Jesse got a reaction from Bigblue204 in Around The League: 2018 OffseasonAs Mark points out, this is a ridiculous statement and underlined the double standard. He’s not asking to be paid more for 2017, he’s asking for a raise because he thoroughly outplayed his contract and wants his contract to now reflect that.
We routinely see teams do this when players have a bonus due or get injured or simply don’t play up to their contract. They renegotiate for less, eliminate bonuses, or simply cut ties.

Jesse reacted to Mark H. in Around The League: 2018 OffseasonMoot point - no can ask to be paid more on their 2017 contract
The following year an under-performing player will be cut or paid less - you know it

Jesse reacted to WBBFanWest in Around The League: 2018 OffseasonI agree with you on that. If he believes he's doing the right thing for himself and his family, more power to him.
-
Jesse reacted to Mark H. in Around The League: 2018 OffseasonTotally agree. But somehow the players get portrayed as the 'bad guy' in these situations. We get the media saying things like 'imagine if this was Andrew Harris & Kyle Walters.' I'm not saying he's making the right decision - time will tell. But he doesn't deserve to be called an ass for wanting to do better for himself and his family.
-
Jesse reacted to WBBFanWest in Around The League: 2018 OffseasonHe does have the right to ask for his release. They have the right to say no. He has the right not to play. They have the right not to pay him. Everyone wins!

Jesse reacted to mbrg in Around The League: 2018 OffseasonNot even.
I mean really, 18 regular season games, 3 playoff games, 2 exhibition games. That's 69 hours of work.
Doing some quick math...he's getting paid about $7million dollars an hour! And he could easily sneak out at halftime and do a quick 15 minute shift at 7-11! Probably was!

Jesse reacted to WBBFanWest in Around The League: 2018 OffseasonPersonally, I have no issue with someone who decides to sit out. There are risks involved. Maybe it will work out, maybe it won't. There are risks in playing. If he's decided that the risks of sitting out are less than the risks of playing, so be it. He knows his situation better than anyone. Having said that, I won't shed a tear for anyone who makes $50,000 (plus food and lodging) for half a year, even in TO. There are lots of people who make that amount (or less) annually without any of the perks, and have a family. I'm betting that TO has them too. That's the reality of things. Good luck to Mr. Wilder.

Jesse reacted to Colin Unger in Will Walters go all out at MLB?He was a running back originally. He was only switched to receiver because it would increase his odds of having a CFL career due to the number of Canadian receiver jobs in the CFL.

Jesse got a reaction from BigBlueFanatic in Around The League: 2018 OffseasonFrom reading your posts over the past few pages, I can see that you are dead set in your opinion and you wont change it. But here is why I personally disagree with you.
A. No, I am not rich. But both me and my wife (one kid on the way) make more than 50k a year and we're hardly rolling in the cash. And our cost of living is a fraction of what his expenses would be.
B. To play a professional sport is a full year job, you're simply only paid for half that year. It's certainly not as simply as "get a real job".
C. His kids and family are relevant because he is a person. And if he can't afford to live on 50k, then he needs to make a change.
D. Football players risk more than tearing an acl or breaking bones. Surely you know that they are not just "playing a game" for a living. The risk of CTE, or early onset arthritis in your joints making in painful to move or cause you to become dependent on pain killers. No, I would absolutely not put on pads for 50k a year.
Anyways, just my opinion. I think he should be able to make the decision to sit out if he feels it is best for him.

Jesse reacted to Brandon Blue&Gold in Around The League: 2018 OffseasonAs someone that works in a factory/industrial setting I can tell you firsthand that my job is nowhere near as physically dangerous as a football player's job is. Plus I can do my job baring any drastic health issues until retirement age. The best a football player can hope for (outside Tom Brady or a kicker) seems to be late 30s.
If a Team can cut a player whenever they like even with a contract then I have no problem with Wilder trying to get more $$$. He may not succeed but I wish him luck all the same.

Jesse got a reaction from blue_gold_84 in Will Walters go all out at MLB?Because they had a better option at RB. Doesn't bode well for his CFL future at the position.
He's probably best used as an Andre Durie type hybrid, but his injury issues are concerning.
-
Jesse reacted to Bigblue204 in Around The League: 2018 OffseasonSo basically Wilder is saying, he has a choice. Stay home take a higher paying job with less risk of injury. Or leave home for less money and serious risk of injury. He's gotta do what he feels is best for his family. And from the sounds of it, the CFL isn't that right now. I can stand behind that. Gotta do what you gotta do.
I can relate, in that I had to leave a job I loved dearly due to lack of pay. It was at a non profit so obviously different situation. But I didn't want to go, my employers didn't want me to go. But at the end of the day I had a child on the way and I have to take care of my family.
Not sure how anyone can fault a guy for that.

Jesse reacted to rebusrankin in Around The League: 2018 OffseasonI can see his point and pretty sure that others can find examples of guys let out of contracts to pursue the NFL.

Jesse got a reaction from SPuDS in Will Walters go all out at MLB?We definitely need an alternate for Wild for when/if he gets injured. Assuming that Leggett is re-signed and JSK is filling one of our LB slots, Wild needs to be rotational or have a strong candidate behind him.

Jesse reacted to WBBFanWest in Darian Durant signs with BombersWe have Dressler and he's built as close to the turf as you can get, so maybe, this all works out.
-
Jesse reacted to bluto in Darian Durant signs with BombersWhen did you trade for James Wilder Jr?
-
Jesse reacted to rebusrankin in CJOB Bombers Show Monday Jan 22I hear they help you make it level, make it level, make it level once more.

Jesse got a reaction from Logan007 in Bomber Moves 2018Hopefully so.

Jesse reacted to Booch in Darian Durant signs with BombersDo we even know if he is making bigger bucks?
I highly doubt it and it prob has a clause in it for any starts he may get due to injury...nichols failing etc...good move to pick him up regardless.
If it means Davis has to go..so be it..the trade off of Durant and rookie 3rd string would be less than we woulda payed for Davis and Lefevour.
We now have a guy who is familiar with coordinator.. an important receiver in Dressler and a guy who is a proven qb who can win and has seen all the defensive looks a qb will see in a game and will give us best chance to win games.
I going to like to see Durant on the short yardage plays stay in in cheetah like Lefevour..but actually make the next play and have ability to stay on field for several plays and run our offence against a jumbo set who cant get off the field..
