Kito played, Aprile played and still is, Mulamba landed as a Ram in the NFL this season and Robertson got some spot duty I thought as well..

not like they were as bad as Addision's pick was for game reps  but all were definitely closer to bad picks then good picks when you consider them to the list that Walters has amassed yup.

I think it's fair to call Kito a bust if we are going to apply that label to Richards (or Waggoner for that matter), and this is coming from a guy who bought his kid a Poblah jersey (and I still have it).

Mulumba is on his 3rd(?) NFL team and since GB hasn't stuck anywhere so hopefully he comes down soon but the value of picking him 3rd overall was too high based on his NFL prospects at the time. Robertson was an Al Davis "fastest runner in the draft" pick,  I don't seem to be able to find any record of him playing for us.

possibly eh? I was thinking either them or possibly Edm.

Then again there is the Rider's who have no depth, are weak on the oline and that is something Jones would do as they can't recruit anything to save their lives

It's good we averted it though as I would think Bond most likely gets NFL interest next year and we may make that LG spot a National position as we have the resources to do so

Hopefully either Spooner or Couture can be that guy and we can use the I spot on another skill position (cough MLB cough).

  3. I just went down the Wikipedia rabbit hole that is the CFL draft and by God, I know it's beating a dead horse but those Joe Mack years... we yielded a grand total of 0 rostered players in the 2012-13 draft. Let's remember some guys:

    Kito Poblah
    Tyson Pencer
    Jade Etienne
    Christo Bilukidi
    Johnny Aprile
Andy Mulumba (we all are still waiting)
    Kris Robertson

All of these players were either 1st-3rd round or supplemental picks. Henoc Muamba was the only player taken in those rounds worth anything for us. Compare that to what Walters has brought in in 3 years:

    Matthias Goossen
    Derek Jones (4th round)
    Sukh Chung
Christophe Normand (I love this guy for the small sample size we have seen)
    Trent Corney
    Michael Couture
    Taylor Loffler
    Faith Ekakitie

The jury is still out on guys like Couture, Ekakitie, Conteh and Spooner but if even one of those guys hits we have to be well over quota here. I think Walters gets a pass on the Richards pick, or at the very least you need to acknowledge his hits when slinging arrows for his misses. This isn't the NFL draft where if a guy is picked in the first 3 rounds he should be an instant starter.

I don't know if anyone else noticed, but both hands to the face calls were drawn by Ettore Lattanzio who is like 5 foot 10.

Probably had a lot to do with it.

I was thinking the same thing, it must be hard for a guy like Bond to get pad level on Lattanzio

In the past few years, I had confidence that the Bombers could win any game but a whole lot of things would have to go right - turnovers mostly. I'm confident now that we can overcome anything, including not winning the turnover battle and not kicking seven or eight field goals.

On that note, it would be nice for Medlock to find his groove again.

Kickoff at 5pm out west here, and I work till 6. Debating if I should watch the first Q at work, then bolt home......stay in blackout mode till 6pm, and then start the PVR from the beginning......or just ditch outta work an hour early and take the chance on wrath of boss......decisions, decisions.....

As for the game itself, I think Medlock might be key tonight. If he is healthy (I'm still not sure) and can get back to normal, he could be the decider. If he's still hurting or just in a funk or whatever....could really hurt us. It'll be a tight game...

I am stunned that no one is advocating the ditch out on work option. It's a long weekend, boss will be too busy nursing the hangover on Tuesday to remember you left early.

They dont give up in the 4th. But a team that rides the momentum and disappears for half the game isnt exactly quit free. Still making it interesting at worst in the clutch is far better then what we were subjected to prior to the mos era.

I'm not so sure it is a quit issue as it is a scheme and execution issue. That falls on guys like Nichols, MOS, Lapo and Hall to fix, which I think they can. The issues that the team has now are flesh wounds compared to what MOS inherited when he got here.

The past few years have included a good number of the most exciting games that I can remember.  Win or lose, if the game is exciting and I'm entertained, then I feel like I'm getting value for my money.  With the exception of the Calgary game this year, I have had the pleasure of watching some pretty exciting and entertaining games, and even that one stinker had it's moments.

Overall, MOS has done a great job of fielding a team that puts on an entertaining show.

God forbid we ever have to subject our eyes to Boltus-level QB play again.

  9. This is a step in the right direction, but far from a solution to the underlying problem - officials missing the obvious calls.

Like JBR said before, that BS "catch" in BC that O'Shea had to challenge just to get it overturned should never happen. If the command center can initiate a review, those are the instances why and the fact that they didn't highlights the larger problem.

The issue with the Glen Johnson is one that I remain hopeful gets rectified in the off season once Ambrosie has a little more time to evaluate. We know he needs to go, but I doubt Ambrosie is going to come in guns-a-blazin' and just start firing people.

Maybe. But if you watch the highlights, he only needed to make one guy miss at the LOS.

True, but nothing about watching Nichols run makes me think he is Michael Vick 2.0. The defense needs to make that play, especially with the clock ticking and Winnipeg with all the momentum. A tackle there gives the Bombers one more play from 15 yards out instead of 1, a much easier task for the defense.

Cautiously optimistic about this one, but this is a trap game for the Bombers if I've ever seen one.

I would say that next week VS Hamilton shapes up as more of a trap game, especially with them starting at 0-6 VS Edmonton this week. Hamilton looks awful in all 3 facets but they will win eventually, probably at home if anywhere and we tend to play up/down to the competition so far.

This is a winnable game VS Ottawa for sure, but it's no gimmie. We need this one, I worry about that Hamilton game and we get Edmonton after that so we need to go on a run here VS the East.

I was re watching parts of the Bomber game against Montreal on YouTube yesterday and I started looking at some highlights of some old games. There was a ton from 2009-2013 Obviously we want to forget about an era where there wasn't much winning but i just wanted to have a thread to reflect on some former players you remember fondly or thought deserved some recognition.. here's a couple that stood out anyways..

Fred Reid: Man was he ever good on some not so good football teams. I watched the video against BC where he set the Bomber rushing record and just tore up that Lions defense.. I believe he even led the league in rushing one year, maybe even two. He was so quick and shifty, if he had a longer playing career he would have been remembered as fondly as Blink

Terrence Edwards: yes everyone remembers him, but like Milt he put up some great numbers with some really bad quarterback play. He wasn't overly fast but I can't recall a reciever that was so slow but could always get open so easily and turn it into a 60 yard touchdown catch.

Jovon johnson: again everyone remembers JJ but I want to give him some recognition another way.. He was a GREAT return man there was one video of him running all the way to the opposite side of the field, just to run all the way back to the other and then he found his gap and took it to the house. He was always a threat to score or at the very least give us good field position.

Steven Jyles: I watched the video against BC where Alex Brink got the start and he couldn't do a single thing on offense ( good one Lapo) and I believe Jyles engineered a 21 point fourth quarter come back and we won in double over time with Beasley returning it for a pick six. Jyles had a great arm, and was so mobile and athletic.. I'm surprised he never put it all together.

Re: Jyles - It always seemed to me that he was a very risk-averse QB who would take a check down on 2nd and long as opposed to risking a pick on a tougher throw. His stats always looked great after the game but you still were left wondering how he piled up all those completions with the amount of 2 and outs we had. I also recall him having a strong, but inaccurate arm on deep throws. Any streak down the sideline and that ball was into row 5.

That makes no sense.  If a prevent is executed it should take so long for the offense to drive downfield that there'd be less scoring.  What you're referring to is poor execution, shitty tackling.

Case in point - MTL trying to tackle Nichols on the second last play. He should have been down at or near the LOS.
