The one for me that I’m keeping an eye on is if we scratch Haba or Cole tonight. It needs to be Cole.

Are there still game day scratches? For some reason I don't remember them happening anymore last year.

Walker can’t be a designated National, but what they could’ve done is started Haba, DA’d Jeffcoat and then rotated in Caleb Thomas 23 snaps for Jake Thomas.

Much rather have that than any number of snaps for Schmekel for any number of snaps for Jake Thomas

I guess but literally all they had to do was have Haba play the first defensive snap with Jeffcoat on the sideline to give a bunch of flexibility in case they need it.

Exactly. I also read something that this roster posted publicly may not be how they designate if with the refs/league for the game, so maybe they will do that still?

should there not be one on both sides of ball?...

Ya I thought so too. Maybe the only way to do that was to make a designate a starter as the back up like the Stamps and Lions are doing and OSH didn't want to?

I have not heard/seen one reference to Schoen this whole TC. Could have not shown up for all I know.

    Looks like he's back!

Demerio Houston in at boundary corner for Winston Rose, who is not suited up today — he has to be in question for Friday night. Back in for Day 1 of Week 1 prep: Bighill, Jeffcoat, Lawrence, Schoen, and Oliveira, which is very positive news for the #Bombers.

Holy smokes people. Take a step back, lol.

We have an awesome prospect for a 3rd down role. He can run a package, maybe stay on for an extra set of downs ala Strev, and help us win a Grey Cup - doing just that.

Why ya gotta compare him to Hall of Famers and project him to unseat a back up we've all loved for years, who we've been saying would start on most other teams? Why you have to say he's Zach's successor?

    This times 1000

I’m super excited to see him on short yardage and get a package of plays to change it up. But he’s thrown like 15 passes against 3rd stringers, let’s not anoint him yet.

it was Ricky Williams that I was thinking of. I remember being at the game they played in Wpg (my first year as a STH) and sitting in our endzone seats and watching Doug Brown hit him so incredibly hard. I remember quotes from Brown before that game talking about how much he was looking forward to playing RW.... we definitely put a hurt on him. Williams had some quote, at the time, about how he'd likely be able to put up 5k yards in a season up here....

I definitely remember the hype around Williams coming up here and being amped for the Bombers to crush him. Don't remember Williams being an ass about it though or coming in super cocky. Thought that was all the NFL fans dumping on the CFL.

To me, it would not be a great surprise if Castillo and Liegghio were both on the roster at the end of training camp. Kickers do not get hurt often, but they do get hurt, so if one of these two goes down, we have an instant backup.

Worked for the playoffs in 2021.

Leggz is still on his rookie deal, and Castillo already had a bonus paid by Edm so shouldn't be an issue to fit both under the cap.

Good chance both guys will excel in separate roles. Leggz is the better punter. Castillo the better kicker.

Based on what?  He’s not a place kicker in the CFL.  His range is about 35 yards off a tee.  Big leg for punting though.

Bauming must have missed the guy playing for U of C last year.  Thought he usually covers the Bisons.

The only challengers for placekicking are the Americans.

Interesting how deep they are digging on kickers and punters this off-season.  Makes you wonder if they don’t really think they have a shot to re-sign Liegghio or if they don’t want to pay him.

Ya based on his FG stats he's not replacing Leggs as placekicker. Maybe punting (and kick-offs?)

I don’t mind bringing Jeffcoat back, but we obviously need a third (and probably fourth) DE that can rotate in.

The only known guy left that interests me is Shane Ray but obviously he’s pretty injury prone himself and for some reason, I get the sense he’s XFL or USFL bound anyways

Definitely need more rotational ends. Would be nice if Kongbo returns. Hope they bring a bunch of rookies to camp.

I’m wondering if Bailey ends up being a guy who comes back here just because it’s that or the XFL/USFL for him. Seems like he may get caught in a situation where other teams don’t want to pay for the intangibles we appreciate from him.

That makes sense. His intangibles might be hard to see from the perspective of someone outside the team.

Honestly with how under thrown that ball was, Bailey or not, that ball is getting picked.

Maybe the DB covering Ellingson undercuts him for the pick. Maybe Ellingson can change the angle for the catch. Maybe the ball hits the turf.

All I'm saying is that if Bailey doesn't run to that space, the DB covering him (who makes the pick), likely wouldn't have been anywhere near the ball.
