Collaros status

I suspect we don't see Shay, Smith or Kelly because the club sees them as developmental and not ready, while in the Bomber Brass's minds, we are a contender and thus need to play vets

2 years, 20 games. Just started getting D reps due to injury last year. When healthy he should be as close to ready to start as he will ever be.

If Packers like him but Carney & Trump don't get a trade deal this week, then Packers might have to pay an extra 35% tariff on Elgersma's contract (since he is imported from Canada) of $294,350  So that could be a factor as to whether they keep him around.

Jake and Kola gotta go. And after that, we need to prioritize young development over mediocre veteran production. Still wouldn't bet that actually happens for the most part. 

I think bridges is the only guy who lost his job, Vaval might finally be out as a KR for the year, though he looked solid at db. No reason Parker should continue at S over a guy like Allen. I think Woodbeys physicality would be a massive improvement for us too.

He isn’t rourke like, but a couple of our guys have questionable upside at this point and he has plenty of upside atleast.

We could be in the qb wilderness for years like Edmonton because of the way Walters & Osh messed up the qb position.

Walter's the guy who put us in this position at qb & receiver & you expect him to fix it?? Our GM is way past his expiry date. He used to be so sharp & had it together. Now? He's like a 2L milk jug that went sour in the fridge. Wow, is this team ever .....

Idc what league it is, you ride the QB talent. If that Qb becomes a younger guy, you move to him. Imagine if the Pats went back to bledsoe and jetisoned brady.

That's kind of where the league is though.  Terrible QB play and development.

Brown vs Collaros gave two distinct paths, but look at Ottawa.  Brown is turning out to be their Drew Willy.  He's been healthy less than Collaros.

Matt Shiltz has started games for 4 different CFL teams since the 2020 shutdown.

Hamilton and Sask are resurgent on guys who are pushing 40 who haven't been healthy or consistent since before 2020.

Montreal rolled with the guy who can't play a quarter without aggravating his hamstring.  Great player, but is he going to be the guy who can only play 10-12 games a season like Dickenson?

Edmonton pushed all-in on Ford who is nowhere near ready, if he ever could be with his arm.

BC is paying Rourke an amount he could probably never out play.

Calgary is on the up slope of the VAJ rollercoaster.

The only way to make sure you have a basic floor level of QB play in this league is to sign MBT.

This is it. There is no QB in the league right now who is consistently good and healthy.

This is where the Brown vs. Collaros argument kind of falls apart from me. 

Yes Collaros was showing signs of slowing down, and yes Brown looked very promising in spot duty when he was here... but I'm not sure ANYONE in football would move on from a QB who was just off back-to-back MOP seasons, and the season we are talking about moving on from he was probably 3rd in the voting that year, and if the Argonauts don't go 16-2 is definitely the All-CFL QB... for someone who hasn't exactly lit the league on fire since he left. 

I also want to take this moment to throw some shade at MBT... of all the QBs in the league, he is the only one who hasn't completed a pass (to his team) 20+ yards past the line of scrimmage.

Status on Collaros.....aged and in serious decline....and have to think now is dealing with an ongoing injury issue I think stemming from that Edm game...and hasnt really been 100 percent fixed...if ever will. 

I also pretty sure we (the team) are/were very aware of it and the fact they have done nothing really to either put the actual work/time/packages/reps together to develop a guy already here....or make a move to get a possible heir apparent is an utter failure all around...with multiple people to blame for it,  and the fact we actually had the poor judgement to re-up him before he even stepped on field this yr, let alone took a snap in an actual game has to be one of the most bone headed moves in decades....

Incompetence all around, and not sure the dynamics of what going on and who's word holds the most say, but to me I think the bit of success the team had was attributed way too much to Osh and with that somehow he gained more control of the who and how we go about player signings and FA targets, or has totally taken over....I am certain Walter's hasn't gotten real stupid overnight, moreso has forgotten he is the Boss and actually has a set of plumbs dangling between his legs and needs to take control back...or get out of the way and we get someone else in who will

Honestly tho...I think after the yr is thru we move on with Osh, and get a new fresh guy in their who knows talent and x' and o's and keep moving forward...For most part players coming in now....new to league....or just new to team don't know Osh from spit...and have no allegiance to him or this fascination he is the be all end all....

The decision is one that teams who contend for a long time have to make.  Collaros has been on borrowed time since 2018.  Dru Brown was insanely productive and with enough reps to know it wasn't a mirage.  Like double the reps Mike Reilly had before Edmonton handed him the keys and contended for the next half decade.  Wally Buono made similar decisions about 4 times in his career.

Basically could have handed Collaros back to Hamilton or maybe even Toronto to play out his career.  Not the worst thing, it's where they live (his family).  Tough decision, but those have to be made.  No one would have been worse off.  Collaros playing pretty poorly in terms of putting up points in playoff games since the 2019 playoffs would have helped my decision making.

I don't blame the team for moving on from Dru Brown  at that time Zach was still playing really well. 

What I don't get is that extension in the off season... last year Zach was terrible (outside of the Edmonton game) and they gave him another year before seeing if he was going to bounce back?   What makes it double dumb is we have Strev who I "assumed" was going to take over for Zach ,  so delaying the transition for another year?   IMO this season should of been a season where Zach takes less snaps and Strev gets more play time.    If Zach came back and lit up the league with an MOP season then we pay him the money.    If he plays like how he has played so far this season (poorly)  the team would officially make Strev our starter now with Zach as the veteran back up insurance.   During the off season we offer Zach a nice veteran backup offer and only keep him at a fraction of his cost as veteran backup.  Nearly every team is set at QB so if Edmonton were willing to offer him 650 k to start next season then so be it.    Sign Fajardo as a back up for $300k an use that money savings from Zach for an all star free agent....
