  1. If anything, I see a gentle nudge from management for Hall to retire with a replacement coming from within. He is too respected by management to be canned.

Before anyone says that an internal coach taking the leap to Richie's position is crazy talk, remember how many of us thought that Bob Wylie would be irreplaceable.

Of course, if we can juggle the ratio (see Demski) and replace Hurl with a moderately competent import, then Richie's future looks a lot brighter

  2. Cryders keep on trotting out this "rebuild" language, like it is an acceptable and necessary move on their part. Who's to say that they wouldn't have reached the unremarkable level they currently sit at, by making less drastic change than they have over the past few years.

Just because you choose to gut a team of its existing players doesn't mean that management shouldn't be held accountable for wins and losses. Once they have to pay market value for next year's QB, you will see many of the other more costly pieces on their roster not being resigned. Looking forward to seeing who won't be back from the current roster if they have to fork out for Franklin, Collaros, Lulay, etc

Money is going to be a massive issue for Jones next year. Half his team is coming off their rookie contracts.

Not to mention that a pretty penny will have to be paid for a higher priced QB than they currently are spending on that position....or else roll with the Banks’ and Glenns’ of the world.

  4. The hit on Adams looked much worse from the stands than when I got home to watch via PVR.

It was more that Darvin was going full clip into the defender and was stopped very suddenly with a shoulder to shoulder. The defender was not running at him with a full head of steam.....But of course, a fluke injury can happen anytime (see Mo).

Also when he was leaving the field, he was not supporting his left arm. No way anyone with a fracture/dislocation is going to trot off without favouring or supporting the limb with the other arm, or at least holding it close to his body (depending on the type of injury).

If it's the Riders, then no, no its not.  It will in fact be one of the greatest events in CFL history  and I pray there will be a commemorative plaque made to honour it because I'll buy two.

I will take your thoughtful plan for twin plaques;....cut a bum-size hole in one....paint them bile green....attach them together with bailing wire ....and use them as a turlet seat for my Uncle Jebediah's outhouse.

It's actually interesting to put Matt Nichols up against other former Blue Bomber QB's who won or were runner ups for MOP award. As it stands now Matt Nichols is on pace for 5322 yards, 36 TDs, and 10 INT's ( actually 9.69 but rounding up) while completing over 70 percent of his passes.. We should also win about 13,14 wins this season. I think he actually blows 2007 KG out of the water and has the advantage over Khari Jones in 2001. Heres why.

    1) 2007 Kevin Glenn went 10-7-1 as a starter good enough for first in the East. It was a great season for the Bombers after going through a crappy 2004,2005 seasons. Glenn ended up with 5117 yards, 26 TD's, and 13 INT while completing 62.5 percent of his passing. We also had a great receiving core at the time that consisted of prime Derrick Armstrong, a young Terrence Edwards, and one of the GOATs of all time Milt Stegall, not to mention a prime Charles Roberts on the ground. All the above players mentioned were league all stars and plenty of credit to Glenn for spreading the ball around but statistically Nichols already has the same amount of passing TD's as Glenn did, will most certain finish with less INT's and is on pace to throw for more yards..

    2) 2001 Khari Jones wasn't even his best season. That was 2002 where he threw for an incredible 46 TD passes but milt had the best receiving season of all time and took MOP award. Most people hold that 2001 team fairly fondly in their heart I was only 10 years old at the time but after a crappy late 90's run suddenly we were the best team in the league and it was exciting to be a Bombers fan.. I think the one argument Khari has which I've seen people saying for Bo was that he was on the best team in the league. The Bombers were the class of the league but I could see Winnipeg winning 13,14 games this year.. It's certainly not out of  reach at this point. But if we compare stats Khari's 2001 season consisted of 4545 yards, 30 TD passes and 23 INT, with a 60.3 percent passing completion. He also had prime Stegall, Bobby Gorgeous, and a young Charles Roberts. Obviously the game has changed in 16 years but Nichols will have Khari beat in every category except for possible regular season wins.. Also Nichols certainly does have a great o line.. A lot better then our 2001 team, and a slight edge over our 2007 team, Nichols also has a better running game then Jones had in 2001, but Roberts was still great in 2007.. The biggest difference really being the receiving core.. It was much better in 2001, and 2007. Anyways just my break down and my opinion compared to other  great Bomber QB seasons!

    Nice research Arnie

I've tried to pay closer attention to when Hurl is on the field and not. Seems like he's off the field a lot more recently. I think Briggs might be coming in more often for him on passing downs. We seemed to be rotating linebackers a bit against Edmonton, but maybe I'm just noticing it more or we're just shifting out LBs for DBs.

It's impossible to keep track of all the rotations that take place during a game. In a fantasy world, I would be able to see the percentage of non special team snaps each player takes, and which position they play when they do.

Briggs and Neuf immediately come to mind.

Our coach actually said that about Carmichael? Really? Or is that fake news?

Rod Hill WAS the greatest defensive back not only in Bomber history but IMHO in league history. He was so good that when we had him and Less Browne (leagues all-time INT leader) at the same time QB's would throw to Browne's side instead of Hill's side. Wow, that was a defense!

I saw Hill at Duckworth today...working the room.

Looks like he could still strap them on.

Deciding to re-sign him at what he may want is what I was referring to as a possible offseason big issue ...

If he's not under contract for next year, and since there will be little other competition for him at the current rate, he either takes a haircut or moves on to life after football.

Maybe they meet in an area of mutual agreement, where  Bombers sign him to a Fantuz-like, coaches contract. The thinking being, that they can activate him on a player's contract if needed due to injury?

To me, the BB hold all the cards on this one.
