  1. Probably the same way he reacted to the other 2 fighters associations that currently exist... with laughter.

Having Bjorn Rebney (former head of Bellator)  involved is scaring a lot of fighters away.  His reputation is not one that is very fighter friendly (just ask Eddie Alvarez).  The fact that there are now 3 competing associations just divides the fighters and makes them easy for the UFC to ignore.  If they were a strong united group it might be different.

  2. But if they already knew he wasn't coming back, why bother?

It could very well be that the club wasn't sold on him but he could have been looking for a better chance to play.  He was the number 4 qb here and didn't come close to seeing the field.  He probably has a much better shot in Regina.

I am totally bummed out losing Bennett ... thought he was part of our future and about ready to step up some this year .... I guess management didn't think enough of to even put him on the IR or 46

He was going to be a free agent (like all our QB's) so maybe it was apparent to the club that he wasn't going to be re-signing.   Having him on the active roster would have meant one less spot for someone who was actually coming back.

So since a few like to rip on Helle and think he's not good. . Let's play a fun little game of who am I.

My first NHL season. I played 41 games and had a .920 save percentage
My Second NHL season over 52 games .905 save %
My  3rd NHL season over 41 games .912 save %

    Who AM I?

For Comparison sake Helle played 26 games last year with a .918 save percentage

This year ... 17 games and a .915 save percentage

Ridiculous. The last thing I want is Burris on my TV crowing about how he single handedly overcame the debilitating knee injury to single handedly win this Grey Cup all by himself. He snapped, blocked, threw, caught and ran....

One upside is that it probably means someone  (Toronto or Saskatchewan?) will have to over pay for his services next season.

It's a barrier, whether people want to label it whining or not the resulting empty seats speak for themselves.

So when attendance was terrible at the old stadium, what was the excuse then?

If you look at the numbers from the late 90's, the attendance sucked worse than they do now and they didn't have to compete with the NHL either.

I think Calgary is already a dynasty. They probably have the most winning seasons since Buono took over in 1990. Just a couple of really down seasons in the mid 2000's & dominant again after John Hufnagel took over. I don't know Grey Cup records but has any team won more Grey Cups from them the past 25 years or more?

Calgary & Toronto have both won 5 of the last 25 cups.  BC, Montreal & Edmonton each have 4 (Montreal's number includes the year Baltimore won).

  8. Given the price they paid, I almost think they are stuck with Willy (at a reduced amount or not).

Can you imagine the reaction here if we traded away the 1st overall pick and then cut the guy we got in return after a couple games?  Then again, Toronto doesn't have any fans, so who would actually care? B)

Do you think Barker made the deal out of desperation to save his job? Or is a real rehab possible... we gave up a first for Khari Jones and that worked out .... maybe Drew is irredeemable ... as to Ricky Ray, Burris has turned out to be better than Collaros in the past two or three seasons .... probably because of injuries but who can forecast that ... a healthy Burris in Hamilton might have meant a cup visit or two for Hamilton ... Ray has been amongst the elite in the league: could Barker know he would turn into glass?

Not a good comparison.  Injury-free back-up looking for a chance to start versus a former starter with injury/performance issues trying to resurrect his career.

How would Barker know that a 37 year old QB would be more susceptible to injury?  Common sense might tell him that or the fact he missed 36 games over 5 seasons would be another indicator that he should probably be planning for the future.  He let 2 guys walk in a 3 year span where Ray was already having health issues.  The fact that he got absolutely nothing for either guy and then completely over-pays for Willy just makes it all so much worse.

Regarding Drew Willy, who has made the biggest mistake .... Walters for signing unproven Drew to a stupid big contract so we had to get rid of him when he faltered ... or Barker for giving up a high draft pick to get Drew as a reclamation project?

Barker all day.  Walters, in hindsight, may have made a mistake but he not only corrected it but he added the 1st overall pick.  Barker paid a high price for a broken QB and now he's stuck with him and that contract.

Did not Barker whip Calgary 35-22 in the 2012 100th Grey Cup?

Did he not dig up that talent to do so?

Has he not (save Ray) done a good job with QBs?

Did he not do well as long as he was the head coach?

Did his troubles not start with Milanovich? (and Ray?)

Does he not know as much as most veteran GM's in the league?

Or is Barker now just old and crodgity?

I'll give him some credit for what he's done.  The Ray trade (along with Drew Tate getting injured) got him the 100th Grey Cup.  One year of success doesn't erase the rest of his career though.

QB's:  Full marks for Collaros.  Barker put him on the neg list and brought him in.  When healthy, Collaros is a great QB.  The book is still out on Harris.  He had a shot to replace Burris and failed... we'll see how he does over the next couple seasons.  His decision to cut those guys loose & stick with Ray has to lose points though.  Same with the decision to over pay for a broken Drew Willy.  2 positives cancelled out by 2 negatives.

He never had a winning record in any of his 4 seasons as a head coach... finishing with a 9-9 record (twice) was a close as he came.  The other 2 seasons he was a combined 11-25.  Milanovich won the Grey Cup as HC, so if he deserves the blame, he also deserves the praise.

He didn't know enough not to trade for Drew Willy... every other GM did.

Barker has done a lot until the last couple of years and it might be the purse strings

Alright, I'll bite.  Define a lot.  Outside the Ray trade, what has he actually done as a GM?  Any points he earned on that fleecing may have been negated by the Willy trade.  Walters bent him over so bad, he probably still can't sit down.

His career record as GM is under .500 in nine seasons with Toronto & Calgary (77-84-1).  In Calgary, his team got worse every season until he was replaced by Huff.  Under his watch in Toronto, they stuck with a broken, aging QB and lost 2 potential replacements as they left for chances to start elsewhere.  Tight purse strings had nothing to do with the fact that they couldn't control their players and had to release the majority of their receiving core.

And you want to bring that here?

Look at the number of cups they've got to show from the last 20 years and how many times they've been in playoffs....

I would take that 20 year record and the choker label every day of the week over what we have done.  Even the years they don't win, they at least have a realistic expectation of being in the hunt for the cup... we can't say the same.
