And I'm reluctant to blame the O much considering the OL was a mess as soon as Neufeld was out, and then Pokey going down early forced too much Corky, Cobb and Daniels...

Nothing a roll of duct tape can't fix...

Giving up 17 points in the first half, in a CFL game where the O coughed up the ball multiple times, if not a bad outing by a defense. And then holding them to 6 in the second half.

Yup I think this was a game where it was a nice balance of how all three phases including coaching were to blame for the L. If we are just talking the D it’s not the amount of points given up, it’s more the how and when, ie early in the game and late in game, always reacting not setting the tone.

We need a bit more edge to our game on D imo.

Yes. But context matters.

Multiple turnovers by the O.

Look at how defenses are currently performing around the league.

Sure context matters to my point about not the amount of points surrendered but when they were surrendered and yes as I said equal distribution of blame across all phases of the game. We shouldn’t care about other D’s and point to them to justify anything on our end, we should look inwards to better our identity as a D that’s setting the appropriate tone imho.

Zero INTs, two forced fumbles and most big plays against after 4 games.

The whole point of this scheme is sacrificing the big plays by the D to give fewer big plays to the O.

We’re just getting nothing good. This D scheme is really playing not to lose instead of playing the win. The wind in the sails of this franchise left when Younger took over the D. We have no ability to control games or shift momentum with this style of defense.

D is off right now around the league. But other teams are atleast playing physical making plays and stopping the run.

If you asked our DC what’s our D’s identity right now, I wonder what he’d say?

Great question. Can’t stop the run. Can’t stop the pass. What is their identity. O has had 1 bad half in 3 games, d has been consistently bad all 3 games. Concentrating on last game, Fajardo looked like BLM in the first half and on the winning drive where the D didn’t make 1 stop.

Hmmm and some want JY as head coach....

Yup..no playmakers whatsoever

No big thumper or guy to cause any tentative play by opposition

Coming out looking either unprepared or confused...fix a few things in the 3rd quarter but not able to sustain it in critical moments to close games

This shouldn't be a everygame thing but it seems to be..but we'll look at the film and correct the mistakes...or we didnt execute...which is it...and how can new mistakes seem to be happening each game...or are they not seeing what needs to be fixed?

My thought is its the execution or lack of...and mistakes are the players not good enough in some spots to actually execute...that and our roster makeup of a swath of guys who cant actually play effective snaps and are just ST players..gee how many yrs we been bemoaning that?

Our defence as its designed right now doesn't scare anyone and teams have figured out how to pick away at it and control time of possession and keep our offence off field..essentially bagging them out because we have no impact players setting a tone and making disruptive plays..or we just aren't letting them..we play a passive reactive defence now since JY took over..lowest league totals in sacks..ints..prob forced fumbles...id like to see stats for total team tackles for losses too...and in those yrs we have tanked 3 cups and got bounced out.

But we will look at the film and fix it and guys will see what they did wrong..yup..sure

lapo got a hc gig off his work here with many happy to see him leave. buck as well.

We don’t know the specifics of how the staff works on D. Jy has a ton going for him as a dc. Hes part of the problem on D, but the roster on D is as well.

Roster on offence too...hadnt hurt us until last game..but insistence to start 3 canadians when we dont have to...just plain dumb...stupid really...I could see if we had in addition to demski and Neild a Philpot...Gittens...Emilus..etc..but we dont...not even close...Clercius would help if moved inside but still not ideal...Neild is good but he not a difference maker or tone setter...hes a good under radar guy who will hurt teams if they choose to ignore and focus on our top 3...and our top 3 really are middle of pack at best too...they need to really step up if osh chooses to continue the nonesense

Our Dbs are playing 12 yards off the ball, while we roll out 3 man fronts. The scheme is horrible. The best defence in the NFL couldn't make that work. Jordan Younger needs to fix this fast or be given a pink slip. We aren't getting to the QB, and are giving way too much cushion for any defence to be successful. Our run defence is atrocious but a lot of that is our alignment. If you are going to run 3 man fronts a lot you better bring out your beef LBers or today's CFL RBs will just run over them. Tony Jones needs to go back to MIKE, him at WIL makes zero sense and at least he is useful against the run at MIKE.

Another problem is too many packages with too many players coming in and out, it is very hard to find any defensive success when we are subbing out multi players on every play. Guys aren't playing down hill because they are confused. That's on Younger, not on talent level. Nichols didn't suddenly forget how to cover etc.

Starting 3 is one thing. But they insist on carrying a CND back up. That's really what hurt last game. Singer coming in for Wilson likely makes more of a difference than Corcoran. Though if they swap those two WRs would they need to carry a CND somewhere else? Not start, but just to have enough on the roster.

Defensive performance was actually a wash in that game.

Bombers gave up 121 rushing, 267 passing. Elks gave up 106 rushing, 290 passing

Elks generated far more pressure and were rewarded for it with turnovers - that was the difference in the game

Based on where the O turned the ball over, this should've been a blow out. The D has to get some credit for that

The greatest area of concern vs. the Elks was the offensive line, and it's not even close.

There does seem to be some confusion among the D-players. Maybe (but doubtful, IMO) they'll figure out Younger's system before it too late. Regarding the DBs playing off in another area code. I agree. On the Elks' game winnining TD (2nd and goal from the Bombers' 8) Luther, who scored, began his waggle run at the 14 while Nichols, who tackled him after he scored, was lined up 5 yards inside the end zone. Luther was making his move while Nichols was still backing up. Not a recipe for success.

I'll look up the numbers later but didn't Younger's D struggle against both Calgary and Saskatchewan last year?

We need another stud IMP receiver one that is in the Mack, Lawler mould. 50/50 specialists who can stretch the field. This 3 NAT receiver group would be fine if we had an Emilus or someone of that ilk but we are rolling out scrubs as our third NAT. This won't work. Clercius is not the answer either. Time to give up this pipe dream of 3 NAT receivers. That being said our defence is a far greater problem right now. Our OL went to complete shyte after Neufeld went down, but I expect that to happen to some extent with in game injuries.

Roster needs are to turn over every stone to get another IMP receiver that isn't just a place holder. Coaching needs are for JY to pull his head out of his ass or be fired. Let Richie take over. I was absolutely blown away by the number of times we went 3 man front but didn't have Ceresna out there. Can someone explain that to me?

I agree with everything except the Clercius point. He still hasn't been given an opportunity to show anything. I was hopeful during the PS games that maybe they would bring him inside, but injury derailed that so far. Saying that. We don't have a rec who can go and catch a contested Collaros ball. Neild was close, but that ball was too far behind him.

What are we at, 4 100+ yard drives against so far this season?

Not much credit going to come from me.

I'd rather gamble on making some plays on D and give up a 100 yard TD than give up 12 play drive for 100 yards.

We're playing the wrong style in this current era IMO.

From my perspective the alignment they are starting with at linebacker is pretty useless. The whole middle area of the D is just not there. It seemed 2nd half last time to my untrained eye jones was back in the middle and smith playing the outside and it got better... probably need to go with that. Hell if linebackers are going to be a liability be a liability with Smith and shay and stop using Canadians elsewhere when an american would be better. Can't tell me we wouldn't be better off with another american receiver or db getting work over corcoran or kelly.

Easy fix...Roll with Eli at center...Neuf and Wallace....an you can easily add an import reciever....An import reciever gives more bang for the buck than the 3rd import Olineman and if you weigh both...the reciever makes our offence better...Its not like Elsbury is this allstar who us just dominating....And Eli was more than fine...and will be even better with Neuf

That and drop one of Jones and Wilson and again you can add a more productive player...be it another DB to keep Kelly off the field (We would be better off as well with Vavl doing his role) but seems our brains trust calling the game day shots are too terrified to do that in case of injury...stop coaching scared and coach to win...and with that goes the smart move to use Singer as a 3rd import receiver and backup returner if required...but we have a dunce as a coach...And if we keep Cobb on roster he as well can be used in a pinch and wont kill us. Corcoran is pointless and useless other than his piss poor contribution to our offence

Look at our bottom 3..4 on roster...Boulaine..Stuart...Kelly...Pooching all 3 and adding Peterson, Oyelola would make us better. The rookie Clark being hurt...hurts as he was killing it, But replacing the first 2 and then Kelly with Clark when back...none would be missed

Sadly our PR is such a crap construction we have no other real options to get rid of under performing Canadians

And the fact we dont have a viable DT ..or even Tweener guy of any usefulness to come in if Ceresna is not able to go...Just screams for the re-instatement of 10 times cut Kirny to gobble up lotsa reps and basically just make us weak as hell up the middle

Yup..Clercius will be good to compliment Demski and Neild and be the first guy up for injury to a Canadian as well as being used properly within the offence...But him when being back shouldn't be more confirmation in our coaches minds that 3 CDN guys is smart...cause its not

Ceresna went out basically whole 2nd half...the fact we don't have a plan to adjust scheme with personnel if injury occurs and play to strengths of who is still able to play is just coaching blunder and ineptitude to the highest degree...and why I think at times our coaches look dumbfounded when things arent working...and players confused...christ 75% of game is played with guys out of natural position...or trying to perfect knowing 3 different spots on defense in a game..no wonder it looks disjonted and like utter confusion...guys are just playing to not eff up...having to think before reacting...not just playing fast and free and instinctively reacting in a split second...the 1..2 second lag where guys arent just reacting like they should is killing us...prob why some give such a cushion cause they need the extra lil bit of time to see what they need to do...and teams have picked up on it and a fast striking offence just eats us alive

Time to give it up...realize your base set defense and who fits best where...and let them play...rotate as needed and when down/distance and circumstance calls for it

Bringing gys in over and over...moving guys out of their actual spot to just give a different look...but basically still playing your actual same defensive style and scheme fols nobody, but our actual guys on defense...and is pointless...and not needed

18 minutes ago, bryan35 said:

no...they should focus on their actual defined role...and stay in it...not be made to play 2..3..4 different roles...alongside other guys moving around constantly...getting in no flow...killing familiarity...that be the fastest and easiest fix...that is why there is always this confusion..lack of execution...guys always a step too late...a yard or 2 too far away..they cant just react without thinking...they have to think..process...then react...and that time they are already in chase...or the offence has completed the play for a easy gain..
