  1. The thing everyone is overlooking is that the whole dynamic of their offense changes. They are able to run so effectively because yes, they have a great OL and a three headed running attack. But the other factor is that Durant has earned the respect of opposing defenses. You can't just key in on stopping the run entirely because Durant is still back there with the ability to hurt you for six points through the air. Tino isn't going to get handed that respect. Especially when teams watch film and see his inconsistency with the intermediate game. He's going to have to prove he can burn you with his arm before the run game can keep on trucking. The offence changes a bit but Tino's been with the team for awhile. Cortez will reconfigure the game plan. The Riders may stumble a bit with Sunseri but it is a great opportunity to get him some reps. I honestly think Tino will be a solid CFL qb. I'm not talking about what the Riders do. I'm talking about what other teams do against them. And that changes. A lot. I assume you believe other teams will stack the box and dare the Riders to pass? I'm sure Cortez will be anticipating that and prepare Tino accordingly. I'm pretty sure the Bombers prepared Kliff Kingsbury accordingly. And Tommy Chang. And Tee Martin. And Ryan Dinwiddie. And Alex Brink. And Joey Elliott. And Sammy Garza. And Brian Randle. And Brian Ah Yat. Hang on, going to go get a drink of water. Brb to finish the Brian section... After reading that list, think I need some rye instead of water.
  2. Do you think the respective fan bases have anything to do with that?
  3. I would have rather played Lulay. Lulay will never be the same. He'll be lucky if he retains sensation in his arm after so many shoulder surgeries. Wonder if B.C. will go with Glenn or go after someone else.Tebowmania Reborn! Who is there to go after this year? Wally has a pretty good track record when it comes to finding QB's. No reason to believe he won't do it again - It could very easily be someone new to the league. Glenn will obviously be there for the foreseeable future in the mean time. So Wally brought in Buck Pierce, Steven Jyles , Joey Elliott and now Beck in the last two years. Wally is massively over rated. Interesting how you want to only keep history to the last two years and ignore all of the QBs that Wally has brought into the league and developed. He brought those guys in to have CFL experience behind Lulay and DeMarco ... whom he also brought into the league.
  4. It is going to be a very interesting finish in the West as SK has 3 games against Calgary and 2 against Edmonton.
  5. A lot of coaches are more comfortable with the Devil they know. Buono has always seemed to be the best at knowing when to move on to new players ... and finding them.
  6. I haven't been overwhelmed with the new import talent that was brought in this year either. I'm hoping it has to do with a new scouting team being setup over the off season and the group building their talent base. If we don't see new imports next year that can make an impact or at least show well as rookies, it would be concerning. I wish the CFL published negotiation lists. It would be interesting to see how much the Bombers has changed since the change in the front office.
  7. For a team that started 5 - 1 and is now 6 - 5, I think you have to expect some negativity in the media. The trouble will come when the media starts hinting at either Walters or O'Shea being in trouble. Once that seed gets planted by the media, it can get traction from the fans. I don't think the media is there though. The message seems to be that they club is in the right direction, there are things to be fixed. However, I'm not sure those things can be fixed this year. This team is already miles ahead of where it was last year, and I don't think the media will be saying anything different.
  8. IF you tackle the guy before he's already returned the ball to midfield the holding never has a chance to happen... When you let a returner get to the point where there's only one guy with a chance of stopping him you've failed in your coverage a long time before. That's absolutely true, but it doesn't mean there wasn't a hold and that it shouldn't have been called. yeah but when the coaches break down the film you think they will say to the team "OK it's not your fault, the refs just missed the holding"? What they're going to do are highlight the guys who didn't contain the returner initially because that's where the biggest mistake on the play came in. I really don't see how the 2 things are related. Of course the coaches will use the film to illustrate where the play broke down and point out the errors, so they can be corrected. That's their job and it's the players job to execute. Just like the refs blew a call that it is their job to make.... But I doubt they will be looking at film to see where they failed. Two seperate things: The Bombers failed to keep their lanes and make a tackle and the refs missed an obvious hold. As part of their jobs, refs will look at tape before and after games. The after part is to review what they did well and what they didn't. They also get graded on their performances. Those grades determine things like who gets to ref playoff games and who gets promotions. Those reviews just aren't made public. Nor should they be. Refs are humans and are making split second decisions There will always be mistakes. But their performance most certainly is reviewed.
  9. The stadium is expandable in the end zones. More capacity was a requirement to host Grey Cups. Surprised they would put them up for this game.
  10. Its a sports update on a sports network...
  11. Game delayed due to lightning
  12. Ottawa can't buy a break
  13. That is some crazy rain they have going on. Wind is blowing the on field advertising all over the field
  14. Liebl works best as the third wheel who occasionally pipes in on the show. He plays the "young gun" role quite well. Not a fan of him as the show's main host. Also not a fan of Rewucki. He doesn't have a great radio voice. Just doesn't come across as polished.
  15. Probably nothing. The Reebok's of the world usually bid to provide the jerseys to professional sports teams and in return get income from the sale of jerseys and other merchandise. That is why the teams will have a minimum number of times they have to wear them.
  16. I don't know. I think if he was using coke when he was here that someone would have known about it and people wouldn't be so shocked by it. The ones shocked by it are the fans, who would be the last to know. You can't tell me no one on any of the CFL teams are doing those drugs just because we don't hear about it or they don't get caught. A CFL dressing room is a small eco system representative of society. A percentage of those people are going to be doing drugs.
  17. Thank you!
  18. It is unfortunate that that criteria has been the mark for a good owner if you look at some of the past CFL owners. Let's hope we can change that going forward.

  20. What does it matter what he says? You've already pretty much said you are only going to believe the things he says that fall in line with your own beliefs. Anything else will be dismissed as rhetoric. I prefer a coach who entertains through the product on the field and not his press conferences. Welcome to the current age of sports...
  21. Duressler47 really hasn't been that bad. Does he get the odd dig in, sure, but what do you really expect. As long as it is done in good taste and not just to stir thing up. It isn't always easy posting on another fan base's forum, especially when its a rivalry like there is between Saskatchewan and Winnipeg. He has been pretty gracious taking the digs tossed back at him, which is really what he should somewhat expect coming here. And you can't really fault the kid for being born after the Riders sucked. If anything, it is good to see the younger / next generation continuing fan interest in the CFL ... whether they are Rider fans or not. A rider fan coming here to post, who isn't here to just troll, just proves he is a fan of the CFL just as much as the Riders.
  22. Where is he making good money? A backup QB was probably making at most 100k last year. Gets the double whammy on taxes and hasn't been employed in football for almost a year now. Certainly not "set for life" type of money. Especially if you are flushing it away on drugs.
  23. While I'm not a fan of how much they paid Burris, the nice part of signing Burris was what they got in return for Glenn. For an expansion team those Canadians are going to be super important in the upcoming years. They are still going to have to pay up to find and develop a qb because of Burris' age but I can understand the gamble they took to want to be competitive with Burris. But at least he was only a FA signing . They gave up nothing for him.
  24. Send me your picks
  25. Cam P and saskbluefan in first place with 27 wins and Jesse W James in second with 26. A log jam of people tied for third with 25 wins. It is going to be a fun fight as we move to the second half of the season.
