I've long felt that the penalty for PI was too severe. Most other penalties are 5-10 yards, with "major infractions" at 15, where in theory the risk of injury is greater. PI, which we all know can be subjective, can be 40+ yards, which seems disproportionately high. Compare this to holding at 10 yds, and I have trouble justifing the difference. People claim that if wasn't for the PI, they could have scored a TD, but my answer is that without the hold, there could have been a 15 yd sack, which also would have been a loss of down, so the penalty doesn't necessarily make up for the play/foul. At the professional level, it is one of the very few "unrestricted" penalties, meaning that instead of going "half the distance" to the goal line, it goes all the way down to the one yard line for a foul in the endzone. Again, this seem disproportionately high. I'd suggest that PI be made 10 yards and an automatic first down (restricted to half the distance when close to goal line) for most of the calls, but perhaps allow the officials to call a "flagerant PI" with the current penalties for the worst occurances. The officials already have the same discretion when it comes to "roughing" calls, there is the garden variety "unnecessary roughness" which is 15 yds (officials refer to this as "UR") but they can also call "rough play" (aka "RP") which is 25 yds and often an ejection. ("RP" in amateur ball is an automatic ejection, and as of 2009, all roughing calls became unrestricted, meaning that the ball can go down to the 1 yd line, rather than 1/2 the distance) I'd worry that dbs would simply take the penalty on every pass over 10 yards if they were getting beaten if you made that change. I think adding the judgement call opens up too much of a gray area where there's is a difference between what is flagrant and what isn't. To me the key is still to get some consistency from the refs. We don't even see that now with the review but if they can ever get that it will be a nice change. I'd also like to see holding get called more often, so many times it's let go for no reason.

Great News for TV viewers: Dunigan doing color Thursday
17to85 replied to Nasty Nate's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Love Dunigan on colour, hate Gord Miller on play by play. If Miller would stop the bullshit trying to add his own colour commentary and just stick to play by play he'd be fine but no he's gotta inject his stupid ******* stories. "Hey Matt, who was the strongest arm you remember in the CFL? NO!!!!! You're wrong! It was this guy that I watched back in nineteendickety two!" -
Denmark had some issues catching with a guy on him but I don't know that we can say he's not doing his job. He's drawn more than a couple pass interference calls, the catches will come, especially I think if Moore starts to draw more attention.

I just can't figure out why the stamps would let the guy go like that... yeah they're a deep team but the way he's played he would make any team better.

Toronto has league worst pass defence, surprised?
17to85 replied to IC Khari's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Looks new faces in that secondary, that shouldn't really be a surprise, plus they've played two of the best teams in the league already in Calgary and Winnipeg, that will skew the stats. -
Zach Collaros has concussion and back injury
17to85 replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Hamilton 2014 = Blue Bombers 2012. At least Lapo was somewhat likeable as a coach. I still think he shouldn't have been fired. The only reason you say that is because of how awful Burke was. They did what they have done so many times in the past 20 years, they fired a coach and hired someone worse to replace him. Ritchie to Daley, Berry to Kelly, Lapo to Burke... Let's not fire O'Shea at the first misstep and maybe we can end that damned drought that makes everyone so crazy. -
Comparative analysis - How bad is the Bombers OL?
17to85 replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I think the Bombers o-line woes are a bit over stated. They may not be the best group but they are capable of doing an adequate job. Teams in the CFL are capable of getting pressure through blitzes, our line fared better than BCs did against that same montreal team. -

Now that's what I call supporting your pick. sp? -
There are a lot of players who are skilled enough but lack a certain element to translate that to the NHL, if they want to continue to play hockey the KHL pays the best. Usually it's the guys with hands but no speed that end up there. Of course there is competition, a lot of north americans like to play in the swiss league because the lifestyle is superior but if they're looking to be paid the best I think the KHL is where it's at.

Because people have accepted that the defense is what it is. It's got vulnerabilities as well as big play capability. They gave up yardage, but made big plays when it counted so it's really the best we can hope for.

Those are: Kovalchuk, Radulov, S.Kostitsyn and Burmistrov. They'll be exceptions as a 'particularly valuable' for the league (2/2) — Igor Eronko (@IgorEronko) July 15, 2014 I would think the criteria is "Could be playing in the NHL but chose to come here and are Russian" Or close enough to Russian in Kostitsyns case.

Sask and especially BC sans Lulay really don't scare me. Saskatchewan is one of those teams that could be stronger later in the season than they are now. They're in the process of trying to break some new people into spots they had pretty good players in last year, you would expect some of their recruits to improve as the year goes on right? And if Chamblins stops being a fool with his running game they'll be a lot better off. They were making progress in both games the last 2 weeks when they were running the ball but then they stopped because of a fumble and it all went to hell on them.

See Burke, Tim. It is clear this season that our coaches are coaching to win and believe in the players being able to make plays. I for one love this change because our last two coaches were passive to the point where no one considered this team dangerous in any way. I too liked the choice to gamble there. In the CFL a yard is pretty automatic and if you make it you keep your offense on the field. Just a case of the players didn't make it, that's no reason to second guess it, there was plenty of time left in the game.

Why people hate cable and internet companies
17to85 replied to kelownabomberfan's topic in General Discussion
The level of entitlement and greed that these companies exhibit is just insane. -
Man Chamblin has lost his mind. God I want to see that team in the crapper this year, that'll learn em to get so arrogant.

No people call out your stupid ideas not the upgrading the OL thing. See Nate you take a well formed idea then turn the stupid up to 11 and then get offended when people call you out on it. -

TSN Off-Season Game Plan: Winnipeg Jets
17to85 replied to The Unknown Poster's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
No it really doesn't. It's just crap being thrown against the wall. -
You think the stamps were in danger of losing to the ticats even with Collaros? The way the Stamps easily handled the argos with all those guys missing I don't give the tabbies much chance here.
-
I said it all last year and lots of people didn't want to listen but if you get better coaches who can bring the right attitude to a team you are way further ahead. That was Joe Macks single biggest failing as a GM, he hired 2 duds at head coach.
-
Well ultimately I think it comes down to which qb makes less mistakes... but you probably just said as much in a different way.
-
The only surprise is that he was actually brought back this year. He doesn't really do anything well enough to justify being anything more than a backup and we seem to have guys who can do that job better.
