Zach Collaros’s decline was predictable and is sure to continue, but I still think he’s a good QB, and certainly a more proven commodity than Brown. He has sucked in the big games the last couple of years though, which is very frustrating.

No player can win the MOP every year, so I agree with your post that it was inevitable he would eventually lose one. However, ZC is still the best QB in the league....not by as large of a margin anymore...but the numbers and results don't lie.

ZC didnt take a step back...the extra hits...and appearance of being slower to process...was his stubborn nature toget it all in one shot....he went away from the more surgical carving up of teams and reaping the rewards of the bigshots being there from teams trying to adjust...he gets back to that he will be just fine...his seeming to have happy feet, and being spooked in the pocket was a result of that bad tendancy he got in...and is easily fixed.  He then a lot of times foced things he shouldn't have, and you know damn well both he and coaches know this...easily fixed...and sure has been already.

Brown...still not sold on him, and we are just fine with ZC and Strev...probably even better. Strev when his time comes...will turn out to be the better starter than Brown when all said and done...Wish him well, but he in  pretty precarious spot in OTT and can see a world of ugly coming from there...and not all his fault but don't think he has the chops to over come it...and can see him getting smacked arouind a lot there...frustrated....and forcing things and looking very much like a first time starter

I also am on the side of due to his build/body type he takes a beating and it will affect his play...and likely injury woes.....guess we shall see

I agree. Plays that would have seen the ball sailed into the 4th row in previous years, instead became ZC taking some extra risk either in trying to extend or throwing the 50/50. Some of that is on Zac, some is on Buck too for green lighting it. However, that green light was given because of the quality of our receivers imo. If we dial back the risk/reward by 10% this year Zac will look very, very good again.

100% agree. He went from run away MOP to should have been MOP but someone was close enough that fatigue voting was relevant.

Yea..I think we all got a little too spoiled by Zacs brilliance since 2019 last year. He was really good last year.

    This is the correct statement.

I know kids,  I'm scared too. Noeller hit the nail on the head...

Not scared at all. He will be a top 2 QB this year again even if he regresses a tiny bit.

Is that realistic? Every qb gets hit.

I don't think saying keep him clean should be taken literal.

So, I rarely order steak when we eat out, because it's that much better at home

But Friday night, I took the chance on a 12 oz. medium rare sirloin at Montana's

    It was actually quite good

Right on because you are right..Unless you go to a 529 or Hys the steaks are not as good as what I can do for myself at home.

  5. Terrific pickup Chevy!! Toffoli was the guy I wanted. Him and Monahan had great chemistry together in Calgary so getting him heated up shouldn't take long at all. However, this does almost necessitate that Ehlers is on that line and not the first line. Monny and Toffoli need a burner with them because they just don't have the foot speed anymore on the back check, and it can't be Connor because of his defensive play.

Brown wasn't a rookie. In fact, if memory serves me you were on the board talking about how he should never take another snap after his rookie year and absolutely horrible showing.

Sometimes we all have bad takes.

I was on the fence with Collaros vs Brown. I see an argument for keeping both. I'm more inclined to Collaros as he's been there done that. But I'd be lying if I said he didn't regress a bit. He got happy feet often. Forced throws, especially deep. And was late on more than a few occasions with his deep throws leading to contested catches/ints etc. saying all that... all of that with the exception of happy feet have been complaints of mone about his game since 2019.

He's not perfect....but...he's still my Quarterback!!

The only area that Zac "regressed" if you wanna call it that is in ball security. He threw up too many 50/50 balls last year. Other than that, the guy was easily the best QB in the CFL. He wasn't out of this world last year, like the two years before, but when we say take a step back it should be put in context. He stepped back from being an almost unanimous MOP to simply being the top QB in the CFL. And to anyone who say 'ya but Chad Kelly", that was all media and the need for a bonafide star in Toronto. Collaros was better by just about every QB metric.

    Hello Everyone,

longtime reader here. just decided to sign up.

you've all provided great analysis and wondering if like me, you think we should have paid to keep dru after deveoping him and seeing his on field skills?

Your name says it all....StrevyISaBEAST.  I can't prove it, but I think the decision to move on from Brown was decided last year when Strevy came to town and watch a game. I think that there was more going on then that. Discussions with the Bombers started imo.

That being said, Love Dru and think he will be successful. Unfortunately, our QB room is just a little too talented right now to let him have his chance here.  Zach still has a couple good years left, and Dru's time is now.

That’s true. I suspect this is the new normal. Which sucks. Imo we need a developmental system for Canadian kids. The gap between rookie imps and nis has never been bigger.

This year an entire 1st round of talent is going to be gone to the NFL. It's like every draft starts with 2nd round talent now outside of maybe the top 1 or 2 picks.

Cleveland browns are the most successful franchise in modern sports history. Along with the maple leafs.

Don't forget the 4 stripes....but could you imagine being a Leafs fan? No one has ever seen them win a cup on a color TV.

Was hoping we would land him, TO so many reasons to hate...

Edmundson is not the player he used to be. Guy is a defensive black hole now and offers no offence. He does add toughness, but it is at the expense of the scoreboard. His play has badly dropped off from a few years ago. He doesn't crack our starting lineup imo. If we got him as a veteran insurance policy, I suppose that would be OK but not to step in and play.

Ford is raw as a teams guy mostly returning kicks in college and won’t out do exume who got drafted based on teams ability alone and has been doing it at a high level for 4 seasons. Hallett wasn’t our best teams guy at any point in his time here. Clements cut his teeth in this league as a strong teams guy.
We spent the last 3 drafts picking teams guys with little to show for it.

The last 3 drafts haven't been particularly stellar for any teams. We are losing way too much of our top end draft talent to the NFL now.

Any chance we move up in the draft to get some key players?

Maybe, but I think this year should provide us something decent if we don't.

I wasn’t really talking about BOLO as a receiver. I was talking about his ST abilities, which were significantly different than the areas Murphy is going to be able to contribute.

Yea...not seeing Murphy doing much on STs.

Briggs was declining last year , Miller didn't play, Ford will outdo Exume, Hallet is our best and is still here, Cole will see more action and  as you said Caldwallader and Kelly are improving (Caldwallader outplayed Briggs).  We  will also be replacing Clements who wasn't very good at st. We've also changed our st coach.  I think you're being way too negative.

We will also be adding in the draft a few players that are being utilized specifically for st .

The biggest difference will be the change in direction under Miller. I think that Boudreau kinda lost the handle on it last year. Also hoping that we change punters, I think our cover teams were a little out of synch with our punters different style.

The idea of BOLO (big, US college credentials) was much greater than the reality - 25 receptions in two seasons. I watched Jeremy Murphy a lot in RSEQ as my son plays there, and he is definitely a CFL rotational receiver. I predict he will put up better numbers, run better routes, and make tougher catches than BOLO. Not saying he'll be a star, but Murphy will be better than BOLO.

I agree that BOLO's worth may have been a little inflated to many of us, as backup players tend to be in every fan base, but he did show some promise with not many reps.  I hope you are right about Murphy.

I've decided to watch old Bomber games wherever I can find them, as the off season continues to wear on me and I long for football.  Here's my first contribution:

EDIT:  I am pretty sure I was at this game, as a young man, as my dad was a season ticketholder in 1980 and I was able to go to most of the games with him.  The 1980 Bombers will forever be one of my favorite teams of all time.

The Jauch and Brock connection. Some ugly football there. Anyone complaining about the quality of play in the CFL nowadays needs to watch some of these old tapes...lol. However, some of my faves on that team as well thanks for the link!!

if you call him out on those takes which I have in the past then he gets pissed off.

And a couple of years ago he kept saying the Bombers OL was overrated & the Stamps were better. So then, why all the Bomber all stars on the line???

Last year he was convinced the Stamps were turning the corner and about to make a run at 1st in the West and this was around game 12. In his opinion Winnipeg and BC were about to tumble down the standings and Calgary was going to "realize it's talent"...is the term I believe he used. He is the Stamps version of Migs..just delusional.

Not mentioned in this discussion is that the Natl. American rule did not fulfill it's intended purpose of extending the careers of fan favourite veteran American players who were no longer able to secure starting roles, but were still marketable personnel for their team within their communities.  A player like Darvin Adams comes to mind.

What happened within one week of the season starting is a few teams of low character figured out how to subvert the rule intent and twist it to their advantage.  Both Calgary and BC demonstrated this in week #1, having established starters such Kadeem Carey and Dominique Rhymes listed as backups to no-name players who they replaced after the first snap and played the rest of the game, thus subverting the ratio as the 23 play count applies only to the designated starter.

Same thing was done on defence as teams are permitted to have a designated nationalized American on offence and defence.  Game #1 the Stamps used their defensive designation on veteran defensive back Branden Dozier, who started behind rookie Michael Griffin, the Lions subbed vet. Woody Baron in for Global no-name Tibo Debaillie after one snap.

The blame falls on the league for failing to close an obvious loophole on a rule that may have had good intentions and se been worthwhile.  As the rule change failed to achieve what is was designed to do, it should be altered to more accurately serve it's purpose, or immediately be eliminated.

Just scrap the damn rule and be done with it. It just allows GMs and teams to be lazy in their approach to scouting, drafting, and developing NATs.

What it does mean is that we wouldn't need useless uniform fillers like Bennett taking ineffective DL snaps during a game. Could use an American for that and have your Canadian depth  be a useful piece somewhere else.

I agree, however, Bennett was a first year rookie. I think everyone here is being a little harsh on him. If we doesn`t progress this year, it`s a valid argument.,..but every team has to give their high draft picks some reps to develop.

Curious, who does everyone feel we should have selected instead of Bennett at 8th and Kelly at 15th? I'm wondering who the 'big get' that we passed on twice was this year. For the life of me I can't figure it out. Uguak seems like the early hit of 2023 and he was gone at 7. Bemiy taken at 9 might round into a better player by the time he's Bennet's age but til then he's currently statistically trailing Bennett and I don't recall him standing out in any big way. Just curious 🤔

Last year`s draft was generally considered pretty weak. I`m not sure we do anything good with the picks.

Ryan Ballantyne. He isn't credible because he's a Stamps Boi. He doesn't care about other teams. Just the Stamps. He believes he's a credible member of the CFL media. I disagree because he's a Stamps fan. My feeling if you want to be considered a member of the legit "media" then you can't show your biases when you're reporting stories & have to be neutral. I've occasionally had the odd run in with him online. (Surprise, surprise ;) ).... He doesn't like it if someone questions his analysis.

Ballantyne can`t be considered media because his bias would never allow him to view the CFL realistically. Not a slam on him, I would probably have the same problem, but anything he writes is out to lunch because he so over the top of a Stamps fan. They walk on water to him and are the best team in the CFL that has been having bad luck and are victims of circumstance every game. That wouldn`t be so nauseating if every game prediction or anything else he puts up on 3DN weren`t so directly influenced by how he wants the CFL to be in relation to his Stamps season hopes, as opposed to how it really is. He will make stupid commentary like `Winnipeg Blue Bombers are due for a losing streak against the Edmonton Eskimos and Calgary Stampeders in their next two games vaulting the Stamps into a playoff spot`` and then use that reasoning to pick Edmonton as some gospel truth.

Last two years this team should’ve handily won the gc. Underachieving the main goal with the best team isn’t an achievement. Take the best roster and team and finish with a great record that’s kind of expected.

Marty Schottenheimer is a great example of a nfl coach who was considered great, but underachieved when it counted most. He got the rap of a guy who could turn a team around and could take you to a big game but not win it. Mos isn’t a Marty. But he’s also not a bill Walsh. At the end of the day, his teams don’t hate losing enough. Culture is more important to him than winning.

I`m not arguing that we didn`t maximize our utilization of it. Every coach has his own style and I hate comparing them because the differences between even coaches that seem similar are sometimes pretty big. MOS is MOS. He has some major strengths, and some minor weaknesses is how I would assess him.

    5 minutes ago, Pete said:

Using the nationalized rule, doesnt mean you have more americans on the starting roster it only means you can play them for a limited amt of snaps in place of cdn. Your cdn backups remain the same. The third cdn safety isnt taking starter reps regardless.

    Yes, I understand the rule.
