CFL Week 3 Winnipeg vs Montreal Preview

With the conclusion of this last week, we now embark on the road to play one of our good old former east rivals, the Alouettes.

On paper, our team should be able to finish em off quickly, clearly we know who the better QB and better offense is in general coming into this game.  But matchups aren't won on paper.

That being said, even though Montreal's offense is anemic, their defense has been pretty good.  BC is looking bad this year sure, but that Montreal defense was holding the Stampeders' potent offense in check most of that game too.  Apart from that one bomb caught by Mo Price, that Calgary offense was having trouble moving the ball and sustaining drives, so this Als defense is nothing to take lightly.  Plus the injury to greaves is concern for us.  I'd expect the Als to attempt more rips and stunts again this week up front and we're going to have to be ready for those.

In the end I think we'll win this but I don't see it being another offense shoot the lights out game.

I've got:

Winnipeg 25

Montreal  19

Willy is going to penetrate the Als D with deep and powerful thrusts all night long, leading to victory.

You also have to remember, the team that scores the most points by the end of the game has a better chance of winning. - Chris Schultz

Howard is already on the 46 could add another International to the roster.

Cordaro Howard taking first team reps at LG again this morning #bn

Howard would need the reps, even if they are planning to start Swistun against Montreal. Swistun probably knows the timing and calls, but Howard needs to ready in case Swistun comes into contact with a particularly sharp piece of bread.

Didier Orméjuste @DidierRDS

Did Sean Whyte lose his job? Nick Boyd is handling the kicking duties at practice. #Alouettes #CFL

Could be Alex Suber Should be Bryant Turner

But then IF Zach Anderson is nicked, we need another Int'l to go to the 46. So yeah, it could be Alex Suber. ;)

Continuity-wise, Alexander starts @ Safety (IF Howard starts @ LG) makes sense. 1 change in O and 1 change in D.

Herb Zurkowsky @HerbZurkowsky1

#Als' QB Troy Smith's practising and taking first-team reps.

Guess we don't have to worry about facing Brink...

Kirk Penton @PentonKirk

Aaron Kelly getting medical attention on the sideline, so Brett Carter among starters.

This could be the opening Romby Bryant needs.

hmmm...well that's no good...

So Kelly dinged, and looking like Brett Carter might draw in. Also Paris Cotton back in...returning kicks today. Will he see touches as tailback?

Kirk Penton @PentonKirk

Cordaro Howard will start at left guard, and special teamer Rene Stephan left practice with an undisclosed injury.

There you go the annual Rene Stephan injury thing.

Sounds like Sears at safety and Sherman starts at LB, i'd suspect with Anderson out that means Thomas and/or Richardson starts on the Dline.

Thomas has been the starter for 2 weeks. Possible 3 starters on D if Leggett can't go - Thomas, Bucknor and Sherman.

Thomas,Bucknor,Sherman, Neufeld,Morley,Kohlert,JFG... There it is.

Thomas,Bucknor,Sherman, Neufeld,Morley,Kohlert,JFG... There it is.

Unless one of the guys on defence gets hurt. Then what?

Alexander and Louie Richardson get to play more than they will anyways.  Dan West and Derek Jones are also options.

If Thomas goes down, it'll be exclusively 30 fronts I'm assuming.

I'd really like to see the Bombers auditioning some NI DL on the practice roster, interior ones specifically.

I wonder what ever happened to Etienne Legare.

Any word on Stephen and Kelly injuries?

LATE HITS

Paris Cotton was busy catching punts and kickoffs at Wednesday’s practice, so there’s a chance he could be in the lineup against the Alouettes … The Bombers are 2 1/2-point underdogs this week … Winnipeg leads the league with a time of possession average of 33 minutes.

What?  The Bombers are underdogs? I'm thinking there's money to be made here somehow...

Easy money

Are they expecting Calvillo back?

Home field is worth 3 points if it helps us feel less insulted.

Currently being melded with Jade Etienne to make the world's most dangerous Etienne-borg.

I agree with Nate, this game has an ugly feel to it.
