Is it though?

That man is single-handedly responsible for so much of the average American getting ****** over... the state of the SCOTUS... women's rights, and so on...

The amount of needless suffering and inequality on his shoulders...

I feel no pity.

Moreso that it happens to anyone. Recently I've seen multiple people within my family go through cognitive decline and it really sucks. Not sure what is going on with Mitch, but it is sad to see someone with apparently diminished capacities trotted out in front of the media and his decline being a worldwide meme.

My grandmother had dementia. She thought she was a teen at times. It certainly is odd to see, made me sad and I had a hard time going to see her again because I had no idea who she was. Mitch is like when the wifi goes down for a moment and needs to reboot. There were all sorts of characters at Concordia place, not one was Mitch like. That's just not normal at all. It's like he's rebooting

A report on MSNBC today said that one in five election workers in the US have been threatened already and the campaign to elect a president has not really started. The thinking is that the right-wing wingnuts want to scare off all the principled elections workers so that they can get their people into positions to sway the results, even by illegal means.

Just another example of a failing, collapsing state. How far they fall and what comes out the other end, who knows. Scary s**t.

I think they are at a level of nascent authoritarianism not seen before.

These democracy hating nazi  racists are very determined.  They just keep pushing. They were close to succeeding.   Mike Pence?

There is nothing they won’t do. Think Rittenhouse.

and people with  money, and skills,  are helping them.  They have Backing from the highest levels. Sympathizers, and members in All branches of government. Wall Street, churches, police, armed forces.

add on Russia, China.fomenting hate.

If MConnell had impeached  Trump, maybe it would have gone from boil to simmer. But he did not.

so the rabble rouser is stirring it daily.

that’s why Trudeau government is smart to prepare for the worst from America.

It’s come to this: The anti-vax movement is now after your dog:  The anti-vaxxers are now going to war against rabies vaccines for dogs

Here we are, coming up on three years of dealing with COVID, and not only are people still arguing about vaccines against the disease, but the anti-vax sentiment that seemed to blossom when the COVID vaccine became available in 2021 has also now cross-pollinated and found its way into the veterinary clinic. A study just published by the journal Vaccine, part of the ScienceDirect network, showed that more than half of American respondents now have questions about vaccinating their dogs – even against rabies.

The Vaccine study, done in conjunction with YouGov, the public opinion polling outfit, questioned 2,200 Americans between March 30 and April 10 of this year and found that 53 percent of respondents had what the study called some "hesitancy" about vaccinating their dogs. This is a bigger problem than you'd think.  According to the journal Frontiers in Veterinary Science, 99 percent of all rabies cases worldwide are contracted through dogs that are household pets. Even scarier than that, rabies is almost always fatal once dogs or humans show symptoms. It's a vicious disease; vaccinating dogs is the best way to control it. Given those figures, you'd think that vaccinations for dogs would be a slam dunk, wouldn't you?

Think again.

According to the poll by Vaccine/YouGov, large numbers of the American population believe that canine vaccines are unsafe (37 percent), ineffective (22 percent), or unnecessary (30 percent.)  According to the study, "A slight majority of dog owners (53 percent) endorse at least one of these three positions."
Where the hell did that come from, you might ask?  According to Bloomberg, "Nearly 40 percent were concerned that vaccines could cause dogs to develop autism, a theory without any scientific merit."  Sound familiar?  We've got a prospective presidential candidate, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has been pushing that nonsense about humans for the last couple of decades.  That the same bogus theory has now invaded the vet's office shows you how far we've fallen as a nation when it comes to taking care of not only ourselves and our children, but even our pets.

Waiting for the first livestock farmer...to stop using vaccines.

It's coming.

If you look at the venn diagram between farmers and anti-vaxxers, there's quite a lot of overlap. Thinking about the Winkler area in particular. Only a matter of time till they realize that Big Pharma is attempting to control their animals.

Yea but everyone’s equally bad because you know the left-wing wingnuts are trying to take our children away.

Deflection, deflection, deflection.

Rinse, repeat.

MSNBC’s Ayman Mohyeldin Warns To Take Trump At His Word Over Latest Wild Threat

Don’t dismiss Donald Trump’s vow to lock up his political enemies if he wins back the White House, MSNBC’s Ayman Mohyeldin said on Sunday.

It wasn’t “hard to imagine him following through,” said Mohyeldin.

Mohyeldin recalled Trump 2016’s campaign promises to ban Muslims from entering the United States, to build a wall on the southern border with Mexico, and to strive to end abortion rights by overturning the landmark Supreme Court decision of Roe v. Wade.
All three “seemed like absurd, vindictive moonshots at the time, but in some form or fashion, he in fact did carry out on all three of those campaign promises,” said Mohyeldin.

“So when Donald Trump says that he truly plans to lock up his political opponents, I for one take the man seriously,” he added.

I said this all along Trump with his AG will round up everyone who has ever crossed him have them jailed and if he really fancies it after a Kangaroo Court execute them like all the dictators do. He is a dangerous unread egotistical man who has conned America and has mused about shooting people and nothing coming of it. As a side note the WSJ has him and Biden neck and neck on a recent poll , election is a long way away but even with all his baggage if the election happened tomorrow it would be a toss up.

The similarities between Trump /US and mid 1930s Germany continue to build.

“WASHINGTON —

With more than a year to go before the 2024 election, a constellation of conservative organizations is preparing for a possible second White House term for Donald Trump, recruiting thousands of Americans to come to Washington on a mission to dismantle the federal government and replace it with a vision closer to his own.

Led by the long-established Heritage Foundation think tank and fueled by former Trump administration officials, the far-reaching effort is essentially a government-in-waiting for the former president’s return — or any candidate who aligns with their ideals and can defeat President Biden in 2024.

With a nearly 1,000-page “Project 2025” handbook and an “army” of Americans, the idea is to have the civic infrastructure in place on Day One to commandeer, reshape and do away with what Republicans deride as the “deep state” bureaucracy, in part by firing as many as 50,000 federal workers.“

If this doesn't scare US voters, nothing will. But probably it will not.

Won’t scare a lot of people

“Most Republicans in a January 2020 survey agreed that “the traditional American way of life is disappearing so fast that we may have to use force to save it.” More than 40% agreed that “a time will come when patriotic Americans have to take the law into their own hands.”

also.

“If this were a dictatorship, it’d be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I’m the dictator.”
– George W. Bush

A perfect scenario for the installation of an authoritarian government and/or civil war.

Ultimately Depends I guess on the judiciary, the Secret service, the alphabet agencies, the police, the armed forces, whether Biden has rooted out the criminals. This explains why the tuberville hack is stopping military appointments.

Yeah it is right there for the taking.

I,appreciate Biden’s calm demeanour, but someone with anger and fire needs to become more visible.

to oppose the anger and fire spewing from everywhere on the right.   The Democrats need to speak up forcefully and together about the danger.

and the eco system, is truly collapsing. Everywhere.

very grim times.

'Police violence is flourishing' — and would figure prominently in new right-wing authoritarian state: columnist

Critics of former President Donald Trump, from progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) to right-wing Never Trump conservatives like attorney George Conway and the Washington Post's Max Boot, have been warning that if Trump wins the 2024 election, his second administration will do everything it can to destroy the United States' system of checks and balances.

In his September 5 newsletter, liberal Philadelphia Inquirer opinion columnist Will Bunch takes their warnings a step further — arguing that if a full-fledged authoritarian state does take over the U.S., "violent reactionary policing" will play a prominent role in it.

"If you remember the late John Singleton's classic 1991 film 'Boyz n the Hood,' you can't forget the constant, buzzing presence of police helicopters over South Central L.A., reminding the youthful protagonists they are always under watch in a modern police state," Bunch writes. "Three decades have passed, and for all the talk about changing the police, the only real change is that cops have gone high-tech."

After George Floyd's murder in June 2020, Bunch laments, the U.S. "decided to double down on repressive law enforcement instead of cleaning up its act."

"Increasingly, cops are enforcing right-wing politics," Bunch observes. "In Telford, a Philadelphia exurb, an online activist was stunned to get a letter from the local police chief threatening to arrest her for 'maliciously harassing' the right-wing extremist group Moms for Liberty. This comes on the heels of a widely publicized raid of a small-town Kansas newspaper that had investigated prominent locals, including the new police chief, and an incident in St. Louis in which a member of a jail monitoring board raced to the facility after an inmate died ― only to be arrested by the cops."

The columnist adds that "police violence is flourishing" in the U.S., noting examples that range from police in Ohio shooting an unarmed pregnant woman to the fatal shooting of motorist Eddie Irizarry in Philadelphia.

"Police killings in 2022 set a recent record high, although the pace has diminished slightly this year," Bunch warns. "It feels important to see out-of-control, violent or politicized policing in the proper context — not as a random story that occasionally intrudes on the nonstop news of Donald Trump's 50-50 chance of becoming 47th president despite his indictments, but as a subplot of the same narrative. The powerful, ultra-conservative police unions mostly endorsed Trump in 2016 and 2020, and that ridiculous phalanx of motorcycle cops at his Atlanta arrest was a visual reminder that the police support him more than ever — despite his growing rap sheet."

“Dark” right-wing network recruits MAGA “army” to replace 50K federal workers Trump plans to purge

Anetwork of conservative groups is gearing up for the potential reelection of Donald Trump, actively enlisting an "army" of Americans to come to Washington with a mission to disassemble the federal government and substitute it with a vision that aligns more closely with their own beliefs and ideas, according to The Associated Press.

Organized by the Heritage Foundation, the sweeping new initiative called Project 2025, offers a policy agenda, transition plan, a playbook for the first 180 days and a personnel database for the next GOP president to access from the very beginning to take control, reform, and eliminate what Republicans criticize as the "deep state" bureaucracy. Their plan includes the possibility of firing as many as 50,000 federal employees.

Democracy experts view Project 2025 as an authoritarian attempt to seize power by filling the federal government, including the Department of Justice and the FBI, with unwavering Trump supporters, which could potentially erode the country's system of checks and balances.
