I never said he only played one good game. I've also never said he played poorly in the GC. I HAVE said that the last TD pass he made was a great throw.
I laugh at the notion that a team can't go on a win streak without good qb play. Which is something you stated earlier. MTL with basically any other qb on their team is pushing TO for 1st place. Yes even Maier (who I believe was let down more by play calling/offense design than his talent).
Faj was anywhere from pure trash to barely a game manager all year. He definitely showed up in the GC, but again he took what the Bombers D gave him and Hall never adjusted.
Out of all the QBs that finished the year starting....Faj is #8 of 9.
Faj was the #4 QB IMO behind Adams, Collaros, & Kelly.
I laugh at the idea that a team can win 7 straight games with the #8 or #9 QB at the helm.

If we can only keep one, I'd keep Schoen over Brady O. Some team that is lacking in Cdn talent is likely to pay Brady the big bucks to kill two birds with one signing.

It's funny you think this proves your point
And it's funny that you think that it proves the one good game theory.
As long as I'm curmudgeon'ing...
Folks want to believe that the Als couldn't beat us unless Faj-jj had a great game. He threw for under 300 yards, ran for 18 & threw a pick. That's a good, not great game.
Folks want to believe that it was our mistakes, not great defensive plays that lost us the game. Frankly, the pick in the endzone was a terrific defensive play and punching the ball out for the fumble was too.
IMO it was MOS starting players who shouldn't have been on the field that cost us the GC coupled with Montreal out playing us on the day.
-
Faj-JJ was 5th in passing yards and 5th in TD passes & he ran for 340 yards which is 2nd best among QB's last year.
He's a middle of the league QB, not a QB who had 1 good game. I'd take him over Maier who had more throwing yards and TD's but also threw a **** ton of picks.
-
The one good game idea is ridiculous. The Als won 7 straight games to win the cup. The longest winning streak in the league last year. You don't do that with a QB who only has one good game.

I can't image that BOOL wants to stay and I can imagine a few teams wanting him.

Pretend you're Ottawa's GM. Brown and Streveler are available. Which one do you take?

Weird that Meier and Corny and Adams got so much then.
What you’re saying makes sense, TBurg, it just never works like that in real life.
There’s a world out there where Dru signs with Ottawa as the back-up to Masoli and takes a low base with start incentives.
But if Ottawa cuts Masoli and sign Dru with the intention of being their starter, they are going to give him a starting salary.
As I said in my posts Maier and Cornhole had way more starting experience when they got given the starting roles and the big bucks. Brown doesn't have that yet.
Why would any GM pay a player more than they have to?

We can't offer him a shot at a starting role. That is what he needs to be able to get the big bucks in the future. Also, we're not going to pay Collaros 600K + Brown 160K + 3rd String 80K & tie up 840K on our QB's. The extra 80K will go towards Shoen, BO, etc.
-
You don't have to pay Brown starters salary. You have to pay him more than any other team with a starting QB spot available to compete for. IMO, that's Ottawa and maybe Hamilton.
Overpaying a guy who only has a couple of career starts under his belt is a huge gamble, especially if you don't have to pay him that much.

I'm a huge Brady fan, but that would surprise me a lot.
His ask will also be limited by the position he plays. There's a ceiling for RBs.
If he's brought in as a starter, proven or not, the starting salary starts with a 3. Of course, that's not a sure thing at this point.
Adams a top 3 starter last year was @ $285K + bonuses. Brown, a wanna be starter isn't going to get a $300K+ salary.

You think brown only gets 160k? If that's the case no way we lose him. Sadly for you, you're wrong.
We're not keeping him because we don't have the ability to offer him what he really wants and needs... A realistic shot at the starting job.
$160K is double what he's making now & more than any other backup QB on the list. He hasn't started many games. His 2 best games were against 4 win Edmonton and 6 win Calgary.
He's not a starting QB. He's a backup with a ton of up side. He's Arbuckle, not Maier. The only way he gets Cornelius money is if multiple teams see his as 'the guy'.
Masoli & BLM are done IMO. I'd retire Harris too, but the Riders seem to like him for some reason.
Maier and Cornhole are both majorly overpaid for their contributions to their teams, which is what usually happens when you overpay based on the hope they will eventually be worth the money.
Maier started most of 2022 throwing for 2389 yards. Cornelius started most of 2022 and threw for 2768 yards. Brown started 2 games and threw for 983 yards.
Looking at next year's QB's.
Bombers - Collaros
Lions - Adams
Argos - Kelly
Als - Fajardo
Stamps - Maier
Elks - Ford
Riders - Harris
Ticats - ??? - I'd guess BLM/Powell but I'd cut BLM to bring in Brown.
Redblacks - ??? - Best choice for Brown
-
I'd say $160Kish all in. He's started 2 games on a dominant team. He's in Arbuckle territory, not Maier.
-
If Buck goes to Regina Spit Spit then it would be good for Brown to follow him. He'd be the QB with the most experience in Buck's offence.

Hang in there. It took me 7 days to shake my second Covid last week. It took my wife 10 days.

That segment before the game where they literally focused on every player on each team and spewed what amounted to "here is this guy...he is looking to have a great game today...here is another guy who also does things that are good sometimes...". It was cringe.
They should have done a 'Shoresy'... Call out each players name then say 'You ready', 'Your going'.

We were lucky to be up by 10 at the half. They could have kicked the FG at the end of the half for 3. Horrible roughing call gave us a TD instead of a FG. That's 7 of the 10 points we were up right there.
We lost the game because we rostered hurt players instead of backups.
We lost because we allowed FAJ-J to run for 13 yards on a 2nd and 18 then throw a 20 yard pass on 3rd down.
We lost because we called cover zero at the goal to send pressure that hadn't worked the entire game.
We lost because we thought all we had to do was show up and we'd win because we were the better team who'd been there before.

I hated 'Reclaim the Throne'. There's no Throne in football. It should have been 'Reclaim the Cup'.

What was Collaros' excuse for looking like **** vs. Edmonton then?
I'm not making any excuses for Collaros.

I didn't notice any difference in the offense with Brown running it vs. Collaros, and in some cases he ran it better (vs. Edmonton for example)
at 35 going on 36 Collaros is not a sure bet to maintain his play which is already slipping.
When you use Edmonton as an example, you've already lost the argument.

if you also paid attention some of us have said for a while now that Collaros being the best qb in the league is more an indictment of the quality of quarterbacking around the league than it is a true mark in Collaros favour.
Guy can play and win a lot of games, but 3 straight duds in Grey Cups (one an all time defence bailed him out) and a lot of cracks showing up this year means that, to me at least, a $600K on the wrong side of 35 may not be the best investment anymore. If he's going to get happy feet any time he senses pressure even more so.
So it's less of was he the best qb this year, and more will he continue to be?
Best QB in the league is best QB in the league no matter the level of competition.
Collaros has been the best QB in the league for 3 years + a playoffs. Rourke was his only serious competition during that run. You seriously want to can the man because he may not be the best QB in the league next year? I'm glad you're not making the decisions.
