So let me get this straight... Ripper says LeFevour is proven to be bad.  However on only a few weeks notice he managed 330 yards and four TDs against us.

Ripper also says Nichols only looked good because of our awesome defense and essentially  Nichols only put up numbers because of the D.

    I love Rider logic....

Isn't that an oxymoron- like "military intelligence"?

Matt Nichols is still the starter but Mike O'Shea has stated he is "on thin ice" due to having a child recently.  MOS believe players should be totally focused on football.

Clarence Denmark was busted in the off-season for steroids so he'll miss the first 4 games of the season.

Against everyone's better judgment, the Bombers drafted only "players who could bench more than 25 reps at the combine".  Walters stated that "CIS football is low quality so I don't bother watching game film."

The Bombers traded next year's first round pick to the Alouettes for SJ Green but he retired recently.

Terrence Edwards recently came out of retirement but he's dealing with a turf toe issue.

And  you forgot to mention that as a result of his usage of steroids, Denmark cannot play in the CFL this season but has been cleared to run in the Kentucky Derby.

Damn. I didn't realize the O'Shea was pregnant, let alone having given birth. Gotta keep up.

yea because Nichols was so horrible for us last season??

No, because Willy was showing every sign every game that he was broken and yet O'Shea kept trotting him out. Almost to a man (and Jackie), this forum knew Willy was done for and there was good evidence that the team knew it as well, but on Willy went. But that horse has been beaten to death already. Nichols was a a godsend. Wait, no. He was a Walterssend.

^^^ Both of those........he knew he wasn't going to start here, knew it was a ****-show in Regina and his odds of playing were far greater there. Can you blame him??

If Bennett didn't think he could beat Nichols out in a fair matchup, we are well rid of him and both he and the Riders deserve each other. If Bennett saw that O'Shea would keep starting Nichols no matter what, that would concern me. We seen that movie before.

Thanks to all of you attending camp and providing insight and observations.  Love this time of the year.

Speaking of Rock puns, are their rules around the "music" played?  For example, could they play "Do you smell what the Rock is cooking" if/when Roc makes an INT?  I was always waiting for the Jets to play "Im Buff and Im the stuff" when Buff laid a guy out but they never did.  (Maybe for the best).  I think Carolina does (or did) play Ric Flair Wooooo'ing when they score... And Tampa uses Hogan (is it Tampa)?

Well, there is the Simon and Garfunkle 60's song.

I agree. I think Nichols has more upside. He took a big step forward last year. Conventional thinking would suggest he keeps going this year and hopefully even takes another step forward to higher level. he has had a entire offseason to actually plan as being the starter, something he hasn't had in a long time. I would love to see him play well( except against us). I have never said I was a huge Glenn fan. ALL I have said is the two are very similar at this point. Both have had INT issues in the past. Both have done well when they have had a good team around them and they weren't expected to be the savior. I guess I am defending the point that some here seem so sure Glenn will be  a huge failure this year. I don't see that happening. He will do well in our quick read offense where he doesn't have to hang onto the ball too long.  We have a lot better receiving core than many here want to admit, that will be a huge asset. Are we on the verge of winning the cup this year? of course not, but Glenn is a stop gap to get us through and keep us competitive in the mean time.  That he will do

In comparing the two, I see Nichols as being more competition in personality- he wants to win and Glenn just doesn't seem to have the damn-the-torpedoes-full-speed-ahead mentality. This might be better for Glenn's longevity but does not endear himself to the fans.

No, but on this- you have to acknowledge that he did the right thing and give him props for it.

He still sucks as coach and gm.

We don't know if Jones was given direction by the board, but regardless, for all the scorn we have heaped on Jones and Co., this was heartening. Not only is Cox's pro football career over, his life is probably over. The legal system down there is particularly hard on backs and repeat offenders,

Ripper, I like you. You come here and you take your lumps and you manage to be more than tolerable, which is waaaay more than I can say for most other Rider fans.

But I've seen this story before. Lots.

Letting go of Durant wasn't the mistake. Letting go of him this year was. If Jones was going to cast off Durant without a proper replacement, he should've done it right from the get go year one. This is going to be the second year wasted because of that decision.

Your defense might be great. I have my doubts, but one never really knows. That being said, I've seen a lot of great Bomber defenses on 6-12 or 7-11 teams because they didn't have a QB. And you don't have a QB.

I think the knock on Durant in the last couple of years with the Riders was his brittleness and poor supporting cast. It seemed to me that during that same stretch, Durant got really beaten up, mentally and physically and lost a good deal of his competitive fire. It was probably time for him to move on, but I have my doubts that Glenn or Bennett are going to lead the team to the Promised Land. Glenn needs an extra count or two plus darned good receivers but if he gets hit, he gets rattled. Bennett- who knows?

With Coates out today, maybe Richards can put some plays together and start showing he belongs.  It would be nice to have a big, fast NI WR in the starting lineup.

Fast is nice, but if Richards can use his size, run good patterns and hang onto the ball, I will happily settle for that. Fantuz has never been a speed merchant, but he got open and hung onto the ball for a darned good career.

Knox was highly touted coming into camp last year... possibly the front runner to win the MLB job... but he got hurt and didn't get a chance to win it (insert Cal Murphy quote here)...

In my view, Bass was Ok, but not great. We have had the need for a homicidal middle linebacker for several years, and I sure hope that either Knox (who apparently comes from a hard school) or Temple is it.

Bauming says the close to $200K in salary between Smith and Waggoner is already spent in restructuring other contracts :(. Hopefully Knox or Temple are the real deal

If O'Shea cannot recognize a good MLB in the making, no one can. Knox didn't take the job away from Bass last year, so it would seem our best hope may be Temple.
