Really easy to always say that there's some mystical coach out there that would be a better fit.  We've been through generations as CFL fans watching teams including our own who keep believing that.

Played a bunch of Call of Duty, does that count?

You can call every play involving the fullback

Let me dig out my coaching hat and see what I can draw up.

Offence was leading the league in rushing and passing with the mess in edm. Turned them around into a near play off team after that abysmal start.
He ran an extremely dynamic multi threat run based game with a pass plan that made up a lot for their ol. 6 stints in the league as a pass game co/ oc with good success, really made the most of his pieces at each stop.

Hes one of if not the most innovative oc in the cfl. He puts together great game plans and play call is his strong suit.

All he does is exceed, and over achieve ever time he’s given an opportunity. Miller, for me is the opposite. Tends to under achieve while flashing potential.

He’s been noted as a guy who is excellent at development and player coaching, going back to his playing career. Which is why he instantly slid into coaching upon retiring

Since he switched to coaching he hasn’t been out of football once. In a league where guys like Paul can’t stick in the league it speaks volumes that soo many front offices of different teams scoop him up every time he’s available.

He’s been able to excel under the egomaniac that is Chris jones. Also a buono disciple.

He was able to get three running backs to perform under the same system,  might be a good guy that could get Demski more involved in the short game.

Basically in the shitshow in Edmonton had most productive offence...also has played in league and knows it

He also knows how to utilize players skill sets and shown he can adapt to..and with them...he'd be my choice

Plus has familiarity with Lawler...Mitchell...

Hamilton in the Freep speculated that we may not bring back both Lawler and Schoen. Wonder if that's the case.

Clercius is younger, cheaper with good hands and was a very physical player after he got the ball, punishing would-be tacklers. I liked Wolitarsky but...

Clercius showed that he looked ready to step into a starting role. Question then becomes is Woli's price fit into our SMS for 3rd NAT receiver. The answer was no I guess. Loved Woli, mad respect for the guy, but his lack of health last year gave a guy a chance to steal his job and the guy took advantage. Sucks to see him go, but I am looking forward to seeing more KC.

Think we need a steady hand on the rudder as well. JJ brings that.

I am shocked Woli is no longer in Blue and Gold.

I echo @Booch comment about keeping Woli over Jake. Seriously does Jake have pictures of Walters and a goat or something?

I will wait and see on why Woli was released. However, the Jake or Woli argument makes no sense.

We have let go a number of vets over the past few years (Jeffcoat, Bighill, Woli) where salary, age and sometimes production were a factor. Jake's older, his production isn't great and he's not on a minimum  salary and yet he survives. Make sense now?

He stays healthy is what I'm gathering on why he is kept around?  I think most people are ok "if" he only plays minimal snaps or is a back ups back up.

that would make zero sense...basically all new receivers for ZC save for Demski who isnt always healthy, and minimal reps from Clercius....We all know how that will go....as ZC has a hard time dealing it to guys he isnt too familiar with...or has trust...and he gets hissy about it too...which compounds it

My impression s we lock up Kenny if we havnt already, and let Schoen explore...to see where he valued after injury, and when he may even be ready...and then decide

even minimal reps is a waste...If it is to spell off Lawson...which really should be the only reason we rotate a national in there then use a young guy and develop him...Park JT on the 6 game in case we have injury catastrophe....and keep his salary off the books

And depending on how we use ratio...we may not even need a Canadian DT to satisfy the ratio...so dress 2 Nationals....Lawson and the best of the young guys or a possible draft pick

No. Still makes no sense because it was never a choice between them. Even if we don't re-sign Thomas it has zero bearing on keeping/releasing Woli. Releasing Woli was not a SMS move.

Sure it is, releasing Woli & Bighill clears up money to chase after free agents. Mike Rose, James Vaughters, Jake Ceresna will be available in free agency. I have a feeling we'll be bringing in someone on the DL to help WJ out.

lol I haven’t followed hockey in ages and that still resonates. Great comparison.
As I said previously, “going home” is bs 90% of the time.

If the hometown team offers a player an opportunity to come home for big bucks they'll go. If I was playing in Edmonton & I had a chance to come home to Winnipeg, I'd jump at it. If Clercius develops into an elite Canadian receiver, the Als will come calling. We all know that Hamilton will go after Tyrell Ford to play as I believe he's from Burlington. His family is still there.

Bighill yea....Woli was making 20k over league minimum so no real big savings there. His salary was not preventing us from going after anyone. They simply wanted to go another direction at receiver. Far more likely than salary dump is that the Bombers are looking at going with a crap load more 1 NAT receiver sets this year.

If your hometown team throws big bucks at you then yea some players will leave to go home. However, the key part of that IF is the big bucks. We have the same SMS as they do.

not trying to be a crap disturber or arse...but do you have that as a fact?...or just an assumption?

It possibly could tho with the Thomas signing....say they are looking to spend such and such in FA on some big ticket prices...and only have room for so much depth with vet Canadian salaries....so say 115...120k for a spot...Went to JT in lieu of Woli....and we just basically got rid of any National depth that has experience and usefulness at receiver....a spot we use for ratio...and are carrying 4 National DT's now...a spot where we dont need that much depth there....it wasn't a ratio requirement and especially with 2 of them (JT and Schmeck) who really are bottom barrel talent wise...one of whom has zero upside...and another...Samson who never got a snap...so is a big unknown too....rosterand sms wise....this doesnt look like the smartest allocation of assets and cash...Unless like I mentioned they have some big mind blowing event in FA happening....and I not too positive thats happening

I believe Walters has stated a few times that he has an amount allocated to each positional group. So I'm not sure the savings on WR would then transfer to DT or vice versa...not saying it's impossible. I just don't think that's how they work it. And if we're going off that, Wollys $$ will be spent on WR.

What’s the max ppl would pay lawler? How about Schoen? I could see not signing one being legit if they both want the bag.

Likely going with 2 Natl. receivers as starters, if Woli is around Clercius isn't getting the development time he earned last season, because Zach prefers Woli.  As a courtesy cutting him now gives him a chance to sign with another team before FA begins, he should be able to play another 3-4 years if he wants to.  They can pick up a left behind and forgotten Natl. receiver like Daniel Petermann in FA to backup Clercius and Demski or go with a new draft choice.

Why would they get the bag?

Schoen was paid $230k last season which isn't out of line for top end receiver talent.  Lawler was a bit high at $285k, making him the second highest paid receiver in the league, chisel him back down to 250k or let him walk.
