Jets Prospects

Kyle Connor has 48 point in 27 games an average of 1.7787 points per game .

Dylan Larkin had 47 points in 35 games for the same team last year for an average of 1.343 points per game .

Jack Eichel had 71 points in 40 games in his last year of college for  an average of 1.775 points per game .

I see Connor making the team in the fall and actually signing in March and getting a couple of weeks on the Jets roster at the end of the season.

I am hoping to see Connor on one wing with Wheeler or Ehlers or Armia on the other wing with Scheif or Matthews at center.

Going forward... Connor Scheif Wheeler Armia Ehlers and Matthews/Laine/Puljujärvi look like a pretty solid top 6 for a few years.

Lemieux, Roslovic, Petan, Copp, Lowry, Harkins, De Leo,  Lipon, and Spacek will be fighting for roster spots sooner or later.

We have Comrie and Helle and Phillips for depth in goal and look to be set for some time.

Our D, on the other hand, needs some help on the depth. Besides Morrissey, there isn't much coming up the pike on the left hand side and I fully expect the Jets to take some LHD at this draft or trade for one by this time next year. There is Sami Niku and not much else. The RHD right now is very good but not a great deal coming up the pike. Hopefully Kostalek makes the team in at least a 3rd pairing position and hopefully Glover and/or Poolman and/or Nogier turn out.

Can someone explain how its more then the max for a rookie?

It's not, It's an ELC... it's more than likely negotiated in the CBA, I'd suspect most guys who sign their ELC's now are getting paid the same amount... Yeah it's more than Scheif made his first 3 years and more than Trouba and Copp and Lowry and Ehlers but Ehlers made more than those guys did too, It's just what it is. It's irrelevant tho.

No need to worry about it at all. In a few years that 1.77 is gonna look like peanuts.

Includes potential bonuses.

Yep, the salary will be around 900k annually.  This isn't negotiable.    Bonuses can be 10%  (bonuses are just part of the salary paid up front).

The rest is bonuses.

Looking forward to watching him in Penticton this fall.  I hope the Jets don't pull an Oilers/McDavid and only dress him for one game.  That would be crappy.

KBF: That Penticton tournament while a good thing, shouldn't be taken as something overly serious. It's really just to get the guys feet wet, Connor will just be learning to play the PRO game, keep in mind, these guys have very little practice time together and it's their really first time skating as a "team" all summer. Kid is gonna be a good one tho.

Ehlers made the Jets straight out of camp and started the season in the Jets top-nine. He spent much of his time playing with the Jets best and put up an impressive 1.5 points per 60 minutes of 5v5 icetime. He didn't always get to play with the Jets best, however, and sometimes was stuck with noted anchor Chris Thorburn. In ~200 5v5 minutes Ehlers put up only 2 points while with Thorburn, and many wrongfully were suggesting other teams were figuring Ehlers out. His point pace away from Thorburn was an even more impressive 1.7 points per 60 minute pace.

Let's hope Connor doesn't end up on a line with Thorbs this year.  Actually, I hope Thorbs is no longer on the team next year. Time for Lemieux or Lipon to step up.

Connor - Little - Stafford ?

Very surprised that he signed thought he might go back for another year at Michigan but happy he turned poor, also he might start on the 2nd line but more probably will start on the 3rd line, don't worry about Thorburn, if his is on the team he will be on the 4th line as we gather more talent he gets pushed further down the pecking order, eventually i see Connor playing with Matty P and Little.

If that's your definition of poor then I'm coming over later to hang out at your place!  Make sure the scotch isn't younger than 18 years, would you old chap?

meant pro sometimes i don't read what i'm typing:lol:

yeah I know what you meant. :)

Elhers-Scheifele-Wheeler

Connor-Little-Stafford (Perreault?)

Perrault on the third line seems like a waste, but Perrault and Dano had some good chemistry.

I think Perreault was signed to be 3C was better than expected as a winger.

Ehlers Scheifele Wheeler

Perreault Little Stafford

Connor Copp Armia

Dano Lowry Thorburn/Burmi

Connor Scheif Wheeler

Perreault Little Ehlers

That's better

Ehlers and Little actually put up good numbers when they played together.

No love for Petan or Lemieux?  I thought Petan and Copp had some good chemistry.  I thought Perrault and Dano had some good chemistry too.  Ehlers seemed to have good chemistry with everybody he played with, other than players whose names rhymed with Borburn.

So hard to predict because of the amount of bodies that will be competing.  Plus you have Chevy saying he will be looking into free agency as an option.  Could be very competitive in training camp and then that leads to waivers and potential trades to ship guys out.

Ya, methinks the Moose will be a better team next year.

Chevy siad if there is a Perreault-like player available, they would be interested but I don't think Chevy will be trading for any top 6 help to be honest.

Lemieux has to beat out Thorburn and Thorbs is a PaMa favorite.

Prior to so many of our forwards being violently murdered, Thorburn was averaging about 9-1/2 minutes of ice time per game - 10th most among Jets forwards.  Obviously that average went up as the body count did, but the narrative that he gets 3rd line minutes is false.  Sometimes he does appear on the 3rd line, sometimes he doesn't.

Lunchbucket guys usually don't last forever, but for them to lose a job the guys with more skill have to be willing to work just as hard, and for an unskilled (relatively) player to get to the NHL, he has to set a standard for hard work that is very high.  Thorburn as a Paul Maurice favourite?  That might feel true, but it has yet to be put to the test.
