  3. This is the key. Nobody on this board is the target demo because they've already got us for life (bastards...) But how do you get more of the passive fans on board? The guys who kinda watch CFL but mostly watch NFL...? Try some weird **** and see how it goes.

  9. the idea would be higher scoring, more dynamic offensive based games at a faster pace. No actual proof, other than how it’s worked for mlb, and that what the league has done over the past two-three decades has only eroded the success and fan base league wide. I’m trying to look at it from a none hard core fan perspective and wondering if the potential is there.

  14. What's the evidence that these changes will attract new fans? Younger fans?
  15. There’s about the same chance of a MLB franchise being awarded to Steinbach. Government won’t support building MLS stadium and is pinching corners on building hospitals. Who is coming up with $2 billion to build a MLB park and about the same for a franchise?

  18. BUF/VGK on to round 2. TPA/MTL heading to game 7.
  19. Can't see MLB affecting gate other than in toronto and even then its a big whip as ..well its toronto And again its no real different with the seasons coinciding anyway and with only one city having a team who cares really And like said any change can always go back to what it was if its a major flop or causes major backlash...league is trying to find and be accessible to newer fans and demographics so what is old and accustomed to by lifelong fans is irrelevant to anyone new...or newish. If old school fans sqwuak and whine and revolt..screw em...obviously not that big of fans then. Times are a changing and you either change with it..or try to evolve to it in some regard or you whither away and die
  20. How long bad changes will remain would depend on the ego of the commissioner
  21. The night mare, regarding the early start changes for gm's, are going to be the undoing of some of the changes..The cfl/nfl draft days not jiving are a big problem and can see teams rebelling when draft pics are left in limbo ....As was mentioned, going up against nhl/mlb franchises are not going to give us the gate success we're hoping for or the type of notoriety we need....I see these changes being reviewed very quickly by the league after their inception......
  22. agree 100%. the league needs to be ready to adjust fast out of these changes and pivot. I very much worry that they won’t, but if they do maybe they can make some thing positive out of all this.
  23. What I keep coming back to is "they try them out and see how it goes... But I can also see a day where it doesn't work, and Johnson is still fighting for him, even though it's clearly not working (or made it worse), then they toss him, hire someone else, and go back to how it was." Nothing here is irreparable... They can always go back to be the old ways down the road.
  24. Yeah that sucks. Good thing we still have Jenkins and Dixon from last year. And in general the competition looks pretty good along the d line. Unrelated. It looks like we have all of our draft picks signed outside of Nuer (minicamp May 8-10) and Cline.
  25. wr/kr jayden harrison is a big upside kr prospect. Oj arnold is a good quick one cut back. Sucks jaworski retired
  26. I was thinking about how mlb had rocketed up the viewer rankings and dropped their main demographic by about 15 years with the changes in recent years. Do any of the new CFL changes have that kind of chance? I’m not a fan of most of the changes. Couple good ones here and there. I was only in favor of maybe half of the mlb changes but they have worked out better than any one would’ve believed. Maybe if they accomplished the goal and have less fgs more going for it on 3rd down and scoring more tds, it could have the same kind of impact. I really struggle to see most of these changes panning out. But it would be great to be wrong and see the cfl do a fraction of the job mlb has done.
  27. On the other hand apparently there’s a push to get MLB in to Vancouver.
  28. Wiebe is going to be a scary one for them.
  29. Yesterday
  30. Picton retiring for the Riders. Thats Nield, Picton and Ajou gone from their national receiving group.
  31. Signed him in February. Guess he had second thoughts about playing up here.
  32. Rogers seems to hate the CFL (based on the reporting that I've seen on SportsNet in the past), so I would question if they would ever be interested in the broadcast rights anyway. TSN is really the only game in town unless either CBC decides to take up sports broadcasting again or one of the streaming platforms comes knocking because they want to get into it like Prime did with the NHL.
  33. Just got my Banjo Bowl tickets. I'm having toe surgery on July 8th. No weight bearing for 6 weeks so this is cutting it close. If I can't go then I'll let you guys know & I'll sell my 2 seats at face value here. Who was JJ Taylor?
  34. If the Whitecaps leave Vancouver that'll help attendance for the Lions.
  35. Point is the earlier you move the season up the more you're competing with the Jays when people are most likely to be engaged at scale....before they are out of the race and hope is eternal (April-June), or when they are in the playoffs if they are (October). Blue Jays Baseball is the most hyped sports property in this country. The name of the game is GROWTH because 7 of 9 franchises are routinely unprofitable. How does the CFL engage media partners to get close to that level of hype, and not just be scraps? The other issue with the Jays is the engagement of Rogers. Who exactly do we think is interested in producing and broadcasting CFL games? How does the CFL get more revenue for their product? There's two companies that have the infrastructure and potential willingness, Rogers and Bell. This time of year Rogers is flooded with Jays, NHL playoffs and NBA playoffs. Bell only has some NBA. So how could Rogers possibly engage on broadcasting and hyping CFL if it started in 2-3 weeks? Is the CFL looking to be random timeslot filler? There's also a plausible scenario where the Argos could be playing on the same day as the other 3 teams both spring and fall. And TFC too. I don't see how this plan makes them less of an afterthought, and the CFL less of an afterthought in the GTA. League should be working to have as many games between July-end of September as possible. Having the start of the season clashing so much with every other sport is not ideal, even disregarding potential for less than desirable weather in May-June when a slightly cool temp, rain and wind together can be bone chilling far worse than Sept-November.
  36. Our entire season goes up against MLB, and outside of Toronto this isn't a particularly big threat to CFL ratings. NHL playoffs are though, both TV and the gate. I like an earlier start to the season, but only if it were to result in an October Grey Cup. This won't. I don't really care about the playoff format one way or the other, but I have always thought the East/West seperate playoffs until the final was dumb as some weak teams got in while better teams (mostly in the West) were not in. I like that this could allow for a Saskatchewan/Winnipeg Grey Cup. Im not sure the league would love that tho.
