Actually autocrat is exactly the word I meant to use to describe him.

Your grasp of the English language is brutal, then.

    Autocrat synonyms: dictator, tyrant, authoritarian.

Hmmm, where have we heard this language used before?

You think hurling insults makes anyone change their mind? You are the Liberals worst enemy in that regard. It just re-inforces what many feel about the Liberals right now. That they are self indulgent, spoiled, corrupt, and their only defence is to hurl insults and play identity politics. People are tired of it.

    The Liberals don't like me...?

You can keep playing the "a lot of people agree with me" card but that's an embarrassing retort.

For a guy who claims he's putting facts first regarding his views, you sure let your emotions dictate your comments here.

Why? What was good about him before he assumed the role leader of the opposition?

Fair enough, effective or not they deserve chirping just as much as anyone.

For example, failing consistently and not being a model franchise resulted in:

The highest the Oilers have picked is first overall, which they did on three successive occasions between 2010 and 2012 and, most recently, 2015. They selected Taylor Hall (2010), Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (2011), Nail Yakupov (2012), and Connor McDavid (2015). (Taken from the worldwide web.)

    That's a good haul.

They also drafted Nurse (7th overall in 2013), Draisaitl (3rd overall in 2014), and Puljujarvi (4th overall in 2016).

2017 (Yamamoto at 10th overall) was the first time since 2008 (Eberle at 22nd overall) where they didn't have a draft pick in the top 10. They had top 10 picks in 2018 (Bouchard at 10th overall) and 2019 (Broberg at 8th overall), too.

    Model franchise.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh pitched a plan Tuesday to increase corporate taxes based on the size of the gap between worker and CEO pay — but the legislation may run afoul of House of Commons rules on who can bring forward tax measures.

The plan would raise the corporate income tax on a sliding scale, depending on the ratio between the pay of a company's CEO and the median pay of the company's workers. According to an NDP news release, the tax increase would be 0.5 per cent if a CEO makes 50 to 100 times the median income of workers, and would rise to a five per cent increase if a CEO makes a salary 500 times or more higher than the median income of workers.

House of Commons rules forbid private members' bills from making changes to taxation, with an exception for bills that create exemptions from new taxes or new tax increases.

"A private member's bill cannot impose, increase or extend the application of a tax," says the House of Commons guide on practice and procedure.

Singh did not say how he would get around the rule, adding he hasn't drafted the bill yet.

    Quote

Suncor is reporting the release of six million litres of water from a pond on its Fort Hills oilsands mine north of Fort McMurray, Alta., that exceeded guidelines for sediment.

In a note to area First Nations, the Alberta Energy Regulator says the water is from a pond used to settle suspended solids in surface water collected from parts of the site that haven't been mined.

A copy of the note has been shared with CBC News. It says a concentration of 116 milligrams per litre was released — 66 over the approved limit.

Once the sediments settle, the water is emptied into a creek that drains into the Athabasca River.

The regulator, which was told of the problem Sunday, says the level of solids in the water is more than twice the allowed limit.

Suncor says it has stopped outflow from the pond and is studying the cause of the problem and how it affected water quality.

Spokespeople for the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation and Mikisew Cree First Nation say the bands were notified of the release Monday.

Federal Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault said Tuesday afternoon he did not yet have details on the release but that he had asked Environment Canada officials to look into it.

The union representing WestJet pilots says they have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a strike mandate.

The Air Line Pilots Association says the 1,600 WestJet pilots it represents can launch a strike as early as the week leading up to the May long weekend, which typically kicks off the summer travel season for thousands of Canadians whose plans could now be upended.

Bernard Lewall, who heads the union's WestJet contingent, says the workers' issues revolve around job protection, pay and scheduling at the airline and its discount subsidiary Swoop.

He says 95 per cent of pilots voted, with 93 per cent of them in favour of the strike mandate.

WestJet said last month the threat of a strike is a common tactic in negotiations.

Talks continue through the federal conciliation process, which will end April 24 followed by a three-week break, unless the parties agree to extend negotiations.

Who said stop chirping?   It's just not very effective when your team isn't exactly the model franchise for success and only got into the playoffs by the skin of their teeth.

It's trash talk. It's part of the entertainment with sports fandom.

Considering fans have no say in what a franchise does, what does being a model franchise have to do with anything?

Says a lot about anyone who'd actually vote for him or his party come election time. And using public polling in a lame attempt to justify such a decision and bolster it with "other Canadians agree with me" proves how uninformed a lot of people in this country are right now.

BUFFALO, N.Y.  A study led by University at Buffalo researchers has confirmed that contrary to claims by anti-vaccine proponents, COVID-19 vaccines pose only trivial risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE), or blood clots. In addition, the study found that becoming infected with COVID-19 poses a significant risk of blood clots.

The study was launched in order to investigate whether or not receiving a COVID-19 vaccine put one at higher risk for developing VTE, a claim that had circulated widely on social media and in mainstream media.

The study period ran from Jan. 1, 2020 (just prior to the detection in the U.S. of COVID-19) until March 6, 2022, and was based on data from veterans aged 45 years and older from the Department of Veterans Affairs National Surveillance Tool. The data included 855,686 people who had received at least one dose of a SARS-CoV-2 vaccine and an unvaccinated control group of 321,676 people

The study found that vaccinated individuals had a VTE rate of 1.3755 per 1,000 people, which is 0.1% over the baseline VTE rate of 1.3741 per 1,000 in unvaccinated people.

“Given the fact that the rate of VTE with COVID-19 is several orders of magnitude greater than the trivial risk from vaccination, our study reinforces the safety and importance of staying current with COVID 19 vaccinations.”

A Volga-Dnepr Airlines Antonov An-124 has been sitting on the tarmac at Toronto Pearson International Airport for over a year. The cargo aircraft delivered COVID-19 test kits from China and landed in Canada on February 27, 2022. However, Canada’s government closed its airspace to Russian-owned, chartered or operated aircraft on that same day in response to Russia invading Ukraine three days earlier. After racking over $300,000 in parking fees, the Antonov will finally leave Toronto Pearson soon but will be transferred to Ukraine.

The Canadian government seized the Volga-Dnepr Antonov An-124 in early April despite the freighter being unable to leave the country since February 2022. The confiscation was part of an additional round of sanctions against Volga-Dnepr Airlines. In August 2022, the Russian cargo airline’s founder sold the company to management to avoid governments sanctioning the airline.
