I read Matt's comments on twitter.  They were unfortunate as he totally misunderstood the situation & why fans were booing.  All I can say is that what happened was completely Mike O'Shea's fault. The fans wanted to see Streveler play. He came in & looked good & then inexplicably was pulled by O'Shea. Fans were surprised & unhappy & they booed when Nichols went back out in the middle of the drive. They were booing the decision & not Nichols. I've seen some really stupid coaching decisions over the years but this one really takes the cake. There was absolutely no reason to put Nichols back in at that point. Not only was it ridiculous  to pull Streveler but now Nichols has lashed out at fans because he thinks they were booing him when they weren't.  O'Shea may have caused irreparable damage with his decision.  Two questions now are will fans forgive Matt for his outburst?  Will Nichols be happy playing here even if they do?  Let's give a slow clap to Mike O'Shea for that Brainiac decision & the fallout from it.  Seems that it isn't the players that still have a lot to learn. It's O' Shea himself.

    Game Notes - CFL.ca
    👁‍🗨 1-2 combo:
9/21: The Bombers have allowed just nine sacks, fewest in the CFL, and have 21 quarterback sacks – most in the league.
Bombers vs REDBLACKS: Ottawa has won once in Winnipeg since joining the CFL in 2014 but overall are 4-4 vs the Bombers despite losses in their last three meetings. Matt Nichols has started the last 6 games for Winnipeg vs Ottawa and is 3-3. A key statistic from last year's season series was the Bombers' 5-1 advantage in the Turnover battle which aided their sweep.
👁‍🗨An amazing stat - +16 point leads in 5 games in a row: The Bombers have built at least a 16-point lead in each of their last 5 games - that is just one short of the club record of 6 straight set in 1981 (Sep 27/81-Nov 1/81: leads of +36, +24, +31, +32, +20, +38). The CFL record is games in a row with a lead of 16 points
Trevor Harris: Last week, Harris completed 44-of-54 passes and was just one completion short of the CFL record of 45 set by Henry Burris on Oct 1/15 (45/53). Harris' 54 attempts were the most ever thrown in Ottawa history, and in the 4th Quarter alone last week, Harris went 12-of-15 for 128 yards in leading his 11th career Q4 Game-winning drive.
    - Fastest to 60 Receptions: This year Brad Sinopoli has a CFL-leading 60 catches in his first 8 games.
    - 40 wins for O'Shea: Last week's win over Hamilton was the 40th of his regular season career. Mike can move up to #5 all-time in Blue Bombers history with a win this week and move ahead of Mike Riley - he can be as high as #4 by season's end with a 5-5 finish.
1st Down Rushing Avg: Despite having the CFL's #2 rusher in William Powell, the REDBLACKS have averaged the lowest number of yards on 1st down rushing plays. They have gained just 4.8 yards per 1st down rush and that ranks #9 overall. By contrast, Winnipeg is tied with Montreal for #1 in the CFL at 6.2 yards per 1st down rush.
Since 2015, Ottawa has the most wins vs Western clubs of any East Division team with 15.
    - Lewis Ward 96%: Ward began his career with a 3-for-4 FG performance in the season opener and since then has not missed a kick of any kind. Ward is now 25-for-26 96.2% with a streak of 22 makes in a row, the longest streak ever made by a 1st Year player. 👁‍🗨Not too bad for an undrafted player..
    - Greg Ellingson: Had a huge bounce-back game last week with 11 catches for 110 yards, his first 100-yard game since Game #1. His 11-catch total compared to just 12 in his previous 4 games, the lowest 4-game total he had had since m id-2016.
    - Ottawa's 4th Q Game-winning drive: The REDBLACKS' 4th Quarter GW drive last week was their 5th across the 2017-18 seasons. That ranks #3 in the CFL over this two-year span: #1 Edmonton 8, #2 Toronto 7, #3 Ottawa 5. Their game-winning TD last week came with 0:15 to play after a 7-play, 69 yard march in 2:06.
    - Ottawa’s Brad Sinopoli already has 60 receptions through eight games. He is one of only three players in CFL history to have accomplished that feat, joining Derrell Mitchell (64 catches in seven games in 1998, en route to a league-record 160) and Allen Pitts (62 catches in eight games, finishing with 118).
CFL Game #44 Team Trends – Ottawa at Winnipeg:
    - Andrew Harris 6,988: Needs the following rushing yard totals this week to achieve a variety of accomplishments:
    - 7 yards to pass Earl Lunsford (6,994) for #14 all-time
    - 12 yards to become the 14th player to reach 7,000 for his career
    - 20 yards to pass **** Shatto (7,007 corrected career total) for #13 all-time
    - 73 yards to pass Jim Evenson (7,060) for #12 all-time

    - Bombers East & West: The Bombers are 1-2 vs Western rivals but a solid 4-1 vs the East. They are 16-5 vs the East since 2016.
    - 17-2, 23-4: Over the last 3 years (2016-18), Winnipeg is 17-2 when they lead after the 1st Quarter and 23-4 with a half-time lead.
    - Deep TD throws: The Bombers have given up a CFL-low 2 TD passes on 20+ yard throws; Ottawa has allowed a league-high of 8.
    - 2-Pt Convert comparison: The Bombers have attempted a CFL-low 1 two-point convert; Ottawa has tried a league-high of 9.
    - 1st Half vs 2nd Half: The Bombers have a +96 scoring margin in the 1st half thus far; but ... they are just +1 in 2nd halves.
    - 1st Half vs 2nd Half II: Ottawa also is 1st Half strong at +20 in the first 30:00 and ... are -5 in 2nd halves.
    Random CFL Notes and streaks:
    - Most QB Starters Single Season: Montreal has used 4 different QB starters this year and with Johnny Manziel questionable for Week #10 may lead to Antonio Pipkin or Matthew Shiltz being #5 for them. The CFL record is 6 different starters by Winnipeg in 1983 (Dieter Brock, Tom Clements, Norman Gibbs, Nickie Hall, John Hufnagel and Mark Jackson).
    - Calgary +17 T/O Ratio: The Stamps are at +17 for their 2018 Turnover advantage - that +17 mark after 7 games is on pace for +44 which would break the CFL record set by Edmonton in 1981 at +41. Calgary's club record is +27 set in 1996.
    - McLeod Bethel-Thompson: Led the Argos to a 42-41 victory over Ottawa. Here are a few superlatives from that game
    1) From 24 down I: The Argo comeback matched the 8th-largest in CFL history, just 3 points short of the CFL record from 27 points.
    2) From 24 down II: 2nd-largest in Argos' history, one point less than their 25-point recovery of Oct 2/94 (11-36 to HAM, won 39-36).
    3) Half-time deficit: They trailed by 21 at half-time and won matching the 3rd-largest in CFL history after 30:00 of play.
    4) 4 TD pass debut: One of six players with 4 TD passes in their 1st career start. CFL record: An incredible 8 TDs by Joe Zuger 1962)
(Ricky Ray 2002, Matt Dunigan 1984, Condredge Holloway 1975, and Ron Reeves 1983 also had 4 TD debuts)
    5) 2nd Half Passing: Bethel-Thompson passed for 233 yards and 4 TDs in the 2nd half alone.
    6) Q4 game-winning drive: Drove 86 yards on 11 plays in 1:44 going 5-of-7 for 60 yards with completions to four different receivers.
    - Calgary +14: Stamps tied a CFL record at 7 games in a row with at least a 14-pt lead matching the 1982 Bombers and 2011 Lions.
    – Bombers safety Taylor Loffler on the evolving defence:
We’re doing a lot of different things, changing the looks up, which is nice, from the previous years. Our defence is able to do that and it’s made a big👁‍🗨(hill) difference out there. It gives the offence we’re playng against different looks and they can’t know exactly what we’re going to do every time. We’ve definitely come a long ways and we definitely still have a long ways to go. But it’s really looking up right now and we just need to keep going from here. We had a little bit of a rocky path there to start… we’d have a good game and then have a bad game, but we’ve been a lot more consistent over the last month and just keep steadily improving. We can’t take a step back. We have to keep going on an upward path.”

I also agree, this used to be my primary site for bomber news and information. Including interesting blog like posts by people like do or die, big blue, and great insight from others like Mike. I also always enjoyed Noellers and 17to85 whit and Tobe honest found Nasty Nate to be entertaining.

Now we have maybe three threads and I just don't have the interest of going through the long threads or as others have said missed out on the conversation. A discussion forum should be setup in a way to promote discussion, however, we have really tried to limit the number of discussions on this board.

To be honest the off season thread has merit, so does the in season moves, etc. But why limit discussions to only those threads, I want to know how practice is going, I want the insight from those who know about DB play to rate our DBs.
Hell, I even like reading about moves of other teams that might affect us, is edmonton starting a bunch of backups? How are their replacements, what matchups will be interesting? All of that is interesting and worth discussing to me.
Each deserves it's own thread to easily carry on the conversation for hours or days.

I very much miss the days that there were smaller more concentrated threads. I know I don’t post much and lurk far more, but I absolutely hate digging through big long threads and going back multiple pages trying to figure out where I left off.
Leading into today, I feel like a stand-alone thread discussing who we thought would/should be the starting QB would’ve been good to have separate. I actually think most major news deserves its own thread and have found it much more frustrating navigating the site since the change to big, multi-page, catch-all threads. It’s just weird to jump into a thread and see a dozen different conversations happening, and have to read every quoted message to understand what someone is replying to.
The software naturally prioritized new posts, so threads that aren’t popular will naturally die off anyway. What’s the problem with many threads? If a topic doesn’t interest you, just ignore it. Still easier and quicker to sift through 20 thread titles than 20 pages on a post to determine if you’re interested or not.

I've never liked the big specific threads either like 2018 Bomber Discussion or an Off Season Thread. I too, much prefer specific threads as they happen.  As you say it gets very cumbersome. When I've been away awhile I find I have to go to the end of a thread like that & work my way back a few pages to get the jist of what is being discussed. So, you're points are valid.   At  least to me.

I like pointed specific threads about different topics.  The one big thread and thirty pages is frustrating etc.  I used to use this site to keep up to date on the latest bomber news but now I find /cfl on reddit alerts me way faster. I just have to look at the subreddit and all the news has its own thread.   People don’t always comment on them but I see them and then jump here and wade through the 30 page posts to see what everyone thinks.
Nate used to start threads about everything and although I found his ideals a bit insane I like reading and commenting on posts.
Now, by the time I get through the 2-3 pages I’ve missed out on the part I wanted to comment on because it’s moved past it in the following  hours and days so I end up not posting and reading only.

when I start getting news about Nichols or Bighill type news from an co-worker that doesn’t follow the bombers.  Something is broken and I used to see news topics posted on here and OB and knew as soon as it happened.

I also used used to enjoy all the links to bomber news/twitter/websites that people posted but that went away here too so now I just check reddit and then hope to catch it in the main thread here before it moves along.

Also so I don’t find big blue annoying at all. I’m on here because I like talking g and reading about he bombers and enjoy the insight and excitement a lot of posters have.   If I find someone annoying , I do what I do in the real world, put up with it or ignore it and read one.

I actually prefer more threads rather than less. I find the long, all-encompassing threads difficult to follow, especially if I haven't checked in over a few days. Having a big thread, for example "Bombers News," actually slows discussion, in my opinion. There are various topics to discuss, but they all get smashed together so none really gain traction. Plus, big news such as Streveler being named starter gets pushed a few pages back very quickly.
I think any major news should warrant its own thread. Chris Streveler named starter for Week 1, for instance, is a major topic that can carry its own thread. For those of us who want to chat about that news, having it centralized in one spot would be great. That way other news can also get its own attention. There have been times when I've wanted to discuss a topic but by the time I've got to it other CFL/Bomber news has taken over that thread.
I don't think there is a need for so many opinion threads - because if you have an opinion about a topic its most likely that the topic itself warrants a thread. Again, your opinion on Streveler would go under that category. We don't need a thread for someone to personally state they are happy or unhappy about it, 'cause then it'll just be 50 different small threads on it.

Yourface reacted to Atomic in How many threads do you want?
People want to come here and read about big news.  Whether that is Adam Bighill signing in Winnipeg or Johnny Manziel signing in Hamilton.  We don't need to cram those into "Offseason Discussion".  I don't see why that is remotely necessary.  We are not in danger of running out of space, as far as I know.
I think there is a place for a "Bombers weekly thread" but if something big happens, like Matt Nichols going down with injury in practice, that NEEDS its own thread.  I should be able to come here and click on exactly the thread I want and read instant commentary from the community.
I agree with others that there is no need for "This is my random thought" threads.
But the absolute WORST thing is having someone come on here and post some news, and the first comment is "Why isn't this in mega-thread-123?"  How unbelievably annoying.
I'd like this site to be as accessible as possible.  The new season is starting and it would be nice to attract some new thoughts and viewpoints.  Having multiple clearly defined, smaller threads is the way to attract new readers who eventually become new posters.  It's all about speed and ease-of-use.

    CFL Game Notes..
The 2018 season opener between Edmonton and Winnipeg will be the earliest regular season game in league history by one day - the previous record was a game on June 15, 2004 between Saskatchewan and Toronto (21-10 Argos).
 Season #61: The founding leagues of the CFL were formed in 1907 in the East (as the IRFU), and in the West in 1936 (as the WIFU). These two formerly independent leagues formally united in 1958 to form the Canadian Football League and standardize playing rules across the country. The 2018 CFL year will mark the 105th season of Canadian football, and the 61st as the CFL itself.
QBs straight from college to a Week #1 starting role: The Blue Bombers may start rookie Chris Streveler in the 2018 CFL opener and if so that will end a 24-year period without that unique event happening.
 East vs West - 2016-17: In 2017, East Division clubs won only 10 of their 40 meetings against Western rivals (29-10 for the West with one tie). That made it such that an East Division team captured the Grey Cup for the second straight year despite this wide imbalance in regular season inter-divisional play (28-11-1 for the West in 2016). The East has won the overall season series vs the West just once since 2005, but won the Grey Cup in 5 of those 13 years.
CFL Season Openers: Going back to 2008 across 10 CFL seasons, here is a look at how our clubs have fared in their Game #1 with four teams tied at six wins out of 10. Calgary has gone 6-3-1 since 2008 but has not won a season opener since 2015. Montreal is 6-4 but have a two-year win streak (2016-17), the only club with more than one in a row. Saskatchewan is also 6-4 but have lost their last three season openers, the longest active opener losing streak in the CFL.
Toronto comes in at 6-4 since 2008 while Hamilton has been by far the slowest starter at just 1-9 in season openers winning only in 2016. BC has started slowly having won only in 2016 over the last five years (3-7 since 2008). Winnipeg and Edmonton are each at 5-5 since 2008 but the Bombers are 3-1 over the last four years.
Going back to 1958 and the formation of the CFL, the AWAY club has won MORE times than home clubs leading 32 wins to 27 with one tie (54% of the time).
 Opening Rosters to Start 2018: Of the 493 players that appeared on the initial Week #1 CFL rosters here is a set of breakdowns of how they are made up with some details by Division and team. A total of 323 players returned to their same club from 2017 while 89 players moved from other clubs. For 2018, opening week rosters consisted of 16% of the players in their first CFL year.
     Total
    Returned to same team 323 (65.5%) TOR 48, HAM 41, CGY 40, EDM 39, WPG 35, OTT 33, MTL 32, SSK 31, BC 24
    Veterans on New Teams 89 (18.1%) MTL 13, OTT 10, SSK 9, WPG 9, EDM 9, TOR 7, CGY 6, HAM 3
    First-year CFL players 81 (16.4%) MTL 18, OTT 12, HAM 12, SSK 11, CGY 9, WPG 7, BC 6, EDM 4, TOR 2
Of the nine 1st Round picks made in the 2018 Draft, six appeared on 2018 opening week rosters. Only Hamilton (#1 Mark Chapman), Saskatchewan (#5 Dakoda Shepley) and Toronto (#9 Ryan Hunter) did not have their #1 selection join their season-opening roster. Among the 18 players selected in the first two rounds in 2018, 14 of those players (78%) made it onto 2018 CFL rosters.
