The Winnipeg Blue Bombers returned to practice a picture of dysfunction Monday.

A new starting quarterback — the third one already this season — and new offensive consultant were easy to spot.

Who’s making the decisions is another story.

First, the decision to make Max Hall the starting quarterback for Friday’s game against Hamilton, demoting Justin Goltz to No. 3 after just two starts.

“I don’t know who made the call,” a visibly shaken Goltz said. “You ask around and nobody can give you a straight answer.

“I definitely feel betrayed at this point.”

Veteran Buck Pierce, now No. 2 on the depth chart, was shaking his head, too.

“I have no idea who’s making any kind of calls anymore,” Pierce said. “I stopped trying to figure it out. I’ve been in this league a long time ... and it’s a first.”

Not even Hall could say who made him the starter.

Only when head coach Tim Burke spoke did the answer come. And it’s not the one you’d expect.

Burke washed his hands of the decision, saying he left it up to the offensive coaches, led by co-ordinator Gary Crowton.

“I’m going to leave it up to them,” Burke said. “I stated my opinion, but I’m not going to handcuff them. That’s not my job.

“My expertise is on defence.”

As for the hiring of longtime CFL coach Marcel Bellefeuille as a consultant for the offence, Burke said that wasn’t just his call, either.

New CEO Wade Miller was involved. In fact, Bellefeuille said it was Miller who called him on the weekend.

Burke said he, Miller, and assistant GM Kyle Walters are making the football decisions. Well, at least the ones not involving the quarterbacks.

“I’m the head coach and I’m doing my job to the best of my ability,” Burke said. “Wade’s not dictating anything. So far it’s been us three making the decisions.”

As for his two confused quarterbacks, Burke said they’re understandably upset but will get over it.

Both Goltz and Pierce say the pressure to win is causing knee-jerk reactions.

“There’s a lot of pressure with a lot of people’s jobs,” Goltz said.

“Everybody’s trying to search for a fast fix. And I don’t think one person’s going to come in and turn around our offence. There’s a lot of pieces that need to be fixed.”

oh you guys. Just relax already. My goodness. You guys are acting like Crowton killed your dog and Burke punched your grandmas. Give things a few days to work themselves out. We've got a really crappy team coming to town on Friday, let's give our team a chance to get their **** together and figure things out. All of this whining isn't helping or going to change anything by Friday. I'd hate to have you guys working in my company - if the mail was five minutes late and the toner ran out in the printer you'd all be crying in your hankies and sobbing that the world was coming to an end.

Qft this thread is nearly as whiney as riderfans after losing a game

you know what? let's just go ahead and fire Burke right now too. He's proven consistently that he has no clue what it takes to be an effective head coach in this league. Those statements are just completely unacceptable.

yeah it's hard to argue that right now.  Burke's no bullshit responses may have got him in real hot water this time.  He isn't even pretending that he has any say or control of this team right now. It will be an interesting coaches show tonight that's for sure.

Wow...I haven't seen this type of confusion and mismanagement since the Ftroop days in Calgary.   Ask iso_55, those were the darkest days in Stampeders history.

Someone needs to take control and "control the message"    .  Or deal with it internally.       But we can't have players quoted in the paper saying that ****.  Even if they believe, they shouldn't be saying it to the media.

I'm telling ya, let's fire Burke now and let Bellefool run the ship for the last couple months just to complete the mess they've put themselves into. Season is a write off already because Burke and Crowton know they're dead men walking, the players are now confused by the ******** moves being made, they'll give up in short order if they haven't already. Season is already flushed down the crapper might as well clear out all of the people who will be gone right now and make sure we hire better people this offseason.

hey no over reactions here, there is no chance in hell that Burke is kept around for next season... at least there shouldn't be, let's just finish the complete blow up that's already started.

or, we can put our heads down, go get some wins, make the play-offs and let this team finally try to gel.  Yeah there are some bad things happening right now.  The good news is there are three teams out there even worse than us, if that is even possible.

I would have agreed there were worse teams before all this **** hit the fan... but now it appears that no one has a bloody clue what they're doing and the players will soon start to show that on the field.

The best case scenario right now is to burn this thing to the ground.  I'm not interested in picking up a few fluky wins, getting into the playoffs by default and then get pummelled by an actual playoff team.  Burn it down.  Fire them all.  Start with Burke.

well the thing is that if the bombers made the playoffs the first match would be one of hamilton or montreal or maybe even edmonton, all those other bad teams. But the way things have gone in the last week the Bombers threw in the towel on the season prematurely.

By all means let's wait 'til at least Friday and soon thereafter.

We wanted action, we're getting action.

We wanted out O-line looked at - check

We wanted to see what our QBs could do - check

More offence - work in progress

Behind the scenes things are rapidly occurring and they're certainly not being done to try and miss the playoffs.

I mean who the hell cares who called whom and which coach tagged Hall to start.

If these guys can get us on the same page and get some wins, I wouldn't care if they brought Dinwiddie back. (ok, maybe that's too far)

Call it what you want but if we come out further ahead at the end of this, then we all got what we wanted in the 1st place. (ok maybe not 1st place)
