US Politics

Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Do respect this one though:

Quote

Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna take the salary, the president’s salary?

Donald Trump: Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. But it’s a -- I don’t even know what it is.

Donald Trump: Do you know what the salary is?

Lesley Stahl: $400,000 you’re giving up.

Donald Trump: No, I’m not gonna take the salary. I’m not taking it.

The Republicans are to stupid to figure this out, they hitched their wagon to quite possibly the dumbest most self serving pos in the world

These dead heats in Georgia and Colorado are a perfect illustration of our current reality.

Not as progressive and evolved as we thought.

I'm shocked that a state like Georgia which has a huge black population could possibly vote for a republican

People truly are pretty stupid in the US.

Trump Repeatedly Called For IRS, Justice Department Probes Of Foes: Report

When Trump was president, if he "told you to slit someone’s throat, he thought you would go out and do it,” said former White House chief of staff John Kelly.

When Donald Trump was president, he repeatedly demanded investigations by the IRS and Justice Department against foes he thought had made him “look bad,” his former White House chief of staff John Kelly told The New York Times.

Trump often demanded probes in the wake of news reports involving perceived enemies who angered him, according to Kelly, who said he viewed Trump’s plans as an unacceptable “weaponization” of the power of the presidency.
Trump discussed investigations of FBI director James Comey and his deputy Andrew McCabe, former CIA director John Brennan, Hillary Clinton, and Amazon founder and Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos, whose newspaper’s coverage of Trump infuriated him, Kelly told the Times in an article published Sunday.

“The U.S. government, whether it’s the IRS or the Justice Department, should never be weaponized or used to retaliate, and certainly not because someone criticizes you in the press or is your political opponent,” Kelly said.

Kelly said he staved off constant demands for such probes in often lengthy, heated arguments, telling Trump that such actions were potentially illegal, immoral and could trigger serious political “blowback” for him.

“He thought I would be loyal and obedient to him. I told him we were loyal to our oath to the Constitution,” Kelly said.

The same thing should be said to John Kelly as it's said to like the droves of people like Ann Coulter now coming out against Trump:

Shut the F*uck up, slither away under some rock, no one cares what you have to say, you're reputation is forever tarnished, you money grubbing status seeking self centered cowards. If Trump was more successful in his motives they would be there right with him filling their bank accounts and having huge heads with increased status and power

Stop interviewing these clowns and if you have to, stop taking their canned responses as truth, hammer them relentlessly, question their motives relentlessly on why they did what they did. Make them not want to be interviewed.

I believe that if Trump had somehow become popular and not an election liability, all of these loathsome creatures would have said nothing about all the insane excesses and abuses of power either done or intended. That makes them equally culpable and equally disgusting.

This is where journalism is failing us and where social media has provided a platform for theses creatures to slither on.

After the midterms Pence has seen the light about Trump, or maybe he is trying to sell a book

And the list continues to grow. Pence can go f*ck himself and while I have him on the line stay the f*uck away from commenting on what woman can and cannot do with their own bodies.

Where was Pence 2 years ago when people wanted to hang him, why didn't he ask his buddy why he didn't tell his people to stand down, cause he was afraid of Trump and his crazies. Now that he sees that Trump's power was more of an illusion then fact he opens his trap.

Republicans are cluing in that Trump is a loser and they are going to try and distance themselves from him.... won't work though, they encouraged him and his fanbase bought the crap. Won't be an easy feet to get them back... especially knowing how petty trumpywumpy is. He will probably run as an independent just to **** them over for turning on him

Most aren’t just clueing in now. They have always known who he is and what he stands for. That’s who they are as well and Trump gives them that venue to  more outwardly display that. But now they’re feeling more heat so it’s time to clutch their fake pearls.

More likely has to do with a sinking ship and rodents.  Pence has likely come to the conclusion that he and he alone is anointed of God and thus destined to lead America out of chaos whether it wants to be led or not.

Clarence Thomas Again Moves To Block Jan. 6 Inquiry That Could Implicate His Wife

In a dissent on Monday, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas showed that he would have blocked enforcement of a subpoena issued by the House Jan. 6 Committee for the phone and text records of Arizona Republican Party Chair Kelli Ward.

The committee is seeking Ward’s records related to her role in former President Donald Trump’s effort to steal the 2020 election as a fake elector casting ballots in the Electoral College for Trump.
This is the second time Thomas has indicated that he would intervene to hamper the committee’s efforts to investigate the plot to overturn the 2020 election in which his wife, Ginni Thomas, played a role

Thomas previously was the lone justice to dissent from the court’s refusal to block the release of White House records held by the National Archives to the Jan. 6 Committee. It was later revealed in March that his wife had been in communication with White House officials about Trump’s machinations to overturn President Joe Biden’s victory.

Text messages between Trump’s former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and Ginni Thomas revealed the justice’s wife to be enraptured by baseless conspiracy theories about election fraud and involved in plotting with the White House to overturn Trump’s loss.

Email messages from Thomas to state lawmakers, including those in Arizona, revealed her efforts to pressure Republican state legislatures to reject Biden electors and appoint fake electors in support of Trump. These fake GOP elector slates, which included Ward, could then be submitted to Congress as part of Trump’s plan to get then-Vice President Mike Pence to reject Biden’s electors and declare Trump the victor.

The glaring lack of self-awareness is ******* hilarious.

good to win, yet that Arizona election was very close.

it is disturbing that a person as stupid as kari lake , gets 49 % of the vote.

this voter stupidity problem is not easy to fix.

New addition to the list: Rupert Murdoch, his family and enablers can royally go f*ck themselves.

I don't care it's being reported that grossness isn't backing grossness in his bid for the White House.

The amount of f*ckery Murdoch and crew have caused we may never recover from.

Arizonans know BS when they see it.

.......Yup.

Looks like Trump is going to announce another presidential bid tonight, the infighting in the GOP is going to be popcorn watching fun as they rip each other to sheds. Trump has given his enemies so much ammunition to use against him and the only people that will support him will be the bottom of the barrel garbage that can will in the midterms let alone a general election.

Trump apparently making a “big announcement “ tonight at 8:00 pm CST. Some Twitter debate that he may run under “The Trump Party” and not as a Republican. Would this help Republicans (deniability of association with him for those with short memories, could pull back the moderates who would not vote for Trump but otherwise would never vote Democrat) or hurt them (Republican Trump supporters split enough of the GOP vote to definitely lose to Dems in 2024)?

Apparently Trump believes that if he declares his candidacy, he will somehow immune from prosecution. There is no basis in law for this or even an arguable possibility of winning but that sort of thing has never stopped Trump before. He has, in the past, used the courts to intimidate others or at least delay things so that his adversary(s) will tire out. He will have a surprise or two coming.
