True. The US justice system is and always has been all about money. If you dont have it off to jail you go. If you do , your sins are forgiven. It's rather ironic that the country that jails more people than any other has a whole segment of their population that are immune.to punishment.
Edit: I just watched " Just Mercy "  and a couple of  Chris Hedges talks on their prison system so I readily admit to having a pretty biased opinion right now.

f’ing Pelosi arguing house and senate members should be allowed to trade because we live in a free market. You can spin it all you want but it doesn’t take any high level of intellectual prowess to know the extreme unfair advantage they have. What was that term again? INSIDER KNOWLEDGE! Gee I wonder why politicians are seen in a bad light.

the only number that really matters to me these days is hospitalizations and ICU admissions (and deaths, obviously...) Daily case counts are basically "everyone" at this point...

For those wondering about 5 to 11 second dose intervals I suggested you go find Dr Reiner’s availability from last week. There is evidence that an 8 week interval will have the greatest overall efficacy. Shortening the interval might have a slight benefit in the short term but overall creates a deficit in protection.

I guess if you believe Covid will be gone forever in a month go for it. My 9 yr old will wait his full 8 weeks.

Okay I have an update to share he's heading home via Stretcher service, he was supposed to stay another couple of days but a bed is needed but he's also well enough to return home anyway so thank god that's over for now

Winnipeg Minor hockey game start up again this week. Let the kids spread amongst themselves for two more weeks until school starts! None of this makes sense to me. At all.

Also, let's shut down schools, but we will see the same kids at hockey 4 times this week. If the announcement comes with no other restrictions I will be dumbfounded.
Sorry...extra sensitive this year. My youngest (grade 3) had his teacher leave after the first week of school for medical leave, had a substitute for a month after that, then split time between the vice principal and music teacher until Christmas, and his new permanent teacher is  finally supposed to start when they go back. Imagine switching teachers for the third time, fully remote, half way through the year. He is suffering for it so far. I need this school year to be over.

I did some checking and you are correct. 30000 on Monday,180000 on Tuesday and over 200000 on Wednesday.
Probably the scariest stat is not the 200000 but the exponential change from Monday to Tuesday.

Pretending any country can isolate let alone a city is ridiculous. You can't keep all " travelers " out because those travelers among other things bring you food, clothing, medicine......all the essentials of life.
One of the reasons this pandemic will be around for years is because we humans have made imaginary borders that the virus ignores. There are impoverished  countries that have %5 vaccination rates. When Omicron is done with us there will be another variant coming along. There are things that would help.
1- countries need to send about to expire vaccines to countries in need. It's millions of doses being thrown out.
2- The patents need to be removed from Covid vaccines.
3- A war needs to be declared against Covid. Put the multi country  joint effort into killing Covid that we put into killing people. Quit viewing this as Canada, USA, UK, or whatever country you live in fighting against Covid.
I'm sure there are other efforts that would help but those 3 are my suggestion.

The latest Manitobans to succumb to #COVID19:
    - A Southern man in his 20s
    - A Southern man in his 30s
    - A Winnipeg man in his 30s
    - A Southern man in his 40s
    - A Southern man in his 50s
    - A Southern woman in her 60s
    - A Southern man in his 60s
    - A Prairie Mtn woman in her 90s
5 out of 8 are under 60. I don't remember seeing numbers like that before.

I cannot find the source of this information, but it appeared credible: even vaccinated patients receiving treatment for cancers have a 300% grater chance of morbidity or mortality than the general population if they contract any of the COVID viruses. Another good reason for these people to rigorously isolate and for others to both wear masks and keep their distances.

The more I think about The Pick to win the Grey Cup, the more in awe I become. When you watch that play, the intelligence, athleticism & timing of that play with Deatrick Nichols deflecting the ball, Winston Rose having the presence of mind tto scoop the ball to Linebacker Kyies Wilson who cradled that ball like a newborn baby was probably a one in 10,000 play kinda thing.
In all my years watching football going back to 1965 & maybe even a bit before, I have never seen anything like that. It was the greatest play I have ever seen. That was our defense working together just like they have all year to win a championship at the most critical time. It wasn't one player making an exceptional play. It was 3 with the help of the other 9.
The Bombers Mike Gray interception on the goal line in the 1988 Grey Cup, Joe Namath guaranteeing a New York Jets win in over the 3 TD favourite Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III. The Immaculate Reception by the Steeler's Franco Harris against the Oakland Raiders in the 1972 AFC Championship Game, Houston Oiler's RB Earl Campbell's exceptional run down the sidelines in 1978 on ABC MNF, Marcus Allen's reverse pivot for a 74 yard TD run in Super Bowl XVIII.  Hamilton Ti Cats Tony Champions outstretched Monster Catch for a TD in the 1989 Grey Cup (considered the greatest play in GC history), Well, move over Tony & everybody else as The Pick is now Number One as I see it.

The James Webb telescope is in space and beginning it's journey, solo, to deep space. A couple of weeks of maneuvers still ahead.
I can't wait to start seeing some images from this telescope. Hubble has brought us so much insight and the Webb will bring us so, so much more.
