I was more surprised they passed on Chubb at #4 than barley at 1....   runningbacks are not nearly as valued in the nfl at qbs these days and they were able to pick the quarterback they wanted.  They filled a positional need at 4 picking cornerback ward. They perhaps should have traded down but with 12 picks they were probably better off just making sure they filled their positional need at corner.   It’s rally irritating that they now take 3 days to do the draft.

I’m surprise that the patriots didn’t take qb Jackson.  I guess they are still laser focused on what the team needs to win the Super Bowl right now. But eventually Tom Brady isn’t going to be around anymore.

Me too. I really like what the Bills did too.  Allen could end up being the best qb in the group.

I like Baker Mayfield. Hes got fire.. Hes a leader and a good QB.. Browns OL coach is Bob Wylie so they should be better. Id have taken Mayfield 1st overall also. Hes a stud. Hes gonna be a star if they let him develop properly and dont rush him.

I'll be paying close attention to the Cleveland Browns in the NFL draft over the next few days. Currently Geoff Gray is a fringe roster player but that could change depending on how many offensive lineman the Browns end up drafting and where they draft them. Typically NFL teams like to carry 9 offensive lineman on the gameday roster and 2 of them tend to be young developmental guys. Geoff Gray will be in a battle to stick as one of the two developmental lineman. If healthy,  tackle Rod Johnson who the team drafted in the 5th round last year would be in line to be one of the two making the roster.  Gray would currently be competing with undrafted free agents Victor Salako and Christian Schneider for that final roster spot. No doubt they will bring in more undrafted free agents this season but the real wildcard here is the fact that the Browns are loaded with 12 picks in this year's draft. They could use a first or 2nd round pick to draft a tackle to compete for the starting job which is currently available but this would have little impact on Gray as it would likely lead to a veteran backup being beat out.  What I'm most interested to see is if they pick any offensive lineman in rounds 4 through 7 who would be very hard to release after having given them signing bonuses and have spent draft picks on them. Typically 20% of picks are used on offensive lineman in the NFL. So the way I see it they pick one in the first two rounds and then 1 or 2 later on in the draft to develop.
In a few days we should have a much better idea of what Gray's realistic chances are of sticking with the Browns this season.  I view this season as a make or break year for him. He needs to make a roster. There's simply too much attrition going on and after failing to crack two rosters so far this could be one of the last opportunities he has to stick it out in the NFL. By next season he'll be 24 and no longer viewed as a developmental project. He'll undoubtedly start being viewed for only what he currently brings to the table. The clock is ticking. I hope he does well but deep down I would love to see him come up here and have a long career for the bombers.

It's football, we'd better be planning that injuries will happen.  At every spot.  That doesn't mean Dyakowski should be signed.  Can we get the same level of play from Couture and save $60,000 in the process?
The way people talk here, it seems like Neufeld is the only player to get injured in his career.  What I remember in 2017 is he started all the games he was asked to when Bond got injured.  Bond, that guy some people still are really hung up on losing.  Does that count as irony?  My recollection is that Goossen and Chungh were the only starters on the Oline to not miss any starts last year, and Chungh was playing pretty injured for a few games.
My point is Neufeld is a forum whipping boy - maybe it's the red hair?  Someone should check if he was a stepchild.  Sometimes it needs to be dialed back to an objective look at reality.  He has missed more games than average for his position.  Has he had more injuries than average or have his injuries just been more severe?  Injury prone?  Just unfortunate?
He's going to get a physical before camp.  The doctors are going to check his knees, for example.  They might be normal knees for an Olineman who has played pro ball for more than 5 years (not great).  They might be in rough shape for an Olineman who has played 5 years (not much life left).  Or they might be in bad shape for an Olineman (will need a lift assist in his house within 20 years).  And unless he doesn't pass his physical, we won't know the results of it.  It could be he has the best set of knees on the team and this "luck of the Irish" isn't a real thing.
And what does any of that have to do with Dyakowski?  Nothing really.  There is still limited space on the roster, and the plans the Bombers have for the players they have been developing may not allow for one more non-starter.  Goossen, Chungh, Neufeld and Couture are on the 44, as well as Bryant and Hardwick.  Foketi as the perpetual healthy scratch.  Spooner on the 1-game IR all year?  6 game?  Back to the PR?  Gray?  Speller?  DraftedOlineman#1?  DraftedOlineman#2?
For that matter, my recollection is also that Dyakowski has had a few injuries of his own during his time in Hamilton.

Did you know someone had the gall to say something nice about Lankford yesterday?  And they didn't even put it in a criticism sandwich?  You know, where you say something bad about his skill level, quickly make a non-committal half-hearted compliment about something he did well, then insult his work ethic.  We might need to take that poster aside and remind him that kind of independent thinking is not going to be well received here.

I think Dyakowski would be worth considering.  Lots of bodies on OL, but as many if not more question marks??
The question of how well they will perform with Bond missing from what was a lockdown left side remains to seen.  But all things considered, they really couldn't afford to start an American at guard again.

They said in the radio just now that Quentin Gause is the early favourite to win the job at middle linebacker. He’s a physical phreak,  shows good speed and is a good character and a academic. He is a bit short for the nfl at 6 foot tall but shows a good vertical. He spent he last two years on NFL practice rosters.

I was there today in the morning, but it was hard to come away with much info. Everybody looked roughly the same at the start. I had read Tait's preview article before going so I must admit that I focused more on some of those guys.
Out of the new QBs, I thought Philip Nelson was the best. In the 7 on 7s he started with a ball in the turf on a short out to an RB, but then was on fire after that. Had a huge completion down the middle to a WR that had everyone excited. Nelson himself was fist-pumping after that one. Had some nice deep ball throws too.
Lankford had a nice deep catch and beat some of the new CBs pretty handily with his speed. Washington reeled in a few short tosses. The surprise of the day for me was watching Wolitarsky more. His routes were excellent, leading to a bunch of crisp catches.
I couldn't pick out much from the new DBs. Plenty still learning the game and rules, so there were a lot of receiver wins in the one-on-ones.
