  2. Rogers seems to hate the CFL (based on the reporting that I've seen on SportsNet in the past), so I would question if they would ever be interested in the broadcast rights anyway. TSN is really the only game in town unless either CBC decides to take up sports broadcasting again or one of the streaming platforms comes knocking because they want to get into it like Prime did with the NHL.

  6. Just got my Banjo Bowl tickets. I'm having toe surgery on July 8th. No weight bearing for 6 weeks so this is cutting it close. If I can't go then I'll let you guys know & I'll sell my 2 seats at face value here. Who was JJ Taylor?
  7. If the Whitecaps leave Vancouver that'll help attendance for the Lions.

  10. Point is the earlier you move the season up the more you're competing with the Jays when people are most likely to be engaged at scale....before they are out of the race and hope is eternal (April-June), or when they are in the playoffs if they are (October). Blue Jays Baseball is the most hyped sports property in this country. The name of the game is GROWTH because 7 of 9 franchises are routinely unprofitable. How does the CFL engage media partners to get close to that level of hype, and not just be scraps? The other issue with the Jays is the engagement of Rogers. Who exactly do we think is interested in producing and broadcasting CFL games? How does the CFL get more revenue for their product? There's two companies that have the infrastructure and potential willingness, Rogers and Bell. This time of year Rogers is flooded with Jays, NHL playoffs and NBA playoffs. Bell only has some NBA. So how could Rogers possibly engage on broadcasting and hyping CFL if it started in 2-3 weeks? Is the CFL looking to be random timeslot filler? There's also a plausible scenario where the Argos could be playing on the same day as the other 3 teams both spring and fall. And TFC too. I don't see how this plan makes them less of an afterthought, and the CFL less of an afterthought in the GTA. League should be working to have as many games between July-end of September as possible. Having the start of the season clashing so much with every other sport is not ideal, even disregarding potential for less than desirable weather in May-June when a slightly cool temp, rain and wind together can be bone chilling far worse than Sept-November.

  12. Our entire season goes up against MLB, and outside of Toronto this isn't a particularly big threat to CFL ratings. NHL playoffs are though, both TV and the gate. I like an earlier start to the season, but only if it were to result in an October Grey Cup. This won't. I don't really care about the playoff format one way or the other, but I have always thought the East/West seperate playoffs until the final was dumb as some weak teams got in while better teams (mostly in the West) were not in. I like that this could allow for a Saskatchewan/Winnipeg Grey Cup. Im not sure the league would love that tho.

  15. The issue for the flailing markets is they don't have revenue to meet the expenses of playing a 18 game season. This changes nothing for the in-market revenues. More opportunity for playoff gate....but in the struggling markets they often lose money on playoff games. Road teams lose incredible amounts on playoff games. So coin flip year to year, market to market on those producing positive cash flows. IMO this whole thing (including rule/field changes) is a desperate attempt to position the CFL as a more valuable TV property. But unless they can get Rogers seriously interested and keep Bell/TSN engaged there's a pretty serious cap on that. Canadian broadcasters have been taking a bath on producing pro sports and are getting out of the business of doing so as much as possible. Moving the season up to conflict with NHL/NBA playoffs, and potentially more with Blue Jays early season/late season isn't desirable for Rogers.
  16. Could you imagine if you were playing in the finals and like...your QB fumbled the ball and while jumping on it snapped his arm? That would suck. Or maybe your MVP Caliber QB scrambles around and ends up shattering his leg in the East finals...like that would be horrible. The story lines around those things happening would be boring as hell.
  17. You gotta think Quebec City. It just makes 2 much sense. Then a team in the maritmes and the only place west would be Victoria cuz Sask ain’t allowing Saskatoon.
  18. Some the bottom dwellers tho now will have a possible thing to play for as opposed to before late in season when they were long out of it....seeding and a possible home playoff game....gaining them some extra revenue they wouldn't have got before, and in the end of the day it's about making money, and any extra games a team gets...will make them money Same with top team in each division...possibly the 2 teams have similar records and will want to be playing to win right thru game 18 to be top seed in league and get that home field advantage throughout the playoffs...Imagine the money we here could make by hosting 2 home playoff games?...any team for that matter As for attendance....teams generally rely and budget based on season ticket sales for most part, and whether its game 1...game 7...game 18 that revenue is already in their pocket so if fans in some instances tend to stay away late in the season (which happens already anyway) it's a moot point...and in a lot of instances walk up crowds shrink a bit due to weather not as appealing so possibly the earlier start alleviates part of that....guess we have to wait and see. Now would this work better with a 10th team...for sure...is it such a bad thing without...only of one chooses to just look and the con's and ignore the pro's. Players get more earning power...teams have ability to make extra revenue that would have never happened before, and league pulls on more sponsorship/advertisement dollars from the extra games....The CFL has been stagnate for decades with what and how they did things, and changes were needed, and some are occurring and need to be done...I sure we wont like them all, and some will love....but this decision too was voted on and approved by all involved...not just force fed by the Commish and his personal agenda. More football in my opinion is a good thing....and sure be a bonus if you were in first all yr....Had QB 1 go down early in the WF/EF and u had to use an unprepared and unplanned backup and lose due to that and be out on your ass, but get a week to prep and prepare with backup and get a second legit chance to get to the Cup
  19. Wild eliminate the stars. Ducks take out McDavid and the oilers.
  20. Expected to miss camp so prob starts with the moose to get up to speed. Sucks for him and the Jets as he’s ready. Need more Salo type D men. Big fast smart.
  21. Each market is different. Until teams realize that then nothing changes. I don’t know what other places do to promote the teams to the locals but here in Winnipeg it’s bombers and jets basically 24 7. CFL can make all the changes they want, some will work, some will fail, people will always complain but in the end, football is gonna be non contact pulling a flag out of a guys ass cheek one day so extra games or play ins like the nba and AFL (Australia) do is fun. I think weather tho is way more unpredictable in April may than November tho. And competing with Stanley cup playoffs is just dumb. Honestly they play outside in Green Bay and buffalo (rip outside bills games) in January. Why is November a big deal. We are Canada. We should be embracing the weather later in the year. Bombers were a disaster 15 years ago.. now they making nhl team profits. CFL didn’t help with that. Wade and the local community made it happen. That needs to happen every where else. BC dude is trying. Schedules and gimmicks and whatever else are all fine temporary solutions but how do you fix the Toronto still only drawing 10k people thing. Start with owners who care. Teams owned by big corporations don’t do well it seems. I was a young boy with no chest hair but I vaguely remember John candy owning the Argos. Dude cared and that made the people care. MLSE don’t care. Calgary owner? Doesn’t care.
  22. yes, complete with rocket booster
  23. What does everybody want? What does everybody need? What does everybody love??? Head Head Head Head Leif Cassidy aka Avatar before the movie aka Al Snow aka possibly Shinobi aka on the OVW Netflix series now.
  24. Jets win The TSN Mock draft lottery lol.

  26. The playoff format, while stupid, will not be as big of an issue as the 18 game season will remain to be. Any given season quite likely that almost 1/5 of regular season games will basically be meaningless in September and October for playoff positioning. The league is too small and the season too long to make this format work. So they can celebrate having more playoff games, but they will be playing a bunch of games with no stakes, lowered TV ratings and struggle to sell tickets depending on the market.
  27. You're right, 4 games to eliminate 2 teams.
  28. So much for Taylor. And Dooley means 12 import OL now lol.
  29. Round one eliminates 2 teams. The losers of the 5v8 and 6v7 match ups.
  30. In the current system you might play the same team 3 times in the regular season, 1 in the preseason, and 1 in the playoffs. Now it could be 2 in the playoffs. That's exacerbating an already bad situation. An 18-game season to eliminate 1 team is dumber than an 18-game season to eliminate 3 teams. Round 1 doesn't eliminate any teams. Think of it as an extra regular-season game, because playoff games should always be win or go home. Teams 1-6 get a home playoff game either in the first round or the 2nd. Teams 7-8 get an away game. Team 9 is a goner.
  31. Just to visualize the new play off structure I looked at last year's standings. Bold are winner picked based on what happened or a guess for the new games. 1st round: Divisions showdowns, 1v2 in each division: BC @ Sask, Montreal @ Ham Play-ins, 5v8, 6v7: Tor @ Cal, Edm @ Wpg 2nd round: Elimination games: Cal @ BC, Wpg @ Ham 3rd Round: Grey Cup Semi-Finals: BC @ Sask, Ham @ Montreal (don't know who had the tie-breaker between BC and Ham, lower seed plays Sask, higher play Mon) CUP: Sask vs Montreal West DivisionRK TEAM GP W L T PTS F A HOME AWAY DIV 1 SASKATCHEWAN y 18 12 6 0 24 472 409 6-3-0 6-3-0 5-5-0 2 BC x 18 11 7 0 22 559 499 6-3-0 5-4-0 6-4-0 3 CALGARY x 18 11 7 0 22 488 416 6-3-0 5-4-0 7-3-0 4 WINNIPEG c 18 10 8 0 20 459 424 7-2-0 3-6-0 4-6-0 5 EDMONTON 18 7 11 0 14 422 490 5-4-0 2-7-0 3-7-0 East DivisionRK TEAM GP W L T PTS F A HOME AWAY DIV 1 HAMILTON y 18 11 7 0 22 525 496 5-4-0 6-3-0 7-1-0 2 MONTREAL x 18 10 8 0 20 445 430 4-5-0 6-3-0 6-2-0 3 TORONTO 18 5 13 0 10 497 583 3-6-0 2-7-0 2-6-0 4 OTTAWA 18 4 14 0 8 417 537 2-7-0 2-7-0 1-7-0
  32. I'm guess this is why Ottawa had no interest in moving their #1 pick. Ottawa Redblacks' starting centre Peter Godber retires from CFL - 3DownNation
