  3. lol the first one in the early 90's. Mike said they were bouncing checks on the coaching staff (amongst other things) so he called up one of his contacts down south and eventually started scouting for the Chiefs.
  4. ......yeah ...the bet must have included standing under a pigeons nest and not moving until the bird did his predictable droppings thing...
  5. Hes a brilliant pick up for us. Especially next to lawson. We need another guy inside to rotate, but the interior is gonna be beastly. That will for sure make it much easier for the edge guys to excel.

  7. But what do you mean by "turn a profit"? Are you only referring to what the team makes through ticket sales, food, merch? Or are you including TV deal, gambling and league advertising revenue? No, the new moves will not improve attendance. But they will inject new moey into the league which is distributed to teams regardless of high or low attendance.

  9. Hoping that with the addition of Ceresna that it really takes the pressure off the other guys on the line. Our interior has been so weak lately I bet it makes it that much more difficult to contain. But I'm no expert.

  11. The teams with good attendance are the ones turning a profit. IMO, they are gambling on the revenue streams you mention - and hoping they'll be the new difference makers
  12. Which glieberman era? lol Yeah, I was excited to see more of him. We certainly need to keep getting after DL to bring in for camp now. We've got 6 end only guys on the roster, 4 of whom are under 250 lbs an by a decent margin under. We also have 1-2 guys are are possible edge/3t tweeners. Dixon is a guy to watch at edge, he played a couple games in the NFL and stuck around the pr down there for 2 years. And we still have jenkins who got into the same game last year and was solid. Other wise, we are not only thin on the edge, we are green. Really don't want to see Ayers as the DE again
  13. the thing I want to know: what clubhouse bet did Vega lose to end up modelling those abortions?
  14. I thought Jaworski was going to be our guy opposite Willie. That sucks.
  15. Toronto unfortunately will never turn a profit no matter what the CFL does. These moves weren't made to get them out of red ink. They just don't support the CFL there. Too bush for the centre of the universe. Corporate support will never happen because any business clients would be insulted by Argo tickets at BMO instead of Leafs/Raptors/Jays.
  16. Ya I thought I remembered reading a stat a few years back about how, despite their attendance figures, the Argos games on TSN actually had big audience numbers. People in the GTA watch the games, they just don't go to them...
  17. Attendance is not the only factor anymore. Play-off games have double the TV audience, Ad revenues sold by the league instead of the teams, additional gambling revenue (which is where all the new money is coming from). All of this will affect the TV deal which is currently being negotiated. I don't think the league cares if people buy tickets or not for the additional games. It's not why these moves are being made.
  18. And more cost. Toronto could play 100 games. They will just lose more money.
  19. Yep, would have been almost exactly that long ago. His oldest son, Mike, did briefly coach with Ottawa (during the Gliberman era) but moved on to scouting in the NFL where he stayed for almost 20 years with various teams. Not sure if any of his other kids got involved with football.
  20. Extra games equates to more attendance and bigger tv revenues by default really. Will it grow the game to a new demographic? Doubtful....but that's been the problem since the 90's.
  21. Crusty Cal was born in 1932 so if he did have children involved in football at the CFL level, we'd have seen them 30 or more years ago.
  22. IMO: not as ugly in retrospect
  23. They had 9 shots all game and won. The year of the Habs is real. Both goals went in off Tampa players also.
  24. Those of us old-timers around here remember the Ray Jauch era for the Bombers in the period 1978-1982 - which was special for me as that was when I really started following Bombers in elementary school, so though I have vague memories of Bud Riley, it was Ray Jauch who was the first coach I ever really remember. The Bombers had moderate success in those days with Dieter as QB but of course we always ended up against the Eskimos so it was hard to break through that wall. Good to see the next generation of Bomber family continuing the tradition. Does Cal Murphy have any kids we could hire? Cal will always be my favorite coach/GM.
  25. These uniforms lasted 1 game :D
  26. Yeah totally sucks - my mom's maiden name is Jaworska (female version of Jaworski) and I was hoping he would become a starter so I could get her a jersey, as I know she would have loved it. Oh well.
  27. Yesterday
  28. Now when Canadians are as patriotic as they have ever been would be a good time for a fun marketing campaign regarding the CFL. Lego video of cfl teams. Man they missing the boat here. I can see the commercial I just can’t put it together and trust me the kids would love it. Now is the time with I AM CANADIAN actually mattering again. Heck have that dude narrate it. I’m unsure but use people like beiber and reynolds and gosling to promote it even. Gosling is like the most popular actor around. He’s a ******* Canadian. Use him. Change rules or whatever else, that’s a fun original XFL gimmick but you gotta promote the damn league.
  29. These changes are 'experimental' at best...Only implementing them and a close examination of how things progressed or regressed will give the true picture of success or failure....I'm sure after the 27' season, changes can be made yet again ...The changes that are going to be under scrutiny and deemed to be 'failing' will either be altered or discarded ...Seems to me we will be entering a new phase in CFL operations ..Successful or not fans will have to get used to adjusting to these changes ....I've been around the league for a long time and found that 'major change' is very hard to accept for some.... I'm predicting this may very will be a 'make it' or 'break it' for the league.... time will tell...I just hope to hell the powers that be no what they're doing
