“I agree to a certain extent, then there’s a certain extent that I don’t agree with. It is what it is, but obviously, we have to have a lens. That’s one of the things I always talk about. Players have to have lenses; coaches do too. We’ve got to do a better job getting our players prepared to win football games. I think we had some adversity last year. I thought we handled it the best way we could, but there’s some things that we need to get better at. And then there’s a reason why some of the guys that were on my staff aren’t coming with me to Ottawa.”
Dinwiddie only brought two coaches with him from Toronto to Ottawa — receivers coach Pete Costanza and quarterbacks coach Drew Tate — choosing to fill the rest of his staff with new faces or incumbents.

“It’s an important piece for game flow, something we talk about every single year. We know there will be fewer stoppages with the automatic 35-second clock, and we need the on-field officials relying less on the replay centre,” he said.
“We are trying to balance, of course, getting the call right with game flow and making sure the game is moving at pace. The expression we use is ‘clear and obvious.’ If there’s an egregious error that’s clear and obvious, let’s have the replay centre step in. But otherwise, it’s the job of the officials on the field to run the game. We’re going to do more research on how we can implement those objectives, and there are future rules committee meetings coming up in the next couple of months where we will discuss again.”

It’s backwards. He was drafted as and started out his career at G. He was in and out of the line up and bounced between g and c. But he played much better at c and was at C most of year and maybe the best C in the league. The previous year he was at g the whole year.
the cats ol prior to last year was pretty bleh and they didn’t run balanced play call. he’s an excellent run blocker and good in pass pro. he’d fit us brilliantly.
I don’t think we will be in the market to pay that though.
Was just basing it on this, which said he couldn't snap so they moved him to G...

No problems here with bringing those boys back. You need some continuity in an OL. As mentioned many times, a quality C is going to make all the difference with this line. Thought the RT was quietly very solid all last year and if the behemoth at LG takes another step in his development, things are looking really good....

He's above average but not someone who is going to be dominate game in and game out. I wouldn't be disappointed if the Bombers signed Sayles, but I wouldn't want to place all my hope in him turning around the DL....if that makes sense.
Tremendous comp. Solid, but not special. If he came cheap enough, I'm fine bringing him to camp, but I'm not going out of my way to pay for a guy like Sayles that we SHOULD be able to find a copy of via recruiting.
IMO, he is definitely NOT in the same conversation as a guy like Jake Ceresna, who you absolutely would break the bank for.

Saying Gavin McKenna under your breath after another loss tends to help a bit.
The problem is.... He's not THAT good. Like, he's a very good hockey player... But he's not the generational talent like McDavid or Crosby. This feels like a waste of a tank year... McKenna isn't even the consensus #1 at this point.

if wed had any success finding rookie dlinemen in the last 4 years i would agree with you. | am hoping that Jenkins or Jaworski turn out to be gems but our track record hasnt been great. I think Sayles is a big ugrade over woods and adams.
I agree with most of what you say but absolutely don't believe Sayles is "a big upgrade" (if at all) over Woods.
...and Adams is gone to Sask.

Apparently Jovon Johnson hired as position coach for the Argos...
From 3DN:
"The Toronto Argonauts are set to hire former CFL standout Jovon Johnson as the team’s defensive backs coach, per sources.
The 42-year-old has spent the last six years coaching at the high school and collegiate levels in the United States, most recently as the special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach at Gannon University."

Yes but it's JAKE THOMAS. JAKE. THOMAS.
Sorry my PTSD kicks in when his name is raised.
Seriously all the best to him, I'm really glad he's staying with the organization and really really happy it's in a non playing role.
Maybe he will move up the ranks like Wade Miller.
One of the pieces I read after his retirement announcement had a quote from someone (maybe Osh?) saying he wouldn't be surprised if Jake is a future CFL GM. Just a really super smart dude.

another thing I've always wondered, do American DL need coaching up to be ready for Canada? Like, do the ends have to play differently on the wider field?
I mean I would personally think so, in that regard... The wider field, the extra man, the motion.... All of that is new and would look strange when watching film. To me, that's where Jake comes in to teach in the film room...

It's not that they aren't important at all. But the way people are talking about Thomas and acting like the DL has no hope now is over the top. The biggest factor to how well the DL will do will be the talent that is or is not on it.
And how JY chooses to implement them. Jake is going to be an X's and O's guy, explaining the CFL game to players who maybe don't know much about it. Apparently Jake is one of the smartest guys when it comes to the film room, so I'm actually intrigued to see what he can do in that regard.
Let's be honest, the Americans, they don't need someone to teach them the basics of playing DL... They probably learned more in NCAA than they would here... But what they could use, is a guy who knows the intricacies of CFL football and can explain what they're seeing on tape... Which I'm sure looks way different with an extra man and motion in the backfield and all that.
It's a basic position coach gig... Way too much stress being used on this.

Game 47 : Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting The Leafs
in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
When it's HNIC Saturday Night and the Leafs are playing, the PBP crew will always be an extension of the Leafs regional crew. As it was, as it is, as it ever shall be.
Whatever... Shove it up their ass with a win.
