I was thinking the same thing.  I can only imagine all of the mis-spellings of Puja-alphabet if we pick him instead of Laine.  Assuming that TO picks Auston Matthews.  I still wouldn't rule out an offer from Arizona to get Matthews.  It would have to be pretty huge.

Heikki Riihiranta; my all time indecipherable Finn.

  2. To me, it's about his audacity.

This specific situation may or may not be acceptable in the legal sense, but...what acting mayor with any sense of propriety or concern about the image he should be upholding, would get involved in something that appears so unethical?

I just hate the way he shrugs his shoulders and I says I did nothing illegal, while everything around the whole situation smells like sewage.

  3. If you're looking for a gift for yourself or any beer drinking Manitoban, consider: 300 Years of Beer: An Illustrated History of Brewing in Manitoba

It's a really lovely coffee table book full of vintage photos & info. pertaining to Manitoba's rich brewing history.

One of the authors is a pal of mine and he really took on the development as a labour of love (we were both 2nd generation Mb.brewery workers). His only regret is the lack of due diligence by the publishers around proofing the text. If you can get past some of the glaring typos, it is a very nice read.

I've shipped copies to a number of former 'Tobans as gifts. They unanimously (particularly the old timers) enjoy it.

I don't get the Bomber hate exactly, They identified areas of need and went out and got those guys.

Harris - we needed a RB... we got one, he's from here, wanted to be here. Lochard? With Harris here now and BC going International at RB, it makes sense he would follow his buddy Harris

Smith - Our receivers needed to be upgraded, essentially, Dressler replaces Moore and Smith is an upgrade on whoever from last year, I'd suspect we see 4 Internationals starting at Receiver... Denmark,Dressler,Smith,Adams???,Kohlert.

Medlock - was no secret we needed a kicker, we got one.

Shologan - DL was a weak spot last year, Shologan helps.

Keeping - Vet OL who can play center and guard and is a good guy off the field, helps the leadership on the team.

I don't know why anyone would be upset or angry over the Bomber signing these guys, It's not like they are signing them for the sake of signing them... Who did we sign from Calgary? Which of these guys did Calgary want? I don't get it really.

Free Agency... identify areas of need and go and get the guys you want. That's what Walters did.

This is the whole point of free agency isn't it?

Weren't they in the running for Dressler?

  5. Sure, you would think that DW would be asked about his thoughts on compatibility with Cortez. I would also guess that R. Hall might have something to add. These are but a few of the elements which could make up part of a pre-screen on his hiring.

The reality is, Cortez longevity in a small league will leave very little to the imagination...except how he was/is able to adapt over time.

  6. There aren't many outcomes that will surprise me because there are so many variables at play.

The one thing that should absolutely not happen, is for the Bombers to be outcoached.

They will be facing a first time head coach in his first game on the most pressure packed stage of all. For that matter, it will be their DC calling his first solo game as well.

Now's the time for the WBB coaches to make it happen against a very inexperienced opposing staff.

  7. Toth is no loss; he was personable enough, but rarely brought anything worthwhile to the table.

At least with the addition of Currier you have a fairly astute broadcaster. You won't have the clear division between the serious news guy and the fluff guy, as you'll no longer have to endure KKs obvious lake of depth on anything meaningful. I can actually envision the potential for mildly compelling dialogue between GC and RC (particularly at election time)...something KK could never do.

If she's still on the stick tomorrow, listen to the interplay between she and Dahlia (sp) when Kennedy introduces her show. It is the most inept example of a discussion between two wands of cotton candy attempting to be entertaining.

  8.

Bucknor held his own last year. I don't see a drop off between him and an American DB.

Man, I said this to 17to85 this morning on FB chat and he lit me up. I really thought Bucknor was solid if unspectacular last year. He more than held his own, and I'd have no problem with starting him again this year, if need be. Thought he was a really pleasant surprise last season.

With the new rule changes favoring the receiver, unspectacular DBs will not cut it anymore. It also makes me think that there might be a better chance for us to start 2 Canadians at rec. because of this.
