Bauming reporting that Knox got first team MLB reps yesterday and now Hurl is getting them today... is he mixed up?
Hard to believe we might actually be considering Hurl as potential starting MLB...

Was listening to 1290 today interviewing Rod Peterson. He was pretty candid in describing the Rider training camp as being close to desperate, but of interest was his anointing of Brian Bennett as clearly no worse than the second best QB in camp. Mr. Young is looking lost and disinterested.

Other receiver observations (not necessarily new) :
Darvin Adams and Weston Dressler make hard catches look easy.
Clarence Denmark still has that corner route
JFG should be looking over his shoulder. Coates looked better. Runs much better routes. JFG shows effort but he was not getting open. Richards didn't look out of place at all. Thera-Plomendon looked solid but unspectacular.
Good to hear that Richards hasn't been injured yet, and might even be a legit receiver. Maybe Feoli-Gudino hasn't had enough pressure to make him jack up his game. I'm hoping that someone will separate himself from the pack of NI receivers.

There's some serious gnashing of teeth from others on this site, by you beating them to the punch with this stinker.
I was going to say that he's a dead ringer. Or the sign on the cattle breeder's gate which read, "For Whom the Bull Toils".

It makes it look like Nichols had a pile more balls that could be pick off than Riley but it's only one more pass could be pick off that was. So if Nichols was the most unlucky quarter back in the league he would of thrown 12 int.
Considering the dog's breakfast Nichols had for receivers last season, he did remarkably well. That said, I hope one of the quarterback candidates really pushes him for the starting job.

Worth a roster spot as a depth player with the right passport who can fill in for an injury should one occur mid game... but that doesn't make him an extremely talented player. Fact is that the OL got way way better when Neufeld got hurt last year and was replaced, god willing one of the younger guys will show themselves to be better depth and we can rid ourselves of this Kyle Walters pet project once and for all.
As much as it might grind Jones, his ratio/talent problems ought to make him near-desperate for a serviceable NI O-lineman before too long.

I'm predicting Spooner is the real deal and surpasses both Couture and Intzandt by year's end.
Spooner's CV suggests that he is capable.

Fear not, I hear the Chris Jones has Matt Leinart on speed dial if Vince Young doesn't work out.
Not Ryan Leaf?

We'll win 8 I think
If all the stars line up, maybe. I suspect, as others here have that the Riders are probably looking at a 6 & 12 season if Glenn stays healthy. All that stupidity swirling around the team has to have an impact on the players. Maybe the novelty of a new stadium will offset some of that, but I think Jones is going to have to walk on water to get anywhere near .500 and avoid the guillotine.

Would that indicate that he is even more "rapey" than before?

Here's how I look at the Geoff Gray situation: him not being here doesn't really matter, because we don't need him right now. If he comes, great. But let's not kid ourselves, he wouldn't likely be starting for us this year. MAYBE next year.
Ideally, what I think our best course of action is would be to see the line transition from:
Bryant-Bond-Goossen-Chungh-Hardrick
to maybe something like (once ready)
Bryant-Bond-Goossen-Chungh-Gray
and hopefully in time
Bond-Spooner-Goossen-Chungh-Gray
But truthfully, I think the reality of the situation is that we're going to eventually lose a couple of these guys. Hopefully we can parlay a guy like Couture or Spooner into either a replacement for a guy currently on our roster or into an asset that can help us elsewhere. We're officially at the point where our pipeline is likely a little full with Goossen, Chungh, Spooner, Couture and Gray. They're not all going to play for us.
My hopes for our OL this year is that they think enough of Couture that we can say see ya later to Neufeld.
It wasn't that Neufeld was all that bad (apart from his injuries), its just that he wasn't all that good, either.

Looks like the bombers are most stacked (concerned?) at left corner and middle linebacker. Hmmmm....

Scribblings...
Wally Buono on the Stamps
“John and Dave have done a great job building their team, building their nucleus and you’ve got to be factual and say ‘if you can’t beat the best, then you’re not going to be the best’. We competed at certain points but at the end it wasn’t good enough.”
I think when you look at all the Western teams, they’ve all made moves to improve their football clubs,” he added. “The West is always very, very, very competitive and I don’t believe this year it’ll be any different.
Justin Dunk - Per sources, the diminutive Brandon Banks has agreed to a re-worked contract that will see him take a $50,000 pay cut in the final year of his deal.
CFL Headlines
Calgary Stampeders ink final unsigned player from 2017 CFL draft - Tunde Adeleke
With a surprise retirement from Karl Lavoie and a Canadian draft that didn’t net the Stamps a top-flight lineman this spring, the team has made a move with Smith, who has spent the majority of his first three seasons on defence. He’s now permanently switching from No. 90 to 69, signifying his move over to guard.
I'm sure Mr. Smith will enjoy 69 more.

I'm not backing anyone. I liked the Gray pick and understand the reasons behind it. However, that does not make it any less of a risk. Trying to portray it as a pick that has no potential to be a blown pick is just plain false. Walters rolled the dice that Gray will be back...hopefully he is...but if he never comes back then he blew a first round pick.
At this point and time, Gray is a first round pick of ours that we do not have under contract. Simple as that. The reasons are irrelevant because the cost was the same. Would any BC Lion fans say that Danny Watkins was not a wasted first round pick? I doubt it.
And I am betting that Grey will be back within 12 months. Too much better-coached competition down there.

Like I said, Im an optimist BUT i can see when I've made mistakes. even I was saying it was time for him to move on towards the end. I still contend Kelly was in a really shitty situation and that he could have made it work but it was the best move at the time.
There is not enough Shinola in the world to polish that turd.

As much as I heap scorn on the Priders, I still have friends in Sask. and almost all are horrified at the goings-on in Regina. I thought that Mike Kelly would have set the CFL record for earning mockery and humiliating fans, but this is a whole different level of stupidity and arrogance. When the fans in Sask have had enough, the treatment a certain kicker received in Regina will seem like a warm hug by comparison.
