I'll preface this thread by saying, I am not complaining at all about the win tonight.  Beating Saskatchewan is the best thing in the world no matter  how it was done.  We rarely win in Regina and this is a happy occasion.

 

Do not get me wrong at all, it was a great game, our offense was fantastic, Drew Willy played exceptional, Paris Cotton is a beast, Nick Moore is back and better than before, Clarence Denmark is a warrior.  And screw the Bellefeuille haters, he outdid Chapdelaine this game.

 

 

 

 

But......

 

Richie Hall's defense was not looking good out there.  Lots of plays where guys were out of position, vanilla playcalling, getting gashed in the run, thank god Adams came up with that pick on that one throw or we might really have gotten in trouble.  A little surprised too that the Riders didn't go for it on 3rd and short when they were on their last possession and punted it there even though I know Messam got a bit whacked there.

 

It was a good game but this defense had better not be getting gashed like that week in and week out.  Hall was hired to fix it and fix the run and so far, he almost looks worse than Etcheverry.  I'm gonna enjoy the win for the time being but we can't afford that in Hamilton next week or late in the season.

Willing to give them some time to sort it out. Secondary made plays, DL needs to be better. LBs average, which is better than I expected.

Johnny Adams was great tonight the pick then ripping the ball out of Richardsons hands was clutch.

I do hope Westerman starts showing up a little more.

He has some adjustments, and likely conditioning to sort out, but he is expected to be a play maker.

He has some adjustments, and likely conditioning to sort out, but he is expected to be a play maker.

I actually saw glimpses of Westerman getting at the QB only to be held up or arriving just too late. He has really good jump off the snap. Not giving up on him yet. But I would like to see more rotation on the line as well. And would kind of like seeing Kashawn Fraser on the roster.

I thought our blitz timing was off. The lanes to the qb were there. We just weren't hitting them early enough, by the time our lb got to the qb the ball was gone. Hopeful it's just a timing/execution issue. Those are fixable.

It was driving me crazy hearing the announcers just swooning over Messam. The guy has a huge lane with nobody in front of him for yards and he's all of a sudden a top 10 player in the league. Give me a break

He definitely has to get pressure. I don't need 20 sacks, but he should be winning 1 on 1s

I think the shorter play clock is a big thing to adjust to.

On the long TD pass he was blitzing along with Hurl, cover 0 and Durant read it pre-snap.  Randle was playing Smith inside shade and Smith broke outside deep, no chance for Randle to cover him with no help over the top.  Bigger problem with that play was how ineffective that blitz was, didn't even force Durant to move the launch point to give the DB's a chance to make a play.

Probably gave up 150 plus yards on 3 or 4 plays

If they're going to run Cotton like that they need to spell him a bit more as well.  Marshall can handle the slack.

Ritchie will be just fine IF we can find somebody on the ends who can put pressure on the qb....Didn't see enough of that tonight...Coaches better take a good look and if corrected...this team looks bloody dangerous..

IDK. I'd take Halls conventional vanilla D and a huge W over Etchs non conventional D and a huge L.....I think Halls D will only get better.

The D is concerning, especially the front 7. Hurl looked invisible.

Give me Maurice Leggett at Safety and Henoc Muamba or Ian Wild at linebacker and I think this defense is perfectly fine.

I would stick to mostly run blitzes for Hurl.

Didn't see much of Sherman/Newman/Waggoner on D.  Hope that shifts.  We could hedge our bet on Hurl and spread the snaps around if we shift that NI spot more to WIL.  Hurl on first down, one of the others in dime.

Dumb question from me. Why is Hall not a field level ? I think coaches should be down amongst their players. Having said that ,I truly believe the breakdowns we had are fixable.
