Moving Chris Randle to SAM Was A Stroke of Genius
Captain Blue replied to Atomic's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Randle was better at SAM today. Still best at corner. Top tier corner > decent linebacker (or really, dime back), in my opinion. -
Bombers/Als Gameday Non-Chat Room Non-GIF Thread
Captain Blue replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Other than that major gaff I thought the refs. did a decent job tonight. It wasn't a flagfest like other games have been so it seems as if the players are starting to play to the rule changes. The first half seemed to have a ton of flags, and then very little in the second. I think they're still struggling to figure out consistency. Did both teams magically improve in the second half or did they just decide to put their whistles away? -
Bombers/Als Gameday Non-Chat Room Non-GIF Thread
Captain Blue replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I will keep battling this idea that the Bombers were bad. Ya, this one wasn't nearly as pretty or efficient as the W against the Riders. Still I thought both teams played well tonight. Bombers' offense couldn't finish their drives but they still moved the ball. Willy makes all the difference. The passing game was so much more effective. They had the right idea with hot routes tonight but still have to sharpen them. Couple of knockdowns by the DL hurt them too. I think the offense after two games with Willy overall has a positive outlook. Montreal was extremely aggressive tonight but the Bombers didn't fold like they did last week. The D has 3-5 breakdowns a game. Today we survived despite those, but they still need to be cut down. I thought they looked like they were sorting things out more. Leggett was much more like the safety we saw last year, and like Willy, has a huge impact on his side of the ball. The weak spot still is the DL. We can't get pressure and that's why QBs are putting up big numbers. The new guys on the line helped a bit, so I'm hoping that they continue to tinker to find the right combo. People in the chat complained about the run D but I thought that wasn't an issue tonight. Lots to work on, but growth in the right direction. I'm pretty pleased with the outing. -
How does everybody feel about this "coverage"
Captain Blue replied to Mike's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I could appreciate this if their columns also weren't complete ****. But that might be more my opinion than anything. The whole business model is complete crap and because they refuse to change to fill a need, they're going to go extinct. For instance, their writers hold much more access and availability than the common fan and so you would think this would give them an edge in writing articles. With such an advantage, they should be the ones expected to put out the highest quality work. What's happening at practice? Recent developments to keep an eye on? If you want people to pay for something, provide something of value. Instead, we get the same articles behind a pay wall. Nobody is going to pay for that, certainly not most of the <50 year old crowd. -

I disagree with this. In this new media age, tweeting is part of their job. It should be used to push followers / readers to their columns. It should be to gain trust from and expand their followers base to drive more traffic to their respective papers. Those tweets do nothing to make me want to read tomorrow's column. At least for Bob Irving, he doesn't have a column. "I didn't actually watch practice or do any hard reporting - read the Freep tomorrow!" -
How does everybody feel about this "coverage"

Every time a Jets player sneezes, you hear about it from five media sources and then they have to speculate about it for hours. Is it a virus? My God it could be a virus! Yet we get nothing, absolutely nothing of value by the media on the Bombers. It ticks me off immensely. They get paid to sit and watch football and STILL can't manage to do even to do that. And for those wondering about fan attendance, how would it impact numbers if fans actually had more than crappy newspaper articles to consider? -
I think the real crime here is not being more creative than Oh'Stubborn.

Ya, to be honest if a guy is at least making a play for the ball I'd always be fine with the PI being a 10 yard penalty and first down. It's the ones like the PI's O'Shea had to challenge vs Hamilton where the guy doesn't even know where the ball is and is just trailing the receiver and then stopping him from working to the ball that should be spot fouls. Could go to "intentional" (not playing the ball) and "unintentional" (at least making an attempt on the ball) PI. That's the thing, I've just seen too many plays similar to what we just witnessed being called PI and given the spot on the goal line. If you want to call unintentional PI more frequently I'm all for it but in this one instance, it strikes me as a ref wanting to avoid putting the ball on the one yard line.

When does attendance dip on a consistent basis?
Captain Blue replied to White Out's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
One loss - an ugly one for sure - and suddenly everything goes nuts. Hopefully fans are smart enough to judge the season as an accumulation of games rather than just react to whatever happened in the most recent week. -
Man we are really heading down the hyperbole highway tonight.

I think the Bombers horribly misuse/allot their scoreboard usage. It really hinders the gameday experience.

Where do you like to sit at games
Captain Blue replied to brett_c_b's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Upper deck, 55 yard line, as low as possible. I think those tickets have the best value + view in the whole stadium. My second choice would be lower deck, 55 yard line, as high up as possible. I've always enjoyed being high enough to really see the whole play develop. -
I demand a full refund.

There was that time they wanted Canada's junior team to wear green for a game, just for Saskatchewan...

Addison Richards making pro debut Thursday
Captain Blue replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Glad to hear it. Ran into him at the Bomber Store today, he was picking out a few things so I figured he had family coming in for the game. -
I definitely agree that with so many injuries to star QBs the level of play and overall game takes a big hit. Definitely want to see the QBs well protected. That said, I think the TSN panel and media is dramatizing this as some sort of QB crisis. Injuries happen and this is (sometimes) part of the process that gives new QBs playing time.

I honestly thought I was going crazy thinking that Durant wasn't touched on that play. Not a great night for TSN, as usual. Maybe they should have their next in-game interview span the whole second half next time, just to really get viewer excitement up.

....AND IF we are holding all the cards...I want a damn good football player plus coming back our way...Just remember back when we were in deep do-do and nobody would even lift the receiver....tough game this game of football. Nobody is giving a "damng good football player" for Marve or Portis. Maybe we move one of them, but let's not make the mistake of overvaluing our own third stringers.
