should have been an all-star for his punting. But now he's Grey Cup champ, so I'm sure he'd take that in a heartbeat.
It's funny how things turn out. I've been a season ticket holder for 12 seasons. A fan for much, much longer than that. I've been through so many ups and downs (many more downs). Of all of the years that we could have won the cup, so many crazy things had to happen right this year to do it! This was our year!
Winnipeg Blue Bombers, 2019 Grey Cup Champions! Has such a good ring to it! 😁

I don't know how we can reasonably compare two quarterbacks on one series of plays. Had Nichols been the QB on the fist series we don't know what his first play would have been. How can we compare his situation to Streveler. Nichols might not have gotten sacked on the first play and could have been 1 and 10, 2 and 5  or with his propensity for throwing the ball away 2 and 10.
Also, Nichols might have completed the two passes to Wolitarsky.  Sometimes I get the feeling our good fortune is not good enough for some. Why go to so much trouble to equate  a raw rookie with an experienced pro?

And Masoli injured himself for the season falling down by himself in a game. What's your point? Streveler held the ball too long in the LDC and got hit from behind. Could have had the same outcome as the Nichols hit. All depends on where exactly you land when you have a 320 pound man falling on you with all of his weight. Has nothing to do with being "injury prone".
Streveler and Nichols bring different things to the table. I believe that we would have won Banjo Bowl just as easily with Nichols, and likely would have won LDC. I'm glad to see Streveler improving, but he still has a long way to go in the passing game. But would Nichols have been able to make the 20 yard runs (or many of the runs) that Streveler makes? Heck no.

He might be the best defensive player I’ve ever seen. The best sequence of the game for me was Jefferson forcing the fumble on the strip sack, then while the scrum was still going on for the ball, him running away, celebrating and then doing a backflip! What a beast!

He hardly takes 2 or 3 steps. From the side camera angle, he gets contacted in the midst of his first step after the snap, or at the most, as he has just taken his first step. His head might be up at the point of contact, but it has only been up for a split second at that point.
Further, the rule "Delivering a forcible blow to the long snapper while their head is down and they are in a vulnerable position and unable to protect them self," is part of the unnecessary roughness rule, which also states that: "A player shall be penalized for any act of unnecessary roughness against an opponent, including but not limited to:" and "Any other act of roughness or unfair play, provided it is not considered excessive enough to warrant disqualification." So to anybody defending that it was not a penalty as defined in the rule book, the refs were well within their right to flag - and they should have flagged - that hit simply based on the unnecessary roughness definition.

To those who want objectivity, here are some defensive stats by rank in the league from two seasons:
    Season 1:
1st in fewest 1st downs allowed
    1st in total yards against
    3rd in rushing yards against
    1st in passing yards against
1st in yards allowed per pass
    1st in fewest passes against
    1st in interceptions
    3rd in points allowed
    1st in sacks

    Season 2:
    6th in yards allowed
    6th in rushing yards allowed
8th in yards allowed per pass
6th in yards passing allowed (with fewest pass attempts against)
    8th in interceptions
    7th in points allowed
    8th in passing tds allowed
(and to show that I'm not just cherry picking all of the worst stats, 1st in yards allowed per rush, 4th in % completed passing, 3rd in passing 1st downs allowed)

As I'm sure you can tell where this is going, Season 1 is Bombers 2011 season, Season 2 is Bombers 2012 season. Both with Burke as D-coordinator and pretty much the same starting defence! So, either all of the players got worse, Burke lost it as a coordinator, or most likely, both. He can't complain about the players there. But he sure complained about the offence and how he didn't know much about offence as a head coach, but never addressed why the defence all of a sudden took a huge downturn, even though that's his supposed area of expertise. Add in the fact that his defences and team (when HC) have been completely undisciplined, then, yes, we can say that he is not necessarily a good d coordinator anymore. Do I expect the Argos to play like that the whole season? No. Do I expect them to be good? Based on the last couple of years of Burke's D, no.

As for continuing to "pick" on him, well, since last year was one of the worst Bombers seasons in history, and since I had way more fun last night than I had during ANY game last year (I went to every home game last year), and since he opened his mouth again this week and didn't take any responsibility for the atrocity that was last year, then as fans, we have every right to complain about him and that he is one of the, if not the worst coaches in our team's history.

Well, after years of reading other forums, trying to join other forums, and never being able to sign into other forums (was I being discriminated against because I'm ginger? Yes, I believe so  ) I finally get to make my first post! I want to post my thoughts on games throughout the year, but I also don't want to take away from other people's game recap posts. I love reading Do or Die's Odds & Sods!

I want to give my thoughts on the good and bad and suggestions and then get other people's views as well. I don't proclaim to know everything, so if you don't agree with something I say, tell me why.

    So here goes...

Unfortunately I did not spend much time watching the game last night, so most of my post will be on my first impressions of IGF, but with some thoughts on the game in there as well.

    Hits:
IG Field is AMAZING! I loved my seats, in the upper deck. Great views of the field. We are slightly higher in the upper deck than we were in Section S at CanadInns, but we are most definitely closer to the field. There was a bit of obstruction in a raised metal railing at the bottom of the stairs, but moving your head will solve any problem with that. I can see people having complaints about the plexiglass, as it would distort your view, but the railings are definitely needed as when I was walking up for the first time, I saw someone almost fall over carrying a drink. If the railing wasn't so high, he would have tumbled right over!

The walk up to the stadium was very nice... I love the giant gate signs at each gate! Plus they provide a good reference point for meeting up with people before or after the game at a stadium that I am unfamiliar with.

The video screens are clear and large. I found myself watching more of the game on them than the field. Although that will change come the regular season.

It was great catching up with people in the section that we sat with at CanadInns. Although there were a few problems with getting tickets together, it worked out quite well!

Took a walk around the whole stadium. Very nice. Great atmosphere! As with any stadium, the concourses were a bit crowded at times. But what can you do about that? I think I've been to one stadium/arena in my life that I didn't find the concourses crowded and lineups at the concessions.

As for the game itself, I missed the first half (see Misses), so can't say anything about that. In the second half, I thought Goltz didn't look horrible at times, but never looked great. Held on to the ball a little long at times. The missed field goal return was great, but I was in the concourse getting beer at the time. Fortunately, the big screen tvs worked like a charm and I didn't miss it completely! Cameron's fg were the only points I saw. Good on him! I also liked what I saw out of Etienne. A couple of nice catches!

    Misses:
The traffic. Yup, I know, some people had fine experiences, and some didn't. Mine was awful. Took 2 and a half hours to get to the stadium. Went down the Perimeter only to get stuck in traffic because of the accident. Had to turn down St. Mary's to pick up a friend. Went to Bishop for the rest of the way. Spent an hour trying to turn onto Chancellor Matheson from Pembina. I know it won't always be like that, and I know part of it was my own fault for picking the wrong ways to go. But nobody should ever spend 2 and a half hours in traffic! So we didn't get to the game until 2 minutes left in the first half and I didn't get to my seats until half-time. Leaving was much better, but to cut down on the time, I had to escape the traffic and go down Kings Drive. The only slowdown after that was construction on Pembina at the Perimeter, but getting home was reasonable. I'm happy that the home opener is an 8pm start, so there will be more time to get there. But I do hope they make some changes to help ease the traffic flow.

Prices at the stadium. Expected increases in prices. I was pleasantly surprised that I could get a beer for $7. I don't drink much so spending $20 in a game is fine with me. The food prices were out of my price range. $9 for a mini pizza? No thanks. $10 for a specialty sausage? Don't think so. I didn't see much else so I can't comment on it, and I may find something I enjoy for a reasonable price, but just not last night.

The Bombers defense. Chase Clement. Neither were impressive. Am I worried? Not really. It's still only the first preseason game. Ask me again 3 or 4 games into the season and if it's the same, then I'll start to get worried.

Overall, it was a nice (albeit too short) night at the stadium. Some things to improve upon, but I am sure (or at least hope) that things will get better on the misses side. Can't wait for the home opener on the 27th!!
