Root reacted to DR. CFL in How long is Willy's leash?
Harris compiled basically 1/3 of the offensive yardage against Edm. Look for teams to SPY him when designing their defensive packages in the future. It seems apparent shutdown Harris and you shutdown the offence.

Short term is all he'll give you as he's 41. He may only give us a year. Is it worth tying up huge money for a single season? As far as long term recruitment goes look at the Bomber record of qb recruitment. It's brutal & a total failure.

Edmonton gets to turn over their whole freaking coaching staff and hire a rookie head coach and still pulls away from the "stable" Bombers. Bombers coaching staff is "stable" but a stable is also full of manure. At least it wasn't another blowout but it is painfully obvious that Willy can't get it done when it counts.

Do you think Jason Maas is a better head coach than mike Oshea?
I don't think he is but he has mike Reilly. That in itself makes him appear to be s better coach.

Walters need to work on that.
Willy & Medlock for Burris.

Drew Willy has officially lost me.
At this point, he's the problem. No, the OL is not perfect - but they are the best unit we've had in years. No, the receivers are not always making the great catches, but they're a strong group that we could win with. Andrew Harris? Working his tail off.
None of that means anything when Willy is not making the throws he needs to make. He's mentally shattered at this point and you can see it in his actions in the pocket - any time he gets a moment to actually think about a play, he blows it. Ask him to complete a quick three step drop and fire? He's going to be on the money, but you can't do that up and down the field and expect to win football games. He has yet to hit a receiver IN STRIDE over 20 yards this year and we're four games in. He has no touch on the deep ball this year at all. He can't escape even intermediate levels of pressure in the pocket.
He's been absolutely horrible and at this point, for the first time in three years, I'm starting to think of things like "what's it going to take to get James Franklin here?" instead of wondering what we can do to help our franchise QB. We don't have a franchise QB anymore.

Two points from John Hodge in 3down nation.
1. Drew Willy’s play in Thursday night’s 20-16 loss to the Edmonton Eskimos was simply unacceptable. ****Willy fell back into old habits against the Eskimos with sluggish decision-making and errant throws. Willy also continued his frustrating season-long struggle to connect on the long ball, consistently missing targets over twenty yards downfield.
4) O’Shea said after the game that he never considered pulling Willy. It is this type of inexplicable stubbornness that will have O’Shea interviewing for special teams coordinator jobs in five months’ time.

McManus, Miller, Walters and O'Shea really had a hard-on for Willy.
Now, not so much!

Root reacted to Bubba Zanetti in GDT: Edmonton @ Winnipeg
I would agree last year the o-line didnt do Willy any favors but this year theyve been much better. Even Sherritt was quoted today saying this is the best o-line the bombers have had since he's been in the league. Willy is out of excuses.

Root reacted to Bubba Zanetti in GDT: Edmonton @ Winnipeg
Ok, then what do you make of Wylie's comment in training camp that the o-line last year was responsible for less than half of the sacks given up? Is he lying? How many of those sacks were on happy feet, cant go through my reads, hold onto the ball forever Willy? And how many times does Reilly get creamed? Trevor Harris? Durant? Etc? Every QB gets cranked and the good ones shrug it off. Its a bull**** excuse. If you cant take it go sell insurance.

Root reacted to 17to85 in GDT: Edmonton @ Winnipeg
how come we had like 25 yards rushing if the OL isn't a valid excuse?
-
Root reacted to Goalie in GDT: Edmonton @ Winnipeg
Bombers had lots of pressure on Reilly all night really but he used his legs. Willy doesn't.
-
Root reacted to DR. CFL in GDT: Edmonton @ Winnipeg
PS the o line can't run block worth a hoot either.
-
Root reacted to Goalie in GDT: Edmonton @ Winnipeg
The oline excuse is getting tiresome. Willy had time to throw on lots of plays but couldn't execute
-
Root reacted to Ripper in GDT: Edmonton @ Winnipeg
Outside of Chungh (sp), who was bad, the oline gave Willy time enough to do something tonight. Macho was brutal. Leggett was good
-
Root reacted to 17to85 in GDT: Edmonton @ Winnipeg
cause too often in the last few years when he's stepped up he's been pasted cause our OL can't maintain blocks.

Root reacted to Stickem in GDT: Edmonton @ Winnipeg
Definitely Willy can't make the long throws...His short game seems to fall apart at times as well...He's a qb. that looks like he has lost whatever he had and it's time for a change...Cripes we might as well trade for Burris and get someone in here who can deliver...cuz when the chips are down it seems Willy can't.

Milo is too busy pointing to the sky. He'd be up there pointing & they'd run right by him. God is good. God is great except when he misses.

It's really sad that a city the size of Toronto can only put 12-13 k into the stands there is absolutely no excuse for that, unfortunately the CFL has not been perceived to being big time for many years and it looks like they have lost generations of fans

It's called acting. Trying to impress his coaches & teammates that as a kicker he's also a football player. He's a kicker. Noel Prefontaine was a football player. He'd have played linebacker if they'd have asked him.

Root got a reaction from kelownabomberfan in Police officers shot in Dallas
The legendary TV show "Person of Interest" (starring Jim Caviezel & Sarah Shahi) predicted much of this would happen in such a surveillance and government controlled country. CBS never shoulda cancelled that show - one of the few bright lights in a TV world dominated by sloppy reality shows, eating disorders, Dr. Phils and generally bad quality product.

The other station will indeed go hard for it. They're a 24 hour sports station and summer is their obvious weakness. Don't have primary access to the bomber coach by virtue of contractual obligations to CJOB. CJOB only pays heed to bombers for 3 hours of game, mild pre-game and post game, otherwise they barely exist.
TSN1290 could easily absorb bombers 18 games from July thru November. Right now they're over-analyzing every expression and word Mike O'Shea emits - and that's only if Kevin Chevyldayoff doesn't blow his nose and cause a firestorm of analysis.
Only problem is that Bob Irving is heading to 70 - and CJOB doesn't sell enough bomber ads to warrant a full-time road color analyst. The last time 1290 had the bombers they had some really horrid play by play guys (I think Robb Glazier was one). One move I'd like to see is a crew of Doug Brown doing play by play, Walby on color and Westwood & Bauming on the sidelines.
But I suspect Darrin Bauming thinks he's the natural replacement when Irving calls it a day - that's why he's sticking around.
Another guy they could fetch is Derek Taylor from TSN TV. He used to do Bisons ball in CIS and wasn't bad.

Just a reminder, this franchise does have a winning past. If we can't be proud of the present, we can still be proud of it ... we can hope for better days ahead.
