How Happy Are You With Paul LaPolice

https://www.bluebombers.com/2018/07/17/need-know-july-17/

Paul LaPolice won’t spend too much time second-guessing his play calls, but he has been re-living the club’s short yardage inadequacies from last Saturday. The Bombers were stuffed on a pair of possessions that cost the club a minimum of six points, likely more.

“I do kick myself that one of those two calls at the goal line should have given Andrew (Harris) an opportunity,” he said. “I could have done a better job there. And then at the end of the game we went with a wider wedge that we had seen on film that they didn’t handle well once. We had a change up to it… it didn’t work in our favour. We’ve got to get better and I’ll certainly get better at that.

“I talked to (Harris) yesterday and said, ‘You know what? I can give you one of those two carries, depending on where we are. One of them was at the three-yard line… at the three-yard line I should have gotten you one of those two touches.’

Asked if he might have been inclined to take the two field goals instead, he added:

“We had a second and two in the game where we had a play we wanted to do where we took a shot downfield and we hit it for a (long) gain,” said LaPolice. “If you don’t get that, people are saying, ‘Why aren’t you giving Andrew the ball on second and two?’ In hindsight, you can do all those things. That’s what we decided to do and whatever the coach decides we’ll go ahead and do. We’ve got to be better to win the football game. We weren’t good enough offensively to win the football game. We did a lot of good things, but we can’t turn the ball over like we did and make mistakes like we did.”

And yet, we have won something like 25 games with him as OC in 16 & 17 & Matt Nichols has had two very, very good seasons as his qb.  We were the highest scoring offense last season. He had a

Yup...let's go back to 2002 so you can criticize him today. Guess you are exactly the same as you were in 2002!

Which is why I referenced more than 2002...but thanks for coming out.

LaPo also coached the Riders to a GC vs the Als & would have won except the STC who is now the GM in Montreal had trouble counting to 12.

See my quote on counting to 12...

You can easily apply the same logic to Marcel Bellefeuille. If you can't make it work with Khari Jones, Charles Roberts, and Milt Stegall, you aren't going to make it work period.

Of course, people never learn and grow right.  We are who we are and never change?  Your arguement is so bad it's almost not worth pointing that out.  But here goes... Yes, let's look at Bellefeuille.  Which CFL team is he the OC for again?  Oh yea, no one.  Not going to be one again, I'd wager because he's never been anything beyond mediocre in several attempts.  But you know what, if we fired LaPolice, I'd bet he'd have no trouble whatsoever finding employment as an OC in this league.  None at all, because he's clearly not the same guy he was when he was first with us.  Is he the best OC in the league?  I don't know but we've had one of the best offences in the league in the past little while.  If people want to dump all over Hall because of our D, then people also have to give credit to LaPolice.

And I did. I said his creativity was probably the best in the league. His situational calling however is average at best, and that's reflected in the game tape and our overall record.

Mostly he just needs to take what he wants to call and do the opposite some of the time.  That and live and die with his best players.  A well-designed run play for Harris on 1st down is never a wrong call.  Harris didn't have a meaningful touch after the game was 17-10.  That's just crazy.

The poll speaks for itself with most people understanding that Lapo's top ranking offenses grant him more than enough leeway to work here.

Those who put the blame on him for anything do so as a smoke screen to defend Hall's incompetence.

Well, I was right about everything, back then, as well.....

Lapolice is on fire today and shutting up the detractors.  His phone will be blowing up with head coach job offers the way this is keeping up.

Hurry up offence trying to get points before the half and you run three times. Brilliant.

If he has a BEd he might be able to get one at a high school in Winnipeg.

Pretty sure BC, Edmonton and Montreal will be trying to land him first.

Maas to BC this off season. Joining Hervey.

Lapo saves his job for yet another week.....

His job has not been and should never be in jeopardy

People seem to forget that hes also going head to head against DCs every game too.. some games a DC will game plan very well against his offense.. others not so much...  I'd say that he beats his opposition far more often then the DCs shutting him down.   is he the best OC ever??  No.

but he is a far cry from the garbage we've seen come thru the stadium doors in the past..

No, it shouldn't & is not.  He had the Argos defense all discombobulated all game. They didn't know what was coming next.

The same Argo defence that kept the Eskimos offence in check two games in a row. This debate is silly. Like I said, most of Lapo's detractors are Richie Hall defenders who use Lapo's bad games as smoke screens to make excuses for our bad DC.

Yeah and I definitely was happy with our defence last night, but it also didn’t hurt that our offence was on the field far more than Toronto’s.

What I liked about Lapo and the offense yesterday:

1.  Stuck with Harris and the run game and xudnt get too cute with fancy reverses etc.

2. Took points, (i.e. field goals), on the road instead of 3rd down gambles that at have given TO momentum if unsuccessful.

Hopefully lessons learned from the BC debacle.

When Harris gets 20 touches, we usually make out pretty well on O
