Steinhauer will do just fine as a HC. He is experienced in the CFL, smart and adaptable.

I don't think Nichols is mediocre. He was dealing with a knee injury that probably bothered him all season. Let's see how he does when he comes back healthy next training camp.
If this was predominantly a physical issue, then a week away during the bye week would not have produced the quantum improvement in play. Rather, it would have been a steady, gradual improvement. Moreover, his disastrous play during the two Rider games cannot be ascribed to physical causes. His decision-making was beyond poor. Ergo: the big owie was and maybe still is in his head.

Evan Clark's bio screams "training camp fodder". Underwhelming.

LaPo's system is designed for the qb to not be the star. Dink & dunk. Controlled short to medium passes. Ball possession offense.
Is that not an assumption on your part? Or is LaPolice forced to tailor the offence around a mediocre quarterback and receivers who, as a group, do not scare many defensive coordinators?

Its pretty well known that a lot of people don't like Jones. I don't think however anyone should be able to just report things like this without any proof. If there is more to this, then I want to hear all about it.
Do not underestimate the will and ability of organizations to squelch news such as this. All you need do is look at the Paterno mess etc etc etc. You can even generalize it into the business, entertainment and political realm. If true, and I want to emphasize this, I cannot imagine how damaging this would be to a community-owned and run enterprise like the Riders which is so woven into the cultural life of the province. I worked for an organization who sheltered a sexual predator- the staff and management knew but perp was wired into the the "in crowd" and it took a flagrant incident and another vulnerable victim to get him fired.

Nichols didn't lose the game either. I also think Harris has been in the league long enough to know veteran CFL qbs make more money than starting running backs. Canadian or American.
In a game of that importance, your quarterback ought to be at least one of the stars, and Nichols was not. That is not good.

Riderfans and negative rumours.
Like Taman and Chamblin before him the process is this:
1. Jones will be defended. Critics will be mocked and ridiculed by the select few.
2. Front office becomes leery as negativity mounts. Select few follow suit.
3. More and more negativity is selectively leaked as firing is foregone conclusion. Select few being full participants .
4. Jones is fired. Avalanche of horror stories begins. Jones is now officially a villain, all accomplishments suspect or dismissed. One or more of select few reveals "I knew it all along but didn't want to say anything..." etc.
5. New guy hired. Reset process.
I suggest that the first step is to pretend that nothing happened, "Nothing to see here. Move along".

That's Nichols level praise right there.
That's called "damning with faint praise"- like "for a fat person, you don't sweat very much".

Streveler is under contract to us in 19'...and any event why the hell would he want to go to the big smoke just cuz Lapo hooks up there...He's quite comfortable here and stands a very good chance of becoming the starter with his current team, rather than starting all over from scratch...I'm not concerned at all about Streve being here long term
Plus, if he stays in Winnipeg, he has a good chance of having all of his body parts still attached and working this time next year.

What does part of the sentence 'to the club' mean?
It probably meant that the allegations were brought forward to the board. From the lack of action or announcements from the Rider board to date, it seems likely that they sat on them, possibly because it was mid-season and they didn't want to cause problems. Sadly, this seems to be the norm for organizations and athletic organizations are no exception. Regina is essentially a big small town and if there is truth to this, and the management suppressed these complaints, that would be criminal and the poop (not Johnson) will hit big time in the fan base and community. For all the insults we in this forum heap on the Riders and their fans, I cannot see that this will be simply swept under the rug.Heads will roll. This is way ugly for so many reasons.

From talking to some Rider fans that I know who live in Regina, they told me it's pretty common knowledge that Jones likes his alcohol & spends time in different watering holes in that City.
Being a boozehound does not mean he is automatically a perp.

Damn, those two along with Biggy being gone would be an absolute disaster.
This is the nature of the business of CFL teams- change is inevitable and players moving along is also inevitable. As Calgary has proven repeatedly, how well teams compensate determines success or failure.

Wouldn’t be surprised if all if he goes under the knife pretty soon here. Hopefully he can get back to 2017 mobility.
I would think that if surgery was necessary, it would have happened already. I am of the opinion that Nichols' biggest problem was between his ears.

Considering how quickly Nichols turned his game around after the bye week following the two disastrous outings against the Riders, there has to be a pretty significant shinkological component to his struggles. Nichols received at lot of (deserved) criticism after his poor showing in the western semi-final and that may well affect his confidence going into next year. Or it may undermine the coaches' confidence in Nichols.

Don't know. The guy said he didn't go to the NFL because he could make more money on his family's grain farm
But then why even bother playing in the CFL? That question he could not answer.
And here I thought all they had in southern Saskatchewan were gopher farms.

Like they politicize the NFL at anthem time? I love this campaign and know others who do as well. Nice contrast to the hate and vitriol and phoney patriotism we see down South.
The kerfuffle over players kneeling during the anthem in the NFL was all about Trump throwing red meat to his fan base. Someone said that if Kaepernick had beaten a woman instead of kneeling, he would have been back in the NFL by now.

Some guy in a Lloydminster hotel tried to tell me LaBatte could have made the NFL - but he wanted to stay in SK.
A dozen or so beers will do that.

It would be an awful strategy not to start Gray from day one... we're on a one year contract - get him in the game, get him signed long-term
Nobody, but nobody should be handed a starting job without competing for it. We've had too much of that sort of thing in the past, and look how well it has worked with Manziel in Montreal.

Hey its good to see you back... and salty.
And I'm actually Neuf convert - but who else are we replacing on that line? Gray isn't going to be our 6th OL...
If Gray could play right tackle well, we could have more ratio room to play with. Thus, if Loffler bolts, we are still in good shape to replace him with an import there.

Good analysis by Doug. We should start with moving Nichols to one of the desperate teams in the league and using the extra cap space to sign a bonafide number one receiver.
I should think that we need to have Streveler prove himself to be a starter first. However, to be the devil's advocate, Collaros (yuck) had stats which were not all that much worse than Nichols. I was shocked by that, but if Collaros can still make coherent sentences, does that mean the Bombers could conceivably trade Nichols and sign Collaros on the cheap, leaving cap space for a primo reveiver?
