I kinda have my doubts as well, but I think he would have great stats but get hurt, or find ways to lose games.

Agreed.  He would have good numbers but we'd be a .500 football team

In 2015 for the Argos and 2016 for the Redblacks - he played some of his better ball

Yet, a 41 year old Burris had to come off the bench and take over the Redblacks in 2016

yeah...their first and second...the odd 3rd pick u mentioned.....you should nail those and have starters from there...its after that our penchant to draft 1 dimensional guys....and that dimensuon is no real chance of being a contributor outside of teams...we have a glut of that now....but on roster no ral depth behind any starter...Augustine wasnt drafted either.....by anyone actually...was a free agent pick up after the draft by 2 teams before we scooped him off the scrap pile

Yep, I know. Just like pushing back on your hyperbole once in a blue moon.

The player who obviously isnt pro calibre....but.....could contribute on ST is a poor draft strategy....look at past 10 yrs of drafts of the players other teams picked up, that we passed on who contribute as actual producing player, just to grab a guy who jumped out on teams, but offered nothing much more than that....after our first couple high round picks...we have brought in a lot of slugs and plugs....

To a certain extent, sure.  But the Bombers have drafted plenty of good players - some of which were lost in FA or retired:

Oliveira, Augustine, O'Leary Orange, Desjarlais, Eli, Goossen, Chungh, Wolitarsky, Thomas, Dobson, et. al.

Why do I mention that? Noeller just said if Allen can be something then Ford could as well. Right now, there's really no comparison between the passing ability of Ford compared to Allen. What I see from Ford is what I've seen from every running qb who has ever come up to the CFL. A run first mentality. If a couple of receivers are covered he takes off. He doesn't have the time (or perhaps the patience) to go thru his reads because his OL is bad. So, it's not all his fault. However, a problem OL will hinder his development as a qb. Now, Ford may develop into a first rate CFL qb eventually but we'll see. He has a long way to go.

I recall a younger Damon Allen also taking off after his first or second read.

The 'savvy vet' version of Allen played more along the lines of what you describe

He's still learning... I have faith. If Damon Allen can be "something", what I've seen from Tre Ford tells me he can be at least that.

I think that's a good comparison.  Teams put the right pieces around Damon Allen, and won championships with him - even at 42 or whatever it was.

No one asks how you won a championship (unless you're the 2007 Riders).

IIRC, Bond was only starting because Neufeld couldn't stay healthy.  We already had Couture at center and Chungh at the other guard position (we had also signed Jeff Keeping as a FA but he missed the whole season).

Bond did play at a high level for us those 2 seasons but if not for injuries, would he have even seen the field?

My point is, they had the option. I doubt they could have done it without Harris at tailback.  Bond was real brawler in there.

Other teams start American tackles with import backs...I dont recall a full-time starting guard being import with Harris and Bo tho

We don't even need a Canadian back to meet ratio as it is either...we just have chosen to fill that spot with a canadian

Travis Bond - we had 3 Americans on OL when he was starting. IIRC, it was for 1.5 - 2 seasons.

Of course don't 'need' a Canadian back, but it has served us rather well.

I have never liked tying the ratio to a Canadian back to be honest....it requires too much else to make it work...well work seamlessly and it kind of rapes your roster elsewhere...Losing BO is least of my off-season concerns

Well, I like that fact that Canadian RBs have allowed the Bombers to start Americans at Offensive Tackle and even at Guard - that has been a real strength of the team.

    They do. That’s why

It's a fairly recent change, when the newest CBA bumped the minimum to 70k they made the minimum apply to all players regardless of Nationality

"The CFL minimum salary will increase to $70,000 in 2023 and $75,000 in 2027. That minimum will apply to players regardless of roster designation — National, American and Global. Global players were previously limited to contracts of $54,000, lower than the league minimum."
