Oh I agree...but some also need to be realistic...he can still chase it..probably more successfully if he was to get some film up here and shown potential.

Even agree to sign and if a team wanted to add him to the PR ...not just a look...the club would release him.

Ford got a good look signing here...and playing soley ST save for one start at end of yr

If u have legit talent..it was known before u were draft eligible and would get if not a PR spot...or numerous workouts to possibly get one...when u get no tire kicking...especially a Canadian.. undrafted...from a Canadian university...u need to realize a few things...and there's always next yr if u do anything...even 1 thing that scouts like, you are gonna get nibbles...they are always watching..my opinion he got bad council from whoever is in his camp

There's a 0% chance Elgersma signs here before the end of the next NFL season.  And at that it would be if he's getting no calls and looks in January-February 2027. 

4 weeks on a NFL PR and he makes more than he would on CFL deal.  If he's on a roster for OTA's and training camp he'll basically make a full year of CFL salary on a rookie deal in per diem and pay.

If he signs with us he won't be playing any time soon.  He won't really be in a spot to succeed.  They won't be building an offense around him.

There's no incentive at this point for him to sign here, or the CFL generally.

I hope for all involved that elgersma doesn’t fall into a trap of waiting around and not playing, or being a tcf usual down south. 

 With his pre season play and tools though I think the interest in him right now is legit. 

If he gets pr time down there it will be good for him no matter where he ends up. 

I hate seeing guys sit who aren’t getting a call or real shot. Qbs are odd though and benefit more/ take more time before playing. For a guy that didn’t play high level competition, nfl tc type action is a huge benefit for him.

Don't get payed in TC.. a per diem but not pay per say...OTA not even a per diem and nobody is payed salary in and camps or ota's

Guys with no accrued time in NFL (no time on active roster) get about $15,000 USD for a full camp plus per diems which vary for game days and controlled scrimmage.  They basically have no cost too because the club provides housing and meals.  Guys with accrued time get about double that.  Elgersma would be in the former category at this point.

That's about 6 CFL game cheques on a rookie deal.

It makes all the sense in the world for him to try and get a shot for as long as he can and I certainly wouldn't fault him.

Having said that, it's interesting that they seemingly told Walters that if it doesn't pan out this NFL season, that they'll be in camp come May.

Unless they told Walters something different, his agent didn't specify a timeline when he commented on it a month ago.  Weinrauch said he'd be happy to sign here if/when all NFL opportunities are exhausted.

It was was Walters who said they probably won't know until after Feb 1st when NFL futures contracts are signed.  That might be something they discussed privately though.

From what I know they get now 1850 a week per diem...vets a bit over 3000...so not sure what you getting that from...so false.

If he makes 5 weeks of camp he gets about 7500 before tax...and from experience OTA's nobody gets anything...so unless they changed things during the actual season its as it was.. the money part is somewhat accurate for a vet...but that's the per diem amount...not a "salary" plus a per diem...nobody gets salary paid at all thru camp

Also when season starts and u hooing to try and get a pr from a team after u were cut and say get asked for a workout...there is a 48 hour window where tean will cover your expense...if goes longer than that without offered a PR spot you on your own and pay.. if u git a good agent they will cover it...if not u or your family foots anything outside the 48 hour window...again...speaking from experience personally and with players we trying to get opp's with

yep, you never know when a guys rope will run out as a tc body / pr arm. Some guys fall through fast others like mbt hang around forever. 

 Ufl might make more sense between nfl seasons if he continues to get interest but not an offer.

No idea how long he can go with out a deal financially. Kid is very talented and performed well in pre season. Hes deserving of a shot, but who knows if it’ll come. If he gets or time down south that’d be great for him. If he gets another nfl camp that too would be great for him. A camp here would be good, the ufl if they let him play would even be good between nfl tcs. 

Really as long as he is active and gets coaching and practice / tc he will be in good shape. 

I hope he doesn’t end up waiting for calls that don’t come. I also hope he is actively working with a great qb coach right now to continue his growth.

Not sure what the NFL per diem and payscale is for PR but I do know that restricting our NAT rookies to 80k a year for their first 3 years is just about the stupidest thing ever.

Guys signing futures contracts might as well not sign anything. There is no bonus, no commitment from the NFL team, and very little chance of making the squad.

Hey, I used to be a pretty good club curler but it's sad that no phone call came for me to play with the pros. I finally realized it never would. I wasted a decade after juniors chasing that dream. There's a big difference between a 65-70% curler & someone who consistently throws 80 plus per cent.

I'd say by now that the "SeeThe US NFL Tour" is getting a little tiring. Elgersma's basing his future on a very good East-West Shrine Game practice week & performance as well as a few practices in the NFL. He did okay when he played but he wasn't lights out like he needed to be., Every play. Every practice. Every play. Every game. It's almost an impossible task for an undrafted free agent. He should be getting the message by now. Even if he gets on a PR, he'll never play.

The gd Randy Ambrosie hangover continues. Two things needing to change should have been a priority . Get rid of the coaching/admin cap & axing the rookie salary cap. Our Commish should have swept the closet out of everything Ambrosie did & get back to actually running the league. Instead of worrying about rule changes for US expansion.
