Blue Bombers -- 2025/26 Offseason -- Discussion Thread
Walters & Osh should have both been let go when their contracts were up at the end of last season. They got a reprieve from Miller. Probably told to smarten up & actually do their jobs. Walters certainly took that to heart. Now, we'll see if Osh can get back to where he was in 2019.

Blue Bombers -- 2025/26 Offseason -- Discussion Thread
To me it looked like Walters got passive and did not challenge O'Shea on his player utilization, likely because O'Shea had accumulated an aura of infallibility, or maybe Walters just trusted him and gave him carte blanche. In his recent presser, Walters had a completely different tone to his statements than in previous pressers, and maybe he had a fireside chat with Miller. Its difficult to understand Walters' thinking in not going all-out for a Grey Cup game at home. Many fans and players will not have a second chance to see their team win The Game at home. It would have been legendary.

Again, he has to actually play. If he's third string on a UFL team then who cares?

This is his exact plan. He was told by the Green Bay HC that the biggest knock against him was that he never played the 4-down game. He's obviously going to play in the UFL this year and hope that parlays him into another NFL tryout.

Then he competes against this year's crops of draft picks or free agents that scouts are excited about. It won't get any easier. Plus, he has to earn a spot on Birmingham's team. If he's third on the roster, that'll be of little help.

Elgersma should play in the UFL this spring and see if the NFL comes sniffing around. UFL training camps start up next week so we will know soon enough if he plans on going that route.

I think the Ol still performed as we had Brady reach 1,100 yards rushing despite Hogan ignoring his rushing abilities at times. The upgrades we have are going to help. On D, it was the DL that was such an overall weakness. How it was allowed to deteriorate is something I'd like to know. You win championships with a dominant line. Not sure if I'm happy about playing a 3 man front. We'll see.

Blue Bombers -- 2025/26 Offseason -- Discussion Thread
Our biggest problem last year IMO was that we lost both lines of scrimmage. And it was especially bad on offense because we had virtually zero game breaking receivers. How that came to be can be debated. But, I am glad they spent on both lines this off-season.

"He needs to go somewhere he'll get reps...which is NFL pre season or UFL". Oh yeah, like those teams just can't wait for him to show up. The big time Canuck to solve their qb problems. "But he's really wasting his time now because the path from CFL to NFL is to play up here for 2-3 years, take the reins & dominate, then go NFL". When was the last time that happened? Thirty years ago with Doug Flutie & Jeff Garcia? That's no plan.

I think that is a big part of it. I also think we kept sitting on money for flexibility. Glad that is over and we are back to competing in free agency.

The best thing Elgersma could do right now, as it looks like things have dried up down south, is to have a serious talk with Rourke....Nathan could set him straight about the situation he finds himself in at present.....Best advice ....sign with Winnipeg.....get your feet wet in the CFL for a couple of years, then make your way professionally ...I don't know who is currently giving the guy advice BUT it really doesn't sound or realistic.....The kid has got to make a decision soon before the clock runs out on his career With Zack hinting today on third down that this could be his last season AND the possibility that we'll be looking for his replacement .....might motivate Elgersma to start thinking BOMBERS

Honestly I think the root cause was hanging onto expensive guys too long and not moving on sooner. Helps balance how your cap is allocated and increase the overall competition. Just my opinion anyway.

Blue Bombers -- 2025/26 Offseason -- Discussion Thread
I'm not talking about what players should lose their jobs, I'm talking about what scouting personale should lose their jobs by scouting inferior players or is it you can't hold them accountable because of things out of their control? I'm a bit confused here in what/who is accoutable for our depth inferiority. Combination of a whole slew of things?

Blue Bombers -- 2025/26 Offseason -- Discussion Thread
thats where u have to see past the present and realize/decide when to walk away from certain vets and starters and have already put time and into the successor's and not look backwards and pay mightily for declining older talent who command a bigger pay cheque....we failed in that regard in a huge way....we also failed in our rigidity in how we used ratio and missed out on a lot of ralent we could have went after, rather than just clinging to pieces that were on the wrong side of their best before date, but still commanded bigger bucks the inferior player should regardless of their tenure here....or their nationality...or if it's one of Osh's love affairs...and if it's a saw off....the one who is younger and may have more upside within them...not the one who only has downside not necessarily....our draft strategy was nit the best approach either.

Okay fair statement so quality depth is out of the question cuz we need to eat our cap to get quality starters. Yes?

Blue Bombers -- 2025/26 Offseason -- Discussion Thread
So who should lose their job? Or is it their hands are tied, they have too many challenges attracting available players to play here, nothing they can do? Or what is the main struggle here?

Blue Bombers -- 2025/26 Offseason -- Discussion Thread
Also big struggle with US scouting. Let Hardrick walk and replace him with a C player. Let Lawler walk and replace him with Wheatfall. Too many of our replacements haven’t been good players let alone impactful ones.

Blue Bombers -- 2025/26 Offseason -- Discussion Thread
Well the depth also took a hit because as your vets and starters eat up more of your cap you don't have the same depth. 2019, 2021 those teams were deep as hell.

Blue Bombers -- 2025/26 Offseason -- Discussion Thread
Walters and Osh got too hung up on these draft guys who were ST demons in college, but didn't project to anything more than that, and didnt see past that and were too reliant on the belief that our starters were all top grade like in 2019....and didnt see where we may need coverage. Any player basically can play ST's but not every player can contribute with reps on offence or defence....so draft the best projected player(s)overall who can push a starter, and actually succeed one or take reps....not the other way around Case in point as just one example..Hallet can kill it on ST's and has made huge plays....but he kills us on defence and seeing him always in chase as guys rape him on the field is just sickening...I can not recall a single defensive impact play he has made...but recall a ton of bad ones...The fact we would put him in as the 7th...8th db in some our schemes when we didnt need to for ratio, and had better guys on the sidelines was just baffling...like why?

What I also read ad nasuem here from a few select posters on this forum is our depth at most positions is not good enough to replace/sub-out certain starters (e.g., Nose tackle, QB1 etc.). 'It's the best we got and stop suggesting the back-ups to come in cuz they aren't worthy and if you suggest bringing in a back-up you don't know football'. Okay is it asking too much that we build a team with depth we are comfortable in bringing in when needed outside of injury to the starter or is that just a naive pipe dream?

It's hard to even know if money is a factor for Elgersma. Really if he signs here he'll be standing on the sideline, getting a few reps in practice (teams are prepping to win games, not develop rookies in practice) maybe running short yardage although they've brought in guys that seem to be better prospects for that. If his goal is to make the NFL more than anything else he needs to go somewhere he will get reps....which is NFL preseason or UFL. But he's really wasting time now because the path from CFL to NFL is to play up here for 2-3 years, take the reins and dominate, then go NFL. The longer he waits by the time he gets up here he's basically cooked for NFL opportunities. And if he signs after training camp up here there's really no point in terms of his development. That's when he's going to get the most reps and get settled.- Upcoming Movies
