  • very good move by Walters, he is earning his stripes as a G.M. He has a good handle on the Salary cap management and has it set up to retain core guys longterm, creating stability.   We just secured

Loved Cory Watson when he was on the field .. epitomized the way this game should be played .. best of luck to Cory going forward.   That said .. I think we made out like bandits in this trade.

Watson has missed 20 games out of 54 the past few years and has missed at least a third of the season each year. That doesn't include the games he was hurt in and left or didn't produce in. He appears to be a guy who is chronically injured. What are the docs in Regina going to do that wasn't done in Winnipeg? Have the Riders been better at rehabbing players?

Your post sums the trade up pretty good. I'm wondering the very same thing. Watson is not going to magically be better now, although now that he is a rider I'm really hoping he will be. I think we can all agree that Watson has some game when healthy. Seriously questioning if it will ever happen however.

Watson has game when healthy, I just question the when healthy part.

Watson was very good, its just that his parts are not held together ery well.

Good trade for both teams. Watson if healthy can be a ratio beaker, it'll be interesting to see how he does with a change of scenery & new physiotherapists. It will also be interesting to see how the Bombers use those pics.

I wasn't aware out west they have physiotherapists with magical skills that the ones in Winnipeg don't have....

Not sure if this is a Matrix or Viagra reference...

Rob Bagg for example went from being chronically injured to being the only starting receiver to start every game last year. If the Riders can get 13-14 games out of Watson I think they'll be happy.

If this actually happens I will be very angry, and also wonder if the Winnipeg training staff all got their degrees via online universities based in Aruba.

Very little chance of it happening. Every year the same injury, every year more and more time missed. His hammy is getting worse not better. 3 years we waited for a healthy Cory Watson....that is ample time to decidedly say that him playing a full season is a very slim chance.

Does anyone know who the neg list player is, that Bombers got as part of this trade? And is there anyone notable on our neg list, that Bombers are actually likely to land?

The club said they would not name the neg list player in the Watson deal until/if he signs with us.

What do you consider notable?

I read a recent article that said the Bombers neg list is heavy on american offensive tackles.

I guess by 'notable' I mean a player who was at one time a highly-touted NFL prospect, or maybe had some time in The League, but who might end up in CFL for a variety of reasons.

You know, it was reported the Als had Tim Tebow on their neg list at one point last year or before, and Chad Johnson obviously was on their list, since he was eventually signed.

It seems possible, probable, that the Bombers might have a recognizable name or two on their neg list. But whether they could actually land such a player, or would want to, is another matter.

So that is my question: who is the player in the Watson deal .... and beyond that who is on Bombers neg list that might be worth discussing.

Arizona 3rd string QB on their neg list no? Believe it's Arizona

Logan Thomas.

Although he was their 3rd string most of the season, they didn't trust him enough to hand the team over to him when Palmer and Stanton went down.  Brought back Ryan Lindley instead, one of their training camp cuts.  Which doesn't say much one way or another when it comes to a QB's potential in the CFL.

@PentonKirk: @ice_matty35 @BomberJetsTalk I've heard it's a guy named Donovan Bonner.

At 6.1 245 he will be a DE in the CFL.

Apparently some websites have him listed at 235 lbs. And just FYI, Bear Woods is listed at 245 and is one of the best CFL MLB's. My guess is Bonner is being brought in as a MLB.

If we sign him. Which I hope we do.

Bonner's scouting report:

Donovan Bonner

School: Missouri

Position: OLB

Positive: Moved into the starting role as a senior, then totaled a career-best 62 tackles. Relatively athletic linebacker who shows ability in pursuit. Scrapes well laterally, displays a good head for the ball in and a solid open-field tackler. Gets outside the numbers to make plays. Effective in space and squares into tackles. Remains disciplined with assignments.

Negative: Average skill in pursuit. Does not have a big body of work on the college level. Size/speed numbers limits the available schemes he can play in.

Analysis: Bonner was a solid linebacker whose game took off last season. He flashes athleticism and shows good skill defending the run and could find a backup role on the inside of a 3-4 alignment.

I'm calling him DonBon...

For anyone wanting to keep score on this trade

I wonder if he's the guy we dropped in order to add Jordan Reaves.

I would be surprised if they dropped anyone they believed had a legitimate interest in being here in order to add Jordan Reaves. Bombers dropping Bonner just lends itself well to showing just how fluid the negotiation lists are in the CFL. At this time of year, it wouldn't surprise me if the Bombers were making multiple changes to their negotiation list every day.

I agree that changes are made daily but we are talking about a guy that was part of a trade.

Alex Brink was part of a trade...
