They could have had money in place for other players...maybe some worked out by upping their offer...or maybe some didn't and they weren't able to sign some players. And when those priorities settled, they had enough money to make an offer to Ford that he would accept. "Hey we're not going to be able to get to Fords #'s unless priorities A-B and C don't happen." Turns out A-B and C don't happen, and they make an offer to Ford. Which turns out to be too late. This or any number of other scenarios could have happened. So there was a plan...priorities shifted and they could move forward with offering a field side corner way more than he should be making. This idea there was "no plan" is idiotic. Who said lazy? Maybe dragging out negotiations was part of his strategy. Like you said, there could be many reasons but we have no idea what they are/were. Also never said there was no plan - I said I don't get what his plan was & I'm not referring just to Ford. either. I'm good with letting almost any DB go if his salary is going to prevent us from re-signing or signing players who could help in other areas. There were a number of moves (or lack thereof) that I didn't get.

And I agree the game with the Stamps will be a tough win for us IMHO. What really concerns me is the quality of our DL. I am starting to think both Jake and Willy may be past their "best before dates". But all in all great to be back in Canada and really happy to be able to watch some CFL games and get back in swing of things Bomberwise!!!! Starting?!? 😂 23 hours ago, JuranBoldenRules said: Brian Cole on pace for MODP yet? It's a lock! Edited 8 hours ago by bearpants HardCoreBlue and Colin Unger 2

It is ridiculous to suggest that just because Walters came late to the party it means he was lazy or was over confident. He likely pegged money for something else and circled back when it became apparent that whatever avenue he wanted to explore had dried up.....probably Lawler. Plans are just that...plans...but no GM in this league executes their plans 100% in FA. You pivot according to how the market plays out. Some guys you want to sign just become unaffordable. Tbh, I would have been POed if we blew that kind of cash on a DB and I thought Ford was an incredible NAT asset, but EDM threw ridonkulous money at him. Edited 7 hours ago by GCn20

Curious to see if we add another DE to the roster and how that impacts our dline. I would love to see another DE added, but I have my doubts it will happen. rebusrankin 1

Colin Unger Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago In terms of Walter’s approach. I think he gets a sense pretty early on if a player is going to listen to offers in the tampering window. And in those cases they want to wait and see what the guy is being offered before going above what they think is fair value for a player. The idea that Winnipeg would have been able to retain Ford had they communicated in a different way sounds like cope from Ford. He took the money and the chance to play with his brother. But nobody going to say they did it for the money. Given how difficult it is to keep a good team good for long term in a salary cap era I think they’ve done alright. We’d be in a better position if they’d been better at recruited Defensive ends over the years. They seem to cap out at serviceable when it comes to defensive end recruits. Piggy 1 1
