  1. I don't think it makes much diff whether Wade meddles in football ops or keeps selling tickets & advertising. None of the group of Miller, Walters, O'Shea have really distinguished themselves as quality football men. Earnest? Yes! Hard-Working? Probably, although questions now abound on the country club atmosphere during bomber training camp and practices. S So nothing really new here. Lyle Bauer interfered all the time. Miller trained under Bauer. End of very short story!
  2. Total desperation combined with past exasperation make for strange bedfellows.
  3. Jets have a limited number of trader pieces (other than some of the fringe players and so-called starters like Beard... obviously Pavelec, Stuart and a couple others would be wonderful traders but other GMs have something called brain cells so this would never fly. Jets top 3 trade pieces: 1. Jake Trouba - seems to have topped out in terms of progress and starting to regress slightly (alarming at such an early age). His play is marked by an indescribable indifference. But he's the #1 target for other teams - many thinking a change of venue would jumpstart his career. Who can blame them? 2. Toby Enstrom - too small, too timid and too weak. Great in today's monster-based NHL, huh? Toby's weak defensive play always results in extra goals for opponents. I don't think he's tradeable even if he didn't possess a no-trade clause. Jets will just let the string run out on his contract. 3. Ondrej Pavelec - too high paid to be a back-up. And that's his level right now. 4. Nic Petan - Jets might have too many skilled players which shouldn't be a problem but in this case it is. Still young and spunky, hasn't given up hope but how many effective 5'8" forwards are there in the NHL? He could fetch a high draft pick - or even a solid #5 or #6 d-man plus a mid-round pick if the Jets were so inclined. I think they'll let him simmer in the AHL and use him as first skilled forward call up if something happens to a skill guy. 5. Josh Morrissey - the heir apparent for Enstrom. Little bit bigger, slightly more rambunctious than Enstrom but apparently still NOT READY. Other teams might covet his skill set - but he's not gonna fetch an established #2 or #3 guy - but if we can get a good d-man #4 or #5 minutes eater who can protect his own net Morrisey might be a consideration. Would love to package Pavelec with either Petan or Trouba to get rid of Pavelec and his large salary. Might be worth a try for Chevy.
  4. Even the most rigged of executive hires are always lip-loaded with the phrase "extensive due diligence". In the end Walters was a panic hire - the public wouldn't have put up with any more Lyle Bauer, Jim Barker was unavailable, Roy Shivers was long in the tooth, John Murphy was a bit too audacious for the conservative board and Sunderland was just not on the radar. McManus would have been considered but good thing not to hire the guy - appears he's incapable of running a scouting dept., let alone a team.
  5. Walters has turned into the proverbial Silent Joe while O'Shea and Willy fail miserably. Wade Miller is obviously musing about both men's futures - but you can be sure he won't be sending any smoke signals to media until he actually pulls the trigger.
  6. I think the word is sufficiently out if you start jumping and diving for Willy's errant balls - you could easily put your health and career in jeopardy. So if the ball isn't near the bread basket - the receivers have decided to give up on the ball. Not a good sign for the future.
  7. The longer Stubborn Mike hangs in with Willy the easier to gauge O'Shea's level of insanity.
  8. Only way Walter/Miller trade Medlock is when the bombers are pretty much certain to finish up the track = then trade him to a playoff team that needs a reliable/long place-kicker who can make them better! If Walters can get a healthy Burris (Hank's finger is still very swollen) for a dud QB and a near $200k place-kicker - do it! Maybe get a 3rd round draft pick to top it off cuz Burris might have half a season to a season and a half left.
  9. Agreed. Perhaps he's 60 to 65% of the problem. Air-drop an established man like Burris into the equation and he'd have the typical Winnipeg problem of getting to know his teammates, timing, new OC, unemotional head coach, etc. Hank would also take more abuse than Willy cuz he'd try to stretch his scampers by a few yds vs. Willy going into fetal position whenever tacklers enter his limited field of vision. Glenn would be more effective hitting receivers but he'd be mincemeat behind our blocking schemes. Glenn can't run either - he'd be totally abused. Same with Ricky Ray. Ray can sometimes operate with 1.5 to 2 seconds - he'd be a tackling dummy here.
  10. I think it was Arnold Bruce - not Armand. Kudos for the Bobo Brazil reference!
  11. He who live by a sword stubborneth - die quickly despite rusty and unsharp blade!
  12. Burris would be infuriated to be traded to a team with a dud head coach, an incompetent GM and a rather sketchy team president. Well, at least the money is guaranteed!
  13. Desjardins has superior football intelligence to Walters. You think he'd trade a $450k guy who almost won a cup for a dud like Willy? But the thought is intriguing. Willy would have to re-neg. his contract to around $175 to $200k if he wants a shot at staying in the league. Meanwhile, he'll such all the game shecks he can suck - so long as the team is blind to the problem!
  14. Willy doesn't see the field like an ace like Reilly. Reilly is able to bounce off the pressure - and find any or all open guys - seemingly at will.
  15. Willy is no longer a franchise quarterback. He's a $400,000 white elephant. If they were privately owned or had a modicum of oversight the situation would be amended. But they don't. So, for the interim O'Shea's legendary stubbornness rules the day (with his .315 winning percentage)
  16. O'Shea is really veering off the standard excuse path - with some doozies! Meanwhile back at the ranch - Kyle Walters has gone into silent running!
  17. If you listened to O'Shea's post-game comments with Irving - and the gufferaw he was tossing around during the post-game presser he was trying to defend Willy by immediately talking about atrocious officiating. Not a good answer to be had.
  18. A tall, efficient DB covering a dwarf-like WR with average speed, combined with a QB who can't keep the ball out of the gutter - NOT a very enticing situation.
  19. You'll never have a breakaway WR if Willy is terrified of throwing balls over 20 yards. His pocket presence is worse than ever - while Reilly has that intuitive ability to shrug off/elude guys so close he can smell their stench.
  20. Willy has gradually morphed into a $400,000 burn. Other than Stan Bryant - the weakest Eskimo o-lineman is better than any of our guys. Suck Chunks and Goose were getting turnstiled and bull-rushed like there was no tomorrow. Hardick and Neufeld weren't much better - they were first upfield to extend helping hands to Willy after he went fetal. Stubborness is not a solution!
  21. Nobody in Winnipeg likes hearing what you say but its the cold stone truth. Guys like Miller and Walters will talk your ear off about how they've restructured the organization and made things so much better. Lots of empty verse - and in a world governed by results the bombers aren't cutting it. But since they have no oversight (the owner is a 40 year mortage) the current honchos can just keep juggling balls and keeping themselves employed.
  22. So the real betting is on whether the football no-minds in Wpg. decide to can O'Shea and Willy in a package deal or just Willy - or 3rd option JUST O'SHEA. Whatever they do, it won't solve the inherent problem
  23. We're not really talking about top level football minds in Shame-Town are we?
  24. In a proper football organization (governed by results) Willy's number would be up at around game 3 or last nite at the latest. In a market like Sask'n where he was only option (other than rubs) he'd get 6 to 8 games. In an organization governed by discombobulated thinking and the covering up of organizational shame I think they'll extend the leash to 10 or 12 games - the latter if Willy can pull off 1 or 2 career outings in the next four games and 1 or 2 W's - that little ditty always buys inferior personnel (coaches or players) extra games.
  25. You'll have to fight Saskatchewan Corky for that guy!
